Part 26
Arnav stood probed against his SUV as he waited for her. He looked at the candy-floss stall outside the college gate, and a small smile tugged at the corner of his lips. Life has taken a beautiful turn with her arrival. Her sweet enchanting face has given a new meaning to his music. He, who hates waiting for anyone, can now wait hours for her if at the end he would get to see her beautiful heart-melting smile, reserved only for him. His heart which never feels anything for anyone, comes to life as soon as she keeps her soft hand on his heart. His dull house starts vibrating with colors of happiness as her tickling giggles echoes there. He is in love with her. He loves to be in love with her.
He lifted his eyes as soon as a sniffing sound reached his ears. He stood straight with a frown marking his face. "Sonu, what happened?"
Khushi cleaned her nose with her hanky and sniffed again. "Arnav ji,... Acchhu! ...I am sorry .. Hume sardi ho gayi hai ... Achhu! ...I am sorry .."
Arnav smiled at her nose which has turned all pink with the scrubbing. He opened the front door for her. "Get inside..."
Khushi nodded and sat inside.
Arnav closed the door and walked across to take the wheel. He saw her resting her head against the seat and eyes closed. He shifted little close and touched her forehead.
"Khushi, you are warm.." Arnav said, panicked.
Khushi shook her head and opened her eyes. "It's just the cold, Arnav ji ...Don't worry.."
"Should we see Doctor, Khushi?" Arnav asked softly, caressing her hair.
"No, I am fine, Arnav ji ... start the car please, I just need a cup of hot tea.." she smiled.
Arnav reciprocated the smile and leaned in to peck her lips.
"No, don't kiss..." she pushed him away.
"What? Why?"
"You will catch cold too... it's infectious..."
Ignoring her, he cupped her face and kissed her lips.
"It will be good right? Both of us with pink nose.."
Khushi giggled.
Parking the car, Arnav got out of the car and opened the door for Khushi. Not giving her a chance to put her feet down, he scooped her in his arms.
"I can walk, Arnav ji ..." Khushi circled her arms around his neck.
"But you are not well, so let me carry you .." he winked at her.
Khushi smiled and rested her head on his shoulder.
Arnav took her to his room and placed her on the bed.
"I will ask the maid to make tea for you, OK?" Arnav asked as he sat beside her.
Khushi nodded her head.
"Anything else?"
Khushi was about to shake her head in denial, but her eyes landed on the guitar resting on the recliner. She looked at him and smiled. "And song?"
Arnav chuckled. "Why not.." He got up. "But first let me get you your tea..."
After few minutes of waiting, Khushi saw him entering the room with a mug in his hand. He came and sat beside her. Khushi dragged herself in the sitting position.
"Here's your Tea, Sonu ..."
"Thank you .." she took the mug from him. "Now sing..."
"OK... which song you want me to sing?" Arnav asked as he stood up to collect the guitar.
"Which one?" Khushi thought .. "Something nice .. slow ... " she looked at him, her eyes shining with tease. "Something describing me in your life? Something romantic?" She wiggled her eyebrows at him.
Arnav sat on the recliner, positioning the guitar in his arms. "OK...let me think ..." Arnav thought for few seconds before getting up and smiling at her.
"Here you go ... " he sat in front of her. Leaning, he kissed her cheek and started.
"Dheere Dheereee... Dil Mein Mere
Aa Gayi Toh Cha Gayi Teri Aarzoo
Raahon Mein Nighahoo Mein
Mere Char Su, Ab Hai Tu Hi Tu"
Khushi placed the mug aside and inched close to him, smiling.
Arnav kept the guitar beside him and got up, pulling her with him. Keeping her hand on his shoulder, he pulled her close by her waist.
"Saason Mein Jasbaat Ki Aandhiyaan Hain
Dhadkan Mein Bhuchal Jaise
Kaisa Junoon, Kaisi Dewaangi Hai,
Ab Main Kahoon Haal Kasie
Mera Dil, Meri Jaan, Mera Saara Jahan, Saara Armaan Tu Hai"
Khushi kept her head on his chest, hugging him close.
"Dheere Dheere Dil Mein Mere
Aa Gayi Toh Cha Gayi Teri Aarzoo
Raahon Mein Nighahoo Mein
Mere Char Su, As Hai Tu Hi Tu"
Arnav pulled back and looked down at her. Taking her hand in his, he knelt in front of her.
"Dil Ki Hai Kya Dastaan Yeh
Sunane Mehbooba Main Aa Raha Hoon
Jo Khwaab Dekha Hain, Tujhko Dekhane,
Woh Khwaab Main La Raha Hoon,
Chup Kyon Main Rahon Ab Kyon Na Kahon
Mere Dil Ka Sukoon Tu Hai"
Khushi giggled and knelt in front on him, too.
"Dheere Dheere Dil Mein Mere
Aa Gayi Toh Cha Gayi Teri Aarzoo
Raahon Mein Nighahoo Mein
Mere Char Su, As Hai Tu Hi Tu"
Khushi leaned and kissed him before hugging him, holding him close.
"I love you, Arnav ji ..."
Khushi smiled in a trance, reminiscing the beautiful memories. They were so much in love. They were so happy. And then things happened which she don't want to remember. Would she be selfish in wishing for those moments to come back? Would she be selfish in wanting to be happy again? Would she be betraying Rudra if she wants to be happy again? She buried her face in the pillow as all these thoughts clouded her head, making it ache.
Khushi lifted her head after sometimes as she felt some weight on her shoulder to only see her daughter resting her tiny head on her shoulder. She smiled, but the smile vanished as soon as she saw the occupant beside her.
"Arnav ji?"
Arnav's eyes shifted from Samaira to Khushi. He had entered the room some minutes ago, but she didn't noticed him. She was immersed in some thoughts. First he saw her smiling, then frowning and then all he saw on her face was pain.
"What were you thinking, Khushi?" Arnav asked as she sat on the bed.
Khushi looked at him as he asked that. "I...nothing... Aap yaha?"
"Yes ...I was missing my smoochie teddy bears..." Arnav looked down and smiled at his Son who was cuddled on his chest. "And you too ..." he looked in her eyes. She came here because she thought she had hurt him, and he was no way going to allow her to do that.
"I ... I am sorry ...They were missing you too ..." Khushi said, not meeting his eyes.
"Khushi, I am not hurt , or upset... Please don't think that way ... All I want is your and babies' happiness ..."
Khushi looked at him--The changed man. Not the man who would get mad at any tiny reason, but the man who listens to her babies' incoherent blabbering with utmost concentration. Not the man who never thinks about anyone else, but the man who always thinks about her and her babies. Not the man who forces his decision on everyone, but the one who respects her feelings. She... she wants to forget everything and lead a normal life. And he is helping her get one. Then why is she denying it? Rudra always wanted her to be happy, then how would she be betraying him if she wants to be happy? She ... She should stop thinking like that. She should stop!
"Khushi?"
"Uhh?" Khushi looked in at him ,who now sat in front of her.
"Khushi? What are you thinking?" Arnav asked, concerned.
Khushi shook her head. "Nothing ...You be with them, I will bring something for you ..." she got up and hurried out of the room.
Arnav sighed and looked at his daughter, who was already staring at him. He smiled and laid Ayaan beside Samaira. Lying down, he probed on his elbow, caging both of them beneath him. "Missed me, really? How much did you guys missed me? Don't lie, OK. You both were sleeping peacefully when I came here, when I didn't get an ounce of sleep. So I missed you guys more, understood?" he wiggled at eyebrow at them, making them smile. "Next time when Mamma decides to leave me, stop her. Don't tag along, understood, you two little cutie pies?" Arnav rubbed his beard against their cheeks, making them giggle.
Arnav smiled and nuzzled their stomach, making them roll and giggle.
"Aapki coffee .."
Arnav looked back to see Khushi standing with a mug. Nodding his head, he got up and took the mug from her. "Thank you"
Khushi sat beside the babies and smiled at them as they crawled towards her.
"Time to take bath, sweethearts.."
"You need help, Khushi?" Arnav asked as he kept the empty mug on the bedside table.
"No, Amma told she wants to help ..."
"OK" Arnav looked at the kids. "I guess I should be leaving then .."
Khushi looked at him as he kissed the kids and collected his coat from the bed. Waving his hand at the kids, he turned to leave.
"Arnav ji.." Khushi called suddenly.
Arnav turned to look at her.
"Who ...hum ..." she got up, fumbling with her words. "Aap shaam ko aayenge hume ghar wapas le jaane?"
Arnav stood there for few seconds, processing her words. A slow smile paved its way on his lips soon.
"Ofcourse, Khushi ..." he walked towards her and cupped her face, making her look at him. "Main zaroor aaunga " he kissed her forehead soundly. And giving a last look at his family, he exited the room, feeling too happy.
Hope you all liked it!
