Chapter 50
With a heavy heart ragav walks across the parking lot, towards his apartment building. Sighing deeply, he tells himself, "you are all alone now... And rightly so." "Did you really believe that after everything you did, Kalpi would want to be with you... Damn I screwed things up," he berates himself. Filled with regret, he whispers, "I wish I could redo everything... I wish..." He stops and stares at pakhi and Kamla maa as they walk out of the building. His gaze rests on Kamla maa. Her gaze filled with hatred. Filled with sadness, he thinks, "she has come to pick Kalpi." He looks behind them, searching for the woman he loves... Aching to see her one last time... Knowing he will never see her again.
Kamla stops in front of ragav, glaring at him with hate filled eyes. Thinking, "with your lies you have convinced my Kalpi that you are innocent. I am not as foolish as her. Her love for you is not allowing her to see your truth... But I see it... I know better... I still remember the promise you made to me years ago... I still remember the pain my baby went through when she found out you were just using her to get to me... Ha! So you think you have won... That you are successful in duping my daughter once again... Like hell!"
Furious, she lashes out, "if you think you have won... You are mistaken. My Kalpi is only staying back so that she can claim part of your property when she divorce you... So don't you think that she has believed your lies."
Unable to respond, ragav gives her a comical look as he takes in her words... Unfortunately he reacts reflexively, "am sure you have heard of a prenup. Stupid I am not." Hearing the words allowed, he is immediately filled with regret. Seeing Kamla maa's expression change from outrage to loathe to belief... He curses himself for making things worse. "Damn it, why can't I just shut up," he scolds himself. Kamla maa storms away, muttering, "I knew it. I knew it."
Pakhi stares at ragav, thinking, "omg he believes Kamla maa." "Sir," she says hesitantly, waits for his attention then continues, "sir please don't take Kamla maa seriously. She..." Giving her a reassuring smile, he says, "relax. I know my Kalpi." Giddy with happiness, he continues, "look... I got to go." Reading excitement, happiness, impatience in his eyes, Pakhi nods, saying, "of course."
Not waiting for an answer, ragav rushes into the building, grinning like a fool as he keeps pressing the lift call button impatiently. His heart racing as he thinks, "she decided to stay... She is not leaving me..."
Filled with so many emotions and lots of adrenaline as he anxiously waits for the elevator, ragav thinks, "this is taking too long. I am taking the stairs," and races towards the stairwell and up the stairs.
Kalpi with nervous excitement sits on the sofa, a facade of calmness surrounding her. Her heart had never thumped this fast before. "I think I am going to die of a heart attack if I have to wait any longer... He loves me... Why is he not here yet?" She mutters to herself. Hearing keys jingle at the door, her hand automatically goes to the left side of her chest, "be still my beating heart... Be still," she tells herself as she stands up.
Ragav rushes into the apartment, stops in the middle of the room when his gaze falls on Kalpi, who is standing by the sofa in nervous excitement. his eyes light up as he takes her in, dropping his gaze, he says huskily, chocking on emotions "you know that I am never going to let you go... That..." Smiling brightly, tears eyed, Kalpi rushes towards him, hugging him tight, asking, "promise?" Ragav stops midsentence, closes eyes as his arms go automatically around her shoulders... hugging her back as he savours the moment, whispering, "promise."
Breaking away from the hug, Kalpi begins unbuttoning ragav's shirt with an urgency Ragav had never seen. Amused and confused at the same time, Ragav tries to hold her hands to stop her, asking, "what are you doing?" "Ssshhh," Kalpi snaps, slapping his hands away.
His shirt open, Kalpi stares at the bullet wound that just missed his heart you several inches. With trembling fingers she caress his wound slowly. Looks up at him teary eyed and whispers, "I never knew... I never knew." Her gaze back at the wound, she leans forward, softly grazing her lips over it as she kisses it lightly.
Ragav stands still, fighting for control over his emotions as Kalpi tried to give him comfort. Looking into vulnerable eyes, eyes filled with longing, need, mirroring the same emotions she felt, she caresses his cheek, saying softly, "it must have hurt... I am glad you came back... I nearly lost you..."
His voice hoarse with raw emotion, Ragav says, "Kalpi..." Placing a finger on his lips, silencing him as she says, "ssshhh... ", filled with sadness, adding regretfully! "I wasn't there when..." Ragav stops her by placing his finger on her lips and says, "you are here now." Hugging him tight, Kalpi repeats, "I am here now." Ragav hugs her tight, whispering, "I love you. I love you very much."
Leaning slightly away from him, her eyes sparkling with happiness, she looks at him, her gaze filled with love. Smiling, she leans towards him, kissing him lightly on his lips, then says softly, "I love you too."
Taking a step Away from him, clearing her voice, Kalpi says with a smile, "go freshen up while I reheat dinner." Then turns to head towards the kitchen. Ragav grabs her hand, stopping her and pulls her back into his arms. Caressing the side of her face, he says emotionally, "I had lost you..." Chocking with emotion, he stops, his memories racing to the day he was informed she had died. His racing as if it was yesterday, the pain, the emptiness, the fear, crippling him. Tears fall as he stares into eyes filled with love, overwhelmed for he never thought that he would ever see love for him in her eyes... he tries to continue, "I never thought..." Stops, takes a deep breath, then continues, "Oh Kalpi when I saw the car run over you... I died a thousand deaths... When I thought you dead... I prayed for death a thousand times. You are the heartbeat to my heart... Without you, I don't exist."
Teary eyes, Kalpi says, "I am so sorry for playing a part in the deception. I..." Shaking his head, Ragav interrupts, "please love, don't apologise. You didn't do anything I didn't deserve... But know this Kalpi... Revenge was the furtherest thing from my mind... I never... Our personal equation was never part of the revenge." Kalpi gives him a reassuring smile and says, "I know... I wish I knew it then... I would never have left you."
