Part 9

The next day Madhu was too busy to even sit. She was very happy today. Usually also this day of the year she would be too happy but this time knowing what RK meant to her, gave her another level of excitement. She was running around preparing for RK's birthday party. She hadn't wished him all day and she had decided to announce her love as his gift in the evening.

RK on the other hand was disappointed. Everyone had wished him since night and only Madhu hadn't. He didn't have courage to face her or answer her questions. He hadnt even seen her properly.. He didnt know what he should do..

Madhu was rushing to the store when she noticed RK sitting in the lawn with his eyes closed. A 5 year old girl was standing behind him trying hard to tie his short hair into a ponytail while 2 others were sitting on his laps and talking something among themselves as if it was any normal chair. Madhu broke into a giggle seeing him sitting with them without even a hint of discomfort on his face. Her eyes at the same time filled with tears. He was the only man she can ever relate to. He had the same passion and feelings for these kids which she had. 16 years back he provided a 4 year old Madhu with comfort and family. And even now he was doing that for these children. Her decision to get him strengthened even more.

The evening arrived and everyone started assembling in the garden. RK who was kept whole day in the back lawn by the kids was finally allowed out of the lawn into the front garden. It was quite decorated. One look at the surroundings and he knew Madhu did it. Only she knew what would please him the most.

RK was roaming around sharing customary smiles with everyone. How he wished Madhu knew that this time he wasnt in a mood to attend random people. He just wanted to be alone. Or maybe be with her. Thats when he felt a pat on his shoulder. He turned around and found Sultan standing infront.

"Happy Birthday Bro.." Sultan said with a smile trying to hide his own pain on loosing Madhu to him.

"Thanks.. I am glad to see you here.." RK said faking. Madhu hadn't broken up with him and that was a sigh of relief. He was afraid that Madhu might have ended her relation by now as far as he knew her..

"So.. enjoying your party.." Sultan said.

"Kind of.. actually its more of a shocker.. i wasnt expecting this.." he said formally.

"Madhu was quite excited to surprise you tonight.." he said disappointed as he remembered Trishna telling him that Madhu was going to confess her love for RK tonight.

Suddenly they heard Madhu's singing voice. They turned to see her and both were stunned. Even though they had realized how beautiful she was but tonight she looked ethereal. She wore a pinkish white gown which was flowing with the breeze. Her hair loose with a flowery band around her head. Both of their hearts broke to pieces. RK's because he believed that he will have to let her go and Sultan's because he knew that she was not his.

"Aaa... haan hasi ban gaye
Haan nami ban gaye
Tum meri aasman, Meri zameen ban gaye..." Madhu sang while looking at RK.

Just then Dipali came running and hugged RK wishing him birthday in his ears. RK smiled at her uncomfortable at her sudden frankness while Madhu felt hurt seeing her clinging at RK's arm and whispering in his ears. But she didnt loose her cool as she still stared deep into RK's eyes with a smile on.

"Haan hum badalne lage
Girne Sambhalne lage
Jabse hai jaana tujhe
Teri or chalne lage"

Dipali whispered something in his ears while RK stared at Madhu in determination. Yes, this was a way to make Madhu strong on her decision to stay with Sultan. Being closer to Dipali. He smiled at Dipali and held her hand while slipped the other arm on her waist.

"Har safar har jagah
Har kahin ban gaye
Mante the khuda
Aur haan wahi ban gaye"

RK and Dipali danced slowly on Madhu's song while she kept looking at RK. But now she was trying to hold back her tears and her eyes shone with tear film. RK looked and smiled at Dipali trying to ignore Madhu. He wanted her to hate him so she can start her life with Sultan without any regrets.

"Pehchante hi nahi
Ab log tanha mjhe
Meri nigaho mei bhi
Hain dhundte vo tujhe"

Madhu's voice had started shaking a little by now as she remembered all her life with RK. And seeing him so focussed on this other girl now. Suddenly this whole idea seemed a big mistake. He loves dipali and he doesn't want to leave her and Madhu felt she is pushing him unnecessarily. She should take signs that he is giving her.

"Hum the dhundte jise
Vo kami ban gaye
Tum mere ishq ki
Sar zameen ban gaye.."

Her voice started cracking now. She wanted to break down but controlled herself. RK closed his eyes in pain hearing her voice as he faced the other side.

"Haan hansi ban gaye
Haan nami ban gaye
Tum mere aasman meri zamen ban gaye..."

He knew he had hurt her and he was the reason for her tears. Dipali smiled a little disappointed. She took in a deep breath to control her emotions on what she knew was her last dance with RK.

Madhu had finished now. She looked around as everyone clapped for her while she felt hurt and humiliated. Her eyes stuck on RK who was looking at her with just a casual smile while his arm wrapped behind Dipali's waist. As if she didnt mean to him. Dipali herself was staring at him baffled. He never held her that way and moreover she knew RK was crazy for anything concerning Madhu. But right now when Madhu had sung for him, he was standing like a statue with a plastered smile.

Madhu turned away humiliated as she ran off from their leaving most of others confused. RK looked at her with pain in his eyes but then turned to other side and walked away furiously. He ran his hand in his hair out of frustration as he reached a secluded area of the garden.

He was cursing himself when he felt a hard push. He turned around angrily when he saw Sikky glaring at him.

"What happened to you?" RK askes baffled. He had such an important issue to cope up and here Sikky was angry over something irrelevant. Or that he thought to be irrelevant.

"Why did you make Madhu cry?" He shouted.

"What.." RK looked at him shocked. Both that Madhu was crying and that a person like Sikky had noticed that it was him because of whom she cried.

"Yes.. cant you see..? Dont you have manners? She was singing a song as your birthday gift and you ignored her for your girlfriend?" Sikky screamed as he pushed him again.

"Stop pushing me.." RK said as he pushed him back angry at himself, now hearing what he did to Madhu.

"Is that outsider girlfriend more important than Madhu? We four had decided to be for each other whatsoever. And never let anyone come between us.. and you put your girlfriend above Madhu..? You didnt even notice that she was crying..!" He shouted.

"I noticed!! I did that purpose fully!"

"Why?!" Sikky screamed out of disbleief. He made her cry knowingly.

"Because its for her own good.. she needs to go away from this place and start a healthy life outside! Do you want her to stay in this orphanage forever?" RK asked him with a lump forming in his throat.

Sikky stared at him dumbstruck for a few seconds. He took in a deep breath. "But she was crying?" He said helplessly.

RK looked away as he closed his eyes in pain. "I know.. we have to make her let us go.." RK said while still looking away.

"But I thought all four of us will stay together forever.." Sikky looked at him as another realization dawned on him that even this family would leave him and move on.

"We will stay together" RK said holding his shoulder.

They were still talking when they heard Trishna laughing at a close distance. They looked that way and found her standing with Sultan. As Sultan looked at him flirtingly giving some one liners, Trishna was fidgeting with her neck chain as she smiled and blushed.

"Your smile seems to be brighter than the lights here.." Sultan said.

Trishna looked down shyly and smiled.

"I didnt know you were such a gentleman.." Trishna said in a cooing voice.

"Even I didnt know you were so lovely.. Actually its Madhu's fault that she didnt introduce us ever.." he said with a slight frown.

"I think this idea never occured to her.." Trishna said trying to save her friend.

"I would rather say she is jealous of you." Sultan said with a sly smile

"Jealous.. Why?" Trishna acted confused.

"Because she knew that if I spend time with you, your charm would definitely sting me.."

That was when he felt a punch on his jaw. He looked up startled to see RK standing there fuming in rage. He held Sultan's collar and pulled him close to his face.

"How dare you talk of Madhu like that..? And how dare you betray her?" He said cringing his teeth as he looked at him angrily. He gave another punch on his face.

Sultan growled in pain. "Stop this you psycho!" He shouted freeing himself. "Do I not know that you are hell bent on tying your friend with me for your own benefit.. you dont love her so you are bent on passing on the burden to me.." he said angrily but then his expression changed to a sly smile. "Well its not your fault.. She is not beautiful enough to be loved.."

"Thats not true!" RK stepped forward to beat him again but Sultan caught his hand in the air.

"If its not true why have you made her cry and insulted her in public? We don't do that for those who we care for" Sultan said looking at him straight in the eyes.

Realization dawned on RK that Madhu was alone crying somewhere for him while he had made her cry for this man here who was busy flirting with Trishna. RK pushed him away for the last time and walked off with large steps.

He climbed up the stairs restlessly as he knew she would be on the roof. As soon as he reached up he found Madhu sitting on one corner while looking straight ahead. She wasnt crying, she wasnt shocked but sat with a blank expression.

"Madhu.." RK called as he walked forward to sit beside her. Madhu looked at him as if breaking from some dream.

As soon as her gaze focussed on RK tears started forming in her eyes. RK came rushing to her as he too was getting emotional and guilty for getting Madhu in that situation. He came closer as he stretched his arms around her to hug her. But Madhu started hitting his chest frantically.

"You are bad!" She shouted at him as she cried.

"I am sorry Madhu.. I was being too stupid" he said as a tear fell from his eye.

"You are stupid..!" She screamed at him.

RK pulled her closer and hugged her tightly as they both burst into cries.

"I am sorry Rishu.." Madhu said as they quieted down.

"Why?" RK asked confused.

"I took our friendship in the wrong way.. I thought I love you and imposed my feelings on you.. I should have realized that you love Dipali and I am just interfering.." Madhu said looking down in guilt.

"Shut up Madhu.. You know I never loved Dipali.." RK said irritated

"But I thought you love her.. You were so happy with her tonight and you were so happy with her that evening at the bridge.." she said confused.

"What did you see at the bridge that you thought I love her.. it was you and Sultan who were..." he stopped midway not knowing what to say.

"You were so happy with her.. laughing and smiling and you even fluffed her hair the way you do mine." She said disheartened.

RK almost slapped his hand on his face. "It was not for her... I mean I was with her but I thought I was with you.. and then I fluffed your hair like I always do but then I saw it was her and then I stopped then I saw you were there too.." RK blaberred quickly trying to justify himself. He didnt know why he felt that need.

"Okk Rishu.. Calm down.." Madhu held his arm.

"I dont know what had happened that day.. It was so beautiful and then I wished you were with me and suddenly I felt your scent around me.."

"Because I had come there..." she said blushing. "Even I hoped that you were with me seeing the beautiful night.."

RK smiled hearing her and fluffed her hair. "Its only you whom I can do that to.."

"It better be.." Madhu looked at him warningly with narrowed eyes. RK pulled her closer and they hugged again closing their eyes to enjoy the bliss..

"Rishu.." Madhu said after sometime. "I didnt want to hug Sultan that day.. It all just happened.."

"Leave Madhu.." RK said not wanting to hear his name right now.

"But I want to tell!!" Madhu said angrily.

"Okay... " RK said with a chuckle. "Go on parrot.."

"I saw you with Dipali and I felt so insecure and afraid that when Sultan asked me what happenned I just hugged him to cry.. and he took it otherwise and gave me that ring.. Then I saw you angry and forgot to tell him that I am not ready.."

"Oohhh..." RK understood the whole situation. "And that night I felt I lost you... and when you refused it later I thought you were influenced by my reaction.." he said looking down.

"You are the only person because of whom I have survived all these years.. There is no place I can be whole without you.."

"Rishu.." Madhu parted from him.. "Do we love each other?" She asked innocently.

RK smiled hearing her. "Maybe..." he said nodding thoughtfully.

"How is it possible that we don't know whether we love each other or not?" Madhu asked thoughtfully.

"Maybe because we already feel so extreme for each other that there is no room for more.." RK said with a nervous smile.

"I agree to that.." Madhu nodded her head.

"So we will stay two wierd friends?" Madhu asked confused.

"Yeah.. Two wierd friends for life.." RK said chuckling in pride. While Madhu smiled in satisfaction.

"But we will have sex right?" Madhu asked with wide eyes.

"Oohh.. when did you start thinking of sex?" RK asked suspicious.

"Since you kissed me that night.." she replied shyly.

RK smiled nervously. "It was actually other way round.. You started that.."

"But why did you stop?" She asked still disappointed.

" I felt I was taking your advantage.. you were too much driven by your emotions then.."

" Ohh If I wouldnt have been sad you wouldnt have stopped?" She asked delighted like a kid.

"Maybe not.." RK shrugged trying to behave normal but in real his senses started to tingle with such talks.

"Lets..." Madhu was about to say something when RK cut her off. "We will marry Madhu.." he said softly.

"Marriage!" She exclaimed. "Really?"

"Of course.. two wierd friends will have to marry if they have to stay together forever.." RK said pinching her nose lovingly.

"Even I would want to stay with you forever but I can't marry you.." came Sikky's voice from behind.

They turned around to find the whole group standing there with big smiles on. RK's gaze fell on Sultan and his blood started to boil again. He stood up furiously and marched towards Sultan.

"Wait" Trishna exclaimed getting between the two immediately

"I will talk to you later Trish.. But first let me.." he said again walking towards Sultan.

"Why?" Madhu asked as she too now stood beside them as she held RK's arm..

"You dont know Madhu.. This man whom you trusted so much has betrayed you.. he was flirting with Trish.. and even said bad about you."

"He may have flirted with Trishna but he hasnt betrayed me.." Madhu exclaimed baffled.

"What.."

"yes.. I have already broke up with him yesterday." She said

"You broke up with him.." RK said delighted suddenly.

"Yes..." Sultan said disheartened.

"And apart from that whatever he said was just a drama.." Trishna intervened because she knew soon RK's attention would be captured about what all Sultan said for Madhu.

"What drama?" RK asked confused.

"So that you realize your love" Trishna said proud at her idea.

RK and Madhu smiled shyly.

"Even Dipali was involved. All that dance and all.." Trishna said.

"Well I may have initiated that dance for Madhu's sake but I cherish every bit of it..." Dipali giving a haughty smile but then burst out giggling trying to hide her tears.

"Why was I the only one left?" Sikky exclaimed offended.

"Because you know the least about secrets or acting or pretending..!" Trishna snapped at him.
"Rather I would say you know the least about everything.." she said acting to be thoughtful.

Sikky who was standing behind her held her arm and twisted it behind her. "Now you can speak whatever you want.." he said angrily.

"Okk sorry.. dont turn into the kid you are.." Trishna said trying to free herself.

"Stop it Sikky.." Madhu scolded him softly eyeing Sultan and Dipali that they would know what crazies the four of them are..

"I am sorry Sultan.. I may have punched you really hard.." RK said with an embarrassed smile.

"Don't be sorry.. even I felt disgusted with myself at that time.. but this.." he touched his cheek and growled in pain. "I was prepared for it though.."

All of them looked at him sympathetically.

"Thank God Madhu didnt decide on something like that." Dipali said with wide eyes imaging her hair being pulled by Madhu.

They burst into laughter hearing them.

"Finally these two realize their love" Trishna said looking at the sky.

"No we dont..." Madhu said shrugging helplessly.

"What!!" The four of them said in shock. All of their efforts went in vain!

"But we have decided to stay together for life and find out whether their's room for love in our friendship.. " RK said with a cheesy smile.

"And even if we don't.. our friendship is strong enough to keep us together forever.." Madhu said thrilled by this idea while everyone sighed in relief hearing them
