wow! thanks so much for giving such quick updates! you're one heck of an awesome writer! arnav have his own baggage from the past just like khushi. the bullied have now turned into a bully. so they HAVE something in common after all. it was funny to to read about young arnav being bullied mercilessly by hiren and his sidekicks after knowing how powerful he is now! its good for arnav to utilize such strategies in life but that doesn't mean he can use them on one and everyone. i feel the story will have a crucial turn now. m already waiting for next one..

I'm so very sorry guys. Was badly stuck today with lots of distractions. Wasn't until now that I was finally able to concentrate. So here it is... the next update. And yes, more are on their way. ;)

~ CHAPTER TWENTY-FIVE ~

The stunned goonies stood on and watched a completely discouraged Hiren squirm on the dust in pain. It took a moment for Arnav to gather his wits before switching into flight mode.

"Get him!!!"

The boys raced after Arnav, pinned him down and began to wreak havoc all over, punching and kicking him wherever they could. "How dare you!"

Arnav was terrified. He knew what was coming and had to save himself. The usual tactic of the boys. Holding him in place while one of them would take the honour of stuffing a liberal amount of powdered red chillies into his eyes. Arnav screamed at the top of his lungs and struggled to free himself with all available resources - sand, gravel, pebbles, stones, his hands and feet...

"Look at him! Screaming like a sissy girl!" the boys mocked him.

The intense fear of getting cornered, hurt and belittled... of being threatened... the stinging pain of being alone with no one to defend him... created a monster. A monster that would come to his rescue and protect him.

After that incident, Hiren and his goonies made several attempts to take on their challenger. To make him bite the dust for good. But by now, the monster had become a prominent part of his otherwise frightened, hurt and meek personality. There was no way he was backing down. Eventually, they had to retreat. For good.

~ End of Flashback ~

Arnav was at his laptop now. He helped himself to a glass of juice whilst he mopped himself up with a large, fluffy towel.

Mission YouTube was on. Arnav accessed the nightmares he had witnessed from Lavanya's phone this morning. He let out a deep puff of air. A total of 767 views, 55 shares, 102 likes and 2 dislikes.

2 dislikes? Then there are some pessimists who come on YouTube only to dislike videos, no matter how good it may be. I bet that no one or nothing can please them ever. Not even hundred sessions with his girlfriend or wife... or whatever...

The video had been edited to playback a horny piece of music in the background... the usual grand piano, saxophone, blah blah... and a couple of gasps and moans. "Dammit," he mumbled. Arnav hardly blinked as he browsed through the comments.

Hot!!!

This video made my day! I just can't stop coming!

Yummmyyy!

Try to make more videos with these two. Lovely pair.

Some of the comments on the escalator video were too disgusting that Arnav felt his guts gurgle.

Look how he has plugged himself into her socket. The lucky devil! Mind blowing voltage yaar!

"What the f**k," he cussed under his breath, "what is he even saying? Goddammit! It's your father who has plugged himself into your disgusting socket." But the next comment, had his attention.

When and why did this girl start doing all this? As a singer, she had a very bright future to look forward to! Why was this even necessary? This is so wrong! Highly disappointed.

Arnav was curious now. Singer? Bright future? She can sing? I didn't know she could! She doesn't even look like it. Maybe they've got the wrong person?

But Arnav was intrigued. Why am I even bothered? I was supposed to find out who made this goddamn video. But an unbearable impulse kept pushing him to find out more about Khushi Gupta. And so, he landed on her Facebook page.

Her profile pic was a lovely shot of herself in a sky blue tunic. Her latest post was made just half an hour back. It was a quote: Arrogance is used by the weak while kindness is used by the strong.

As soon as he read it, he felt the walls of his chest closing in with a tight clench. Why does this sound like it's meant for me?

And the next quote: Pulling someone down will never help you reach the top.

At this, Arnav's nostrils flared and his chest ached with a dull throb. Now I'm sure that it was meant for me.

Her wall was mostly loaded with quotes about positive thinking. But it wasn't until lately that the arrogance quotes started popping up. That was enough to convince Arnav that her posts were directed at him!

He was now in her About section. Nothing special as far as he knew. It was just her date of birth, place and other trivial information which he already knew from her CV and employee information form (which she had filled in while joining the company).

But her photo albums began to provide more insight. There were several pics depicting her world:

A happy bonding with Chacha and Chachy.

Freaking out with my bestie Jhanvi.

At the People for Ethical Treatment of Animals Charity Event.

Old is gold - hostel days.

Inter-college festival, 2010.

Messing around with the veena. And several others.

So it's true, thought Arnav as he browsed through the Inter-college festival album showing photos of Khushi bagging the award for the best Carnatic singer, she is a singer. Now that's interesting. At least her notes won't fall. Or does it?

But Arnav guts were wrenching. What he saw didn't make him feel good at all. At least, her life looks more colourful than mine. She's lucky. She's got friends. Relatives. She's happy... unlike me.

As depression set in once again, he took a deep breath, shut the laptop and slouched flat onto his comfy bed. She's got people to care for her. Love her... and me? I'm... always alone... no one cared about me... not even my parents...

~ Flashback ~

Arnav, aged 12, watched with a heavy heart as his father took his little brother Prem and disappeared into the night. Prem had joined the school's football team and wanted a ball for himself. It didn't take any efforts on Prem's side to convince his father to get him what he wanted. All what he had to do was say those magic words and voila... it would be there at any time of the day...

Arnav quickly retreated to his room and shut himself in as he felt the tears stinging in his eyes. He felt angry... jealous... sad... suppressed... unimportant... None of his desires were ever met. None of his needs were of any significance. He felt disconnected. His parents loved him until Prem was born. And then, his world changed forever. The partiality of his parents hurt him to the core. They no longer found him interesting. They no longer wanted to engage in heart to heart conversations with him. And he being the older one, they expected him to understand and compromise on everything.

Concentrate on your books. That's what his parents told him. Why do you want to play basketball now? And why do you need a basketball now? Have you seen your marks? You better not come in with a lousy report next time. You're going to be grounded for good.

Why are you talking about unnecessary things? Do you realize that you're wasting your time talking about this boy and that boy or some girl? Huh? You should be studying!

~ End of flashback ~

It didn't take long for the tears building up in his eyes to be replaced with burning anger. Just one word. Helplessness. That's all what he felt. His heart constantly ached at the rejection. So much that he felt desperately powerless.

**********************

Much later in the night, Arnav strolled along a crowded open ground where a special Chinese Lantern Festival was being held. He wasn't alone. Lavanya was with him.

The entire night sky was flooded with the lights from the colourful lanterns floating away into oblivion.

"This is so beautiful," said Lavanya dreamily as she gazed longingly at the lantern they had just hoisted into the air.

"Not without you," came Arnav's quiet reply. Lavanya turned to face him and saw a familiar glint in his eyes. There was something so inviting in his gaze that she couldn't help but close in and plant a kiss on his heavenly lips.

Arnav sucked in passionately as he wrapped his arms around her and savoured the warmth radiating from her body into his chest. "I love you," he whispered as he gently pulled back and looked into Khushi's eyes!

Arnav was speechless as he stared into Khushi's glowing face instead of Lavanya's. No... what the... this can't be happening... I was kissing Lavanya... how did she come in?

Note: Guys, don't worry about the low tone of the story at present. The sad moments are short lived and very soon all the fun will be back ;)

loved it! the youtube part was fun to read😆 the comments just made me spilling with laughter! arnav's childhood isn't what every child dreams of. its filled with loss of attachment, dejection and pain. khushi's abandoning her singing has anything to do with her chacha chachi not supporting? so the feelings have already come rolling in, at least from arnav's side.

~ CHAPTER TWENTY-SIX ~

Arnav woke up with a start from his horrifying nightmare. It took a moment for him to register what was happening before he blindly groped for his cell phone and turned off its disgusting alarm. It had been ringing relentlessly for a while now and was pissing him off big time!

Arnav sat up with a long groan and rubbed the stiff nape of his neck. His eyes were still screwed shut and he felt dry and groggy.

His kiss with Khushi... came rushing back into the darkness of his eyes. Her beautiful face which glowed under the orange hue of the mystical lanterns simply wouldn't go away. Her large, gorgeous eyes seemed even more magical than he had ever noticed. As for her warm, passionate kiss, that was something he had accidentally experienced before.

"Aww man, I don't believe this," he groaned and ruffled his hair, "now she has started to haunt me in my dreams. This can't be happening."

But admit it, said his heart, that kiss played the right notes. Yeah?

Arnav hissed irritably, picked up his towel and headed to the bathroom for a shower.

*******************

It was 6:45 in the morning when Dhruv turned up for work. But Khushi had already beaten him to it. The lights in the filing room were on and there was the constant ruffling of papers.

"Khushi?" Dhruv craned his neck into the filing room. "In so early?"

Khushi, who had heard Dhruv come in through the department's door wasn't startled with his sudden apparition in the filing room. "Aren't you supposed to say good morning?" she asked with a cheeky grin.

"Sorry," he chuckled and made his way in, "good morning. When did you come in?"

"Six-thirty," she stated stiffly, "as discussed last evening."

"As discussed," Dhruv repeated with a sheepish grin. He felt amused at the words she chose to use.

"Yep, as discussed," she snickered.

"Achcha, tell me, had your breakfast?" Dhruv gathered up a pile of papers and began to sort them.

"So early in the day? You got to be nuts!" Unlike Dhruv, Khushi seemed to be having trouble in doing two things at a time. She fumbled with the papers and the stapler.

"Well, out here it's best to eat whenever you get the chance," said Dhruv with his eyes on his work, "because once the Arnav Singh Raizada comes in then you won't even get to breathe." Khushi could notice the extra care Dhruv took to blend in his hatred whilst talking about Arnav.

Khushi's mind was already racing now. From the riot that could happen once Arnav popped in to the discussion she had with Jhanvi last evening. "Dhruv..." she began hesitantly.

"Hmm?"

"Can I ask you something?" she said quietly.

"Sure."

"If an employee resigns soon after joining, then is it necessary to serve notice?"

"Well," Dhruv began in a casual tone, "it actually depends on what's mentioned on the offer letter. But generally, if an employee resigns during probation, he or she has to serve a week's notice."

"A week!!?" Khushi's chest was thumping now. Before she could stop herself, she blurted out the one question that had been troubling her since last evening. "Then why did he ask me to serve a month's notice?!!?"

"Who?" he looked up at Khushi with questions in his eyes.

"Uh..." Khushi realized that she just spoke out her mind. "Arnav... he asked me to serve a month's notice. I had put in my resignation yesterday. Verbally at least."

"What are the terms in your offer?" Dhruv enquired curiously.

"It mentions a month's notice," she replied, "but there's nothing mentioned about probation."

Dhruv sighed and nodded his head in disbelief. "When you make a deal with Arnav, you need to be extra careful."

"But my question is... I resigned on the first day itself. So why should I serve notice? I mean... I don't have anything to hand it over. So why should I work that long?"

Dhruv began to respond but stopped dead as the loud bang of the department's door followed by hurried footsteps caught their attention. He glanced at this watch. 7:00 AM. "Probably Cabir," he mumbled.

But their conclusions were shattered as a bustling Arnav stopped by the filing room and asked, "What are you guys doing here?"
