PART-23

"What? How could they let such big misunderstanding come between them?" Gauri stood shocked in the living room of Singhania Mansion. She couldn't believe at the stupidity of her two children; one didn't gave the other or the trust between them any chance. And the other didn't do anything to earn that trust back. For eight long years both continued to suffer and made their families suffer too.

Now when Kamla told Gauri what Kalpi had confided in her, Gauri didn't know what to do? "Calm down Taai, our children committed a mistake. But God is great, he has given them another chance to rectify their mistakes and strengthen old bonds. I have full faith on him" Kamla told Gauri.

Gauri sighed "You are right Kamla, maybe it is my mistake too. I did not force Raghav enough to confide in me. Maybe my attempts were not serious.I allowed time to slip by our hands. Maybe if I had we could do something before."

"Don't say like this Taai. Even I am at fault here. But it is no use counting our past mistakes. Now that we do know real issue, we will try to help our children come at peace with themselves" Kamla assured Gauri. "Yes Kamla, you are right. We will, we cannot lose hope now. We will help our children" Gauri agreed with Kamla, her phone still pressed against her ear.

Her hands rested on her lap; her fingers were intertwined; Kalpana was lost in a maze of thoughts. She was barely aware of her hair stylist getting her ready. The night before's conversation with her Aai still fresh in her mind, Kalpi's inners fought a final battle. After a while she was left alone, waiting for the call out for the shot as she tried remembering the lines for the first scene of that day. But Kalpi's heart was anywhere but on the bundle of papers in front of her. How could it be, when her heartbeats danced on the beats of Raghav's touch that morning? There was something different about him and about hat touch; it was a soft, lingering one.

Kalpi remembered like every morning Raghav had visited his van and brought a yellow rose with him. When their eyes met, a gentle smirk played on Raghav's lips. He had continued looking at Kalpi like a thirsty person, trying to drink her appearance in. Then sighing he'd walked towards Kalpi without breaking their eye-contact. In those moments Kalpana was lost in Raghav's eyes. His eyes spoke and that morning for the first time Kalpi had seen a different softness for herself in them. Raghav had gently caressed Kalpi's cheeks with the yellow flower softly touched Kalpana's cheeks with it before placing kisses on both her cheeks. Holding her one cheek with her hand, Kalpi closed her eyes even now, wanting to feel it again. The feeling of those soft, lingering and gentle kisses on her cheeks. Unlike other days, today Raghav had taken his own sweet time to move his lips away from Kalpi's face. He'd allowed them to linger on Kalpi's soft skin longer than usual. When he did move away, Raghav's eyes carried a pleading look. "You would Kalpi? You would allow me to do this always right?" Raghav had asked Kalpi in a hoarse whisper and Kalpi was surprised with the nature of this question. Raghav's eyes, his voice and his words had carried an insecurity within them; unlike the possessiveness which Kalpi had seen in them every other time.

"Raghav?" Kalpi had managed to question back, her voice a whisper itself. But Raghav was impatient "Answer me Kalpi, will you allow your mornings to fill in with this little presence always? If I, I manage to..." and Raghav had left his sentence incomplete. Closing his eyes in exasperation Raghav had sighed and on opening his lips separated to say "Just answer this much." Unable to make out much of it, Kalpi could only nod her head in agreement. "Always, always Raghav; always" Kalpi had whispered back and Raghav's eyes had lit up with joy. "Thank you; that's all I wanted to hear and...that is enough" Raghav had said and Kalpi had began to wonder if all was well with him.Then he'd caressed Kalpi's head, placed a kiss on it and stepped out of the van, before turning back to see Kalpi once again.

Kalpana's battered mind was even more in despair at Raghav's strange behavior. But she'd chosen to deliberate on what her Aai had said instead.

Going back to their childhood Kalpana had tried recollecting all her moments with Raghav. As she saw now, her Aai was correct; Raghav had always been by her side; fought with her yet fought for her. Never ever had he broken Kalpi and their mothers' trust. Whenever Kalpana needed Raghav or a support other than Gauri Taai and her Aai; Raghav always lend it. Sometimes Kalpana got to know about Raghav protecting and helping her from others; how Raghav had threatened and forbade others from harassing her. How her studies were made so easy because to her amazement; Kalpi always got the right notes; and the right books. Then she hadn't known Raghav used to arrange them all for her discreetly. He fought with his Mom when she took Kalpi's side but always obeyed her; in turn he got loads of pampering by his Kamla Maa who always took his side. Come to think of it, it was like a family scene; love fights but love always underneath. They hadn't realised it till now.

Stepping put Kalpana spotted Raghav, he was laughing around with one of the unit members. Kalpi observed him and recollected everything. Raghav had always been there for her; whether Kalpi saw it or not. Maybe the only exception which came to Kalpi's mind was that fateful day when they got separated. But then, as she admitted to herself everything she did and said was under the influence of her stubborn mind. Maybe she was too obsessed with pushing Raghav and her new feelings for him away from herself. Thus she failed to listen to the logical side of her brain and heart.

Just then Raghav looked towards her, smiled and gestured with his eyes for Kalpi to go for her shot. Kalpi nodded and walked away, but not before the realization that Raghav cannot be her wrong-doer. He simply couldn't be; even though this left Kalpi with a curiousity as to if not Raghav then who? This one incident couldn't be an exception but possibly one big misunderstanding; one which wasn't cleared due to her own stubborn attitude. Raghav would never harm her; he respected and love their mothers a lot even if not herself.

Now Raghav's eyes carried a sad look but the same eyes confirmed Kalpana's thoughts. Suddenly the clouds on her mind cleared, the wall around her heart cracked completely. Kalpi's heart and mind together screamed her that Raghav was innocent all those eight years ago. Even before Kalpi confronted Raghav to seal her new found realization, Kalpana knew that this time she was right.She would do everything, anything to make up with him Kalpi thought. No need of proof; Kalpana's Raghav was back in her heart, where he belonged; acquitted in the case filed by her heart.

Two days later it was Pakhya's Birthday party in a well-known five star hotel. Raghav stood sipping his drink, twirling the contents slowly in the glass. Agonised at the scene in front of him, Raghav clenched his jaw tightly as his grasp on the glass also tightened. Only close family and friends were invited in the party, but the crowd was enough for Raghav to hide his pain in a lone dark corner. Everyone was there; his Mom, Kamla Maa, Sammy, Sapna,Pakhya and Kalpi's friends; and birthday boy himself- Pakhya. The cake cutting had been done half an hour ago and now Raghav chose to stand alone in a corner.

After having decided not to impose his decisions and wishes upon Kalpi, Raghav was having a hard time not to let go of his control for what actually his heart and senses desired. He saw Prem and Kalpana dancing together over a party number. Even though it was Prem who had dragged Kalpi on to the dance floor and not vice versa, it was still painful. For more than two days now, Raghav had tried to act upon his decision of not ruling Kalpi's life; to let go of his supposedly artificial rights on her.

He had done everything, from not jeopardizing Kalpi and Prem's plans of shopping together for Pakhya's birthday gift; to not assert Kalpi to join him in lunch. Raghav remembered the sharp pain he'd felt when two days ago he'd seen Prem cheerily asking Kalpi to leave together for the purchase of Pakhya's Birthday gift. That day the three main leads of the show had almost negligible shots; Raghav, Kalpi and Prem. It required shooting mostly by other artistes to carry the story ahead.

Having been free early, Prem had asked Kalpi if they could leave then. All this had happened in front of Raghav's eyes and he could do nothing. He'd stood watching and observing them from a distance. Instantly Kalpi had looked in Raghav's direction, her eyes had met his for brief seconds. They seemed to be waiting for something, but...what? Baffled Raghav had kept playing the role of a mute spectator. His eyes never leaving Kalpi's vision, afraid she'll vanish the instant he shook his head. But at that moment, Raghav didn't do anything to stop Kalpi. He'll always give his Kalpi, her happiness. After what seemed like eternity Kalpi had focused back on Prem, and in a low voice accepted. "Okay, let's go" she'd said and Raghav's heart had broken; sad he wasn't the one going with her.

Kalpi and Prem had passed him without giving a second look. Raghav felt the piercing tease in his chest but ignoring that, managed to make a call, "Yes, I want her protected and safe". She doesn't want attention; she only needs peace Raghav knew. And he was to ensure this peace is never disturbed again; by any hand. Raghav could do that along with maintaining a distance with Kalpi.He hired some private detective & security agency, telling them to keep an eye on Kalpana's every movement. "Anything suspicious or harmful, you shall protect her and give me updates with photos daily" Raghav barked orders over phone. By evening photos of Prem and Kalpana's outing were in his hands; with a longing Raghav had touched them before throwing away. He'd wiped the lone tear escaping his eye, and resolved "No matter what, I will always protect you Kalpi."

Then there was this lunch time; he avoided having lunch Kalpi, immersing himself in work and love for her instead. But one day it was different; Kamla Maa had sent lunch especially for Raghav. He knew because Kalpi had told him in their brief meeting time in morning. After ages, Raghav had strode towards Kalpana during lunch time but saw Prem standing there instead with back towards him. With horror Raghav had seen Prem eating a spoonful of delicious lunch prepared by his Kamla Maa. Going by her reaction, even Kalpi was surprised but she didn't object. She merely looked towards Raghav with an aplogetic look on her face.

Feeling a sudden surge of anger Raghav couldn't take in any more. Still suppressing his anger he'd walked towards Kalpi, intending to eat the lunch. Unlike ordering Kalpi like before, Raghav had asked Kalpi, "Can I have this lunch? Kamla Maa cooked for me right?" He saw a surprised look on Kalpi's face before she replied "Yes-yes, why not? This is for you only; in fact I was thinking we could have lunch together." Thus after three days Raghav had a quiet and peaceful lunch that day, as he sat and ate with Kalpi.

Now as he watched Prem and Kalpi dancing together, with a gulp of his drink Raghav thought, "Maybe I tried too hard to grasp on to my childhood friendship, to the happiness I felt in her presence. But if it's not the same with her and she is happy with someone else; I'll no more be a jerk to her. I shall stay away from her decisions. If she is mine; if she loves me, no one can take away what is mine. But if she likes someone else, I'll move out of her way." What confused him was the little change in Kalpana's behavior and expressions towards him. She now gave him more heartfelt smiles, her eyes seemed to be trying to say something yet something stopped her. "Now why Kalpi? Now why? When I have changed my path? And tonight, tonight you confused me even more; when you gave me the cake and made me eat with your own hands. Tonight, you were different, you were laughing with me, as you stuffed that cake into my mouth. Why Kalpi? Does that mean, you forgave me? Or Prem's love changed you?" Raghav stole another quick glance towards Prem and Kalpi, they were still dancing.

He closed his eyes and shook his head, "That's it; enough for now. I cannot bear to see them together anymore." Thinking so with a thud he kept his glass on a counter and walked fast towards exit; but how could he leave without taking one more look of his Kalpi? Turning his head Raghav's eyes found Kalpi; and found her staring right back at him. Prem seemed to be saying something to her, but Kalpi's eyes were focused on himself. There was something in her eyes, which was stopping Raghav. But "I've thought enough from Kalpi's side. No more" this thought firmed Raghav's resolve and he left the party hall, leaving his Kalpi behind.

With a heavy heart Kalpi saw Raghav leaving the hall, his eyes showed his anger, his pain and maybe a misunderstanding; an aloofness. "I hope it's not that Bappa" Kalpi thought "I hope Raghav doesn't think me and Prem are together! He is behaving so weirdly since past two days."

After having accepted Raghav's innocence about eight years ago incident, Kalpi didn't know how to handle this. She had yet to apologize from Raghav; having unable to decide what and how to say. After being stubborn and habitual of blaming, accusing Raghav for so long this new feeling brought a vacuum within her. Kalpi couldn't come over her shame and build courage to talk to Raghav about it. Everytime she went near him and tried speaking, words failed her. Nervousness cut her tongue and she ended up remaining silent. Raghav's different behavior was not helping her either. All of a sudden Raghav had stopped commanding Kalpi, stopped demanding things from her, and stopped showing his possessiveness for her. Only thing consistent was Raghav's morning gifts, how she'd come to enjoy the feel of those soft lips against her cheeks. But apart from angry, sad and painful, sometimes requesting gazes Kalpi didn't get anything else from Raghav now. If at all he wanted anything, Raghav would request or ask Kalpi for it. He'd completely surprised her when even for his own lunch, sent by her Aai for him Raghav took Kalpi's permission for having it. When Prem wanted to take Kalpi for shopping, she had looked longingly towards Raghav. Hoping to see the sight of her possessive and stubborn Raghav, hoping that Raghav would stop her; and she wanted to go with Raghav. But once again Raghav had kept silent.

With some difficulty Kalpi had managed to be herself with Raghav in tonight's party. Pakhya had cut the cake and Kalpi herself went to give a piece to Raghav. She had so much fun making him eat more than he could handle; and for those few moments both of them were childhood friends again. Then Prem dragged her on to the dance floor. Aria's parents had agreed to their marriage proposal and soon enough Prem was leaving to meet them once more. "My family has already left today. I'll leave tomorrow. You know today was the last day of my shoot for the show. My role comes to an end" Prem had told Kalpi with a mixture of joy and sadness.

Kalpi was very happy for her friend and they'd shared a hug, one not gone unnoticed by Raghav. Prem celebrated his happiness for a few more moments with Kalpana on the dance floor. But soon enough, Kalpi started feeling restless, since evening she was having this feeling. Kalpi knew it was something to do with Raghav. Suddenly she had this urge to see him, go to him; but when she looked around Raghav wasn't there. She looked some more and found Raghav going towards the exit door. Kalpi's heart sank with an unknown feeling; she kept looking towards his form when Raghav suddenly stopped. He turned a bit to look towards her and their eyes met; there was an unsaid resolve, pain and sadness within Raghav's eyes. Kalpi hoped that Raghav would read her eyes, that he would stop; she didn't like one bit that Raghav was leaving party like this. But her hopes shattered when Raghav once again turned towards the door and walked away.

Somehow Kalpi had managed to free herself from Prem's hold made her way through the guests. She went outside to check if she could stop Raghav. But he had left, leaving her alone; just like that.

NEXT DAY, 1.20 P.M.: -

"I don't believe this; we get to meet now; two days after I asked to meet. Going by this speed and focus, we'll never be able to re-unite Raghav and Kalpi" sitting alone in a posh restaurant Sapna was blabbering. Frustrated and tired due to long wait, first to get this meeting fixed; and now to wait for the person she was supposed to meet, she was boiling inside. "And my wait is still not over, I am still waiting!" Sapna thought sarcastically for she'd been sitting at this table past since past twenty minutes.

"And I am so hungry too" Sapna said. "When will...?" She'd have continued with taking out her frustrations this way, had it not been for the voice which cut her blabbers. The one voice she was so used to talking now every other day and the voice, owner of which was to meet her now. Smiling and relieved that her torture is over Sapna glanced up.

"Thinking about me?" the voice drifted to her ears again. Sapna let out a breath of relief and extended her hand for a shake, "Hi Sammy, glad you came; at last!"

I hope that Kalpi approaches Raghav ..this 😕time ..cuz it's always been Raghav to come forward first
