Member topic: What do you do on weekends?
As I was reading this chapter, the song Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga sprang to mind. And the way you've shown that, for Arnav, all those feelings still hold true a decade later. The need to have her with him, the desire to want to do special things for her just as strong today. One of the most touching parts was his wanting to jump up to give her a standing ovation. There was so much pride in his wife, and for all that she has achieved, in that moment. A pride that is shared equally by his wife in his achievements.
Arnav reminiscing while sitting on the steps was so wistfully poignant. Minutes hanging heavy as he waited for Khushi even while the months had sped by. Perceptions changed, acceptances made, questions raised. "Though he knew it was his sister's doing. It had to be... right?". But some questions are not so easily resolved. Maybe he will take a leaf out his wife's book or maybe he will be unable to ... time will tell.
The utsukta with which he waited for Khushi was just so sweet. And the way the slightest touch between them ignites a conflagration is just phew. The "chudails" don't stand a chance! Their baal is safe from being nochaoed... I see I may have to revise my strategy to continue looking only and stop devising ways of attempting to touch 😆
I love how they're doing everything they can to welcome their baby. Making it the baby's home even before it takes it's first steps inside. You had tears streaming down my face when Khushi said she wanted Pari's room to be used for her sibling. Such a beautiful way of showing a moving on without a moving away. "with their second child it would be filled with life, laughter and love. In memory of their little angel, Pari."
Arnav recreating their engagement at "The Bean" was just heart meltingly adorable. The way in which she trusts him with the blindfold and the way he constantly reassures her with his touch and words was so tender. I like how it was neatly tucked away for future use ...
Reading about the it was like standing there watching it all happen. Being a part of the crowd clapping and cheering. Their love compels you to believe in love being for infinity and beyond.
That message from Roshni Jigs ... I'm right there smiling, crying, screaming with you my love. You've swept me through all their ups and downs so comprehensively, that I feel totally invested in their happiness. I can't wait to see who awaits them in Delhi.
Jigs, I marvel at your ingenuity and solicitude in crafting this update. What a beautiful concluding part this is! We humans find beauty in something done well. Yet, this is not the only reason that I find your writing beautiful. Furthermore, I know that is not just the technique, the simplicity, or the dramatic deep insight that has gone into this update. For me what has made it beautiful can be summoned in one word: heartfelt. Any of the above things (and plenty of others) can be beautiful if the writing meets this criterion. All the right words are in the right place to let us see that this update has gone straight to our hearts and the words aren't merely sentences on the screen. You massage these words to make them better and better and they resonate this "heartfelt" feeling. Everything else can be taught, but not this. Thus, your heartfelt writing feels incredible to read as we are enamoured to the feelings that the aesthetic and sensual aspects of the language create in us.
All its aspects reminded me of the first four verses of a poem that is very special to me:
To see a World in a Grain of Sand*
How different is his waiting for her to arrive on their 10th anniversary to her waiting for him in their 8th? He had forgotten that anniversary, and she has forgotten this one. His waiting is filled with anticipation, urgency, hope, faith and excitement, while hers was filled with sadness, sorrow, heartache and longing just to see him. He is wishing for their forever to start as soon as possible, she just wished for a day with him. Is his promise to her on that day about to be made true today? These seconds are moving too slowly for him. She is all it takes for him to come alive, his world is here; this moment of waiting has passed. Why is time moving so quickly now that she has arrived?
And a Heaven in a Wild Flower
Khushi, thank you for being late! How else would we know what have they felt and gone through during these months? We see the bonding between them and the Guptas, the pride of the elders in their children's achievements. Most of all we are made aware of the pride that Khushi and Arnav take in each other's works and their willingness for any chance to show and share it with others. We know about the Mehras and their kids' visit and the joy it brought both Arnav and Khushi. I felt that I wanted to try the swing set with both Sid and Bella (sorry the child in me hasn't grown up yet). We feel their exasperation at the renovations, how they solved their problems, and the relief that they finished the renovation. That restlessness at the new endearments that the Guptas have been calling him is leading him towards an area of his life that he feels best left alone. From his thoughts I realise that he has not talked with Anjali about their father, but this new feeling is not going to be kept hidden for long. He will be the one to decide the time and place to deal with it. These wild flowers have changed his perceptions and beliefs. Yet now is not the time to deal with it. If only she can change as soon as possible and then he will be able to show what surprise he has prepared for her...
Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand
And there she is, his world, ready and trusting him to see what will happen. Oh, that care and concern for her during their drive, their matching heartbeats, the tenderness in him to alleviate her fears. Their clasped hands as he helps her out of the car, her emotions from recognising the place, that stupendous memory of his proposal, his new promise and ring, were so exquisitely described, that I thought I was there looking at them rather than reading. What better way to forget bad memories, than making new ones, unforgettable memories of their love and commitment. How beautiful that they both were thinking that the only unchanged thing was the love they had for one another, both calling it infinite. As they walked together around the park, hand in hand they were holding infinity.
And Eternity in an hour
I think it took only one hour from Arnav finding Khushi in front of Pari's room to her receiving Roshni's text (I'd like to think so). Another new memory made at the front of that door. Gone is the anguish to be filled by the expectation of seeing their child in their daughter's room. This time there are tears of happiness in their eyes, as they continue their journey to become parents, as well as believing the happiness that Pari would feel that her room is not empty any more. Laughter, music and sounds of joy are waiting to be heard inside those walls. I believe that there is a certain eternity in families. Children pick up their parents traditions, traits and beliefs to make them theirs. They adapt and strengthen them further and teach them to their own children and this is carried forward through each generation. Roshni's text has brought their child closer to them now. Today as they celebrate their commitment to each other and exult in their infinite love, eternity has come knocking as well. What an unforgettable day this turned out to be!
