Chapter 46
Kalpi hesitantly descends the stairs, her life had never been filled with so much uncertainty... She was confused... She didn't know what to think.
Placing the food on the dining table, Ragav looks up towards the staircase. Seeing Kalpi dressed in his shirt, he thinks possesively, "Mine... I will never let you leave me." Feeling conscious as she reads his heated gaze, Kalpi looks down to her naked limbs, looks at him and says shyly, "your pants are too big." Nodding, Ragav replies, "come. You must be hungry. I know I am," and turns, his back to her as he sits down for his meal.
Surprised by his consideration... His concern... Her heart cries out... "Why did you try to kill me? Did you try to kill me? Are you still going to kill me?" Questions she wanted to scream aloud... The first two hounding her for several months... The last... A new one that arose when he brought her here. Instead she says, "yes, I am famished."
Watching her seated by his side, having her meal, Ragav's memories race towards another time, where the atmosphere would have been filled with laughter instead of dead silence. Lifting his glass of water, his hand trembles slightly, causing him to put down the glass immediately. His body reminding him that he has not fully recovered.
Noticing the slight tremor, Kalpi frowns with concern. Placing her fork and knife on her plate, she looks up at Ragav, asking, "what's wrong?" Her hand automatically stretches out to his. Ragav immediately moves his hand, refusing to have any contact, he grabs his fork and knife and takes a bite of his meal to avoid answering her question.
Kalpi frowns further, seeing this, she looks at her hand resting on the table, where seconds ago his arm rested. She rapidly blinks away the tears as his rejection pierces her heart. Ragav's heart snarls out, "like you don't know! Like you care!"
Watching her clear the table, Ragav asks, "I saw scars? Accident?" Kalpi freezes, nods, her heart cries out, "a gift from you... For loving you."reading the pain in her eyes, he frowns, asking, "does it still hurt?" Giving a weak smile, Kalpi replies teasingly, "everytime I look." Seeing his perplexed expression, Kalpi elaborates, "they are ugly." Watching his expressions change... Slight softening at first... Then a harshness takes over... She anxiously waits for his response. Cursing herself for allowing him to see her vulnerability.
His gaze softening fractionally, Ragav's heart calls out in response, "I think it is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen... A badge, telling me that when your soul had to choose between life and death... Me and death... You chose me. Then why did you leave me? Why did you let me believe that you died? Why did you..." Hardening his heart, he looks at her harshly and says, "you are right. It is ugly."
Ragav gets up and heads for his study, needing space. In his race to have some distance from her, he does not see the shattered look on kalpi's face... The silent tears that fall from her eyes as she watches him walk away... Confirming her worst fears... That he would find her ugly... No longer desirable... He would replace her with another. Wiping her tears, she thinks, "I am glad I left when I did... I would never have been able to handle this rejection then."
Hours later, ready to call it a night, Ragav slowly climbs the stairs, heading for his room. Expecting to see Kalpi fast asleep, one of the reasons why he had stayed shut in the study for so long, he stares at the empty bed... Filled with dread, he panics, thinking, "she has left me." He runs down the stairs towards the main door. Seeing it locked from inside he frowns, confused.
Ragav strides angrily towards the guest room. Angry with her choice to sleep in the guest room, seeing it as her defiance. Angry with himself for allowing his fears to rule him. He wakes her up roughly, by shaking her shoulder and says in a booming voice, "why are you asleep here?"
Startled, Kalpi wakes up disoriented, stares at a glowering Ragav and asks sleepily, "what happened?" Gritting his teeth, Ragav repeats, "why are you sleeping here? I thought I made it very clear why I have brought you here." Kalpi frowns, says, "I didn't think you meant..." Ragav interrupts furiously, "I meant every word." Sitting up, she whispers, "but... But... I am ugly." Too angry to care, Ragav says coldly, "it would hardly matter in the dark... All I need is a warm body... For now you will suffice." Ragav lifts her into his arms and heads towards his room.
Phew finally completed... guys what's your verdict...
