"What is it...plz be fast. I stopped hitting u only because my wife said so otherwise I would have certainly beaten u black and blue." An angry Randhir said.
"Calm down, child. I am not as demonous as u think I am. There was a reason I suggested an abortion, knowing that it is illegal." Randhir raised his eyebrows in curiosity as the doc continued. "As u know, this area is not such a good area. Owning a clinic in this area brings u all sorts of patients-educated, uneducated, illiterate. They would get to know the gender of the baby sumhow and most of the patients, when the learnt that they were gonna give birth to a girl child, requested an abortion. When I refused, they threatened. Once I nearly lost my life due to this. When in rome, do as rome does' , I thought. Slowly, over the years, this became routine.
Today, when u came in with ur wife, I recogonized u. U and ur wife are nearly always in the papers. And why not? Achieving so much at this young age is not easy. For a moment, I was startled. I thought, why have such educated people come to this shabby clinic?? But then I thought, ofcourse-u must have also come for an abortion. My heart sank. But when I told u the news, that ur wife has a girl child, I could see the happiness in ur face. I did not want to suggest abortion. But old habits die hard. The words escaped my mouth before I could stop them. But child, I am really happy that u did not turn out to be the way I had thought. In the half hour I have spent with you, I have got to know u. I could see the happiness for ur child, ur concern for ur wife, all in ur eyes. I can say only one thing to u, child, that u will be a great father, and a very good human being. My blessings are with you".
Randhir was stunned at this. He had not expected the doctor to turn out like this at all! He thanked the doctor and took his blessings. Both of them entered the clinic once more.
Once inside, the sight that Randhir saw made him fall in love with Sanyu once again. He saw Sanyu sitting up on the examining bed, repairing the remote of the AC. There was a nurse beside her, looking at her in awe as she put the cover back onto the remote and successfully switched on the AC. She looked up at Randhir and smiled. He smiled back and went to the bed, lifting her up and gently putting her back down on her feet. "Where were you, Randhir? See! Meet her. She is the nurse here. Her name is priyanka. She was trying to put on the ac for the doc but was near tears when it stopped working! Maine thik kar di. See! "She said and held up the remote for him to see. He just smiled at her, and told her to get her bag. He thanked the doc, grasped sanyukta's hand and left the clinic.
