Chapter 2.2

Recap: Manik pretends to be nice to Nandu. Dhruv gets annoyed, and reveals the truth about Alya and Armaan to Manik. Manik feels bad. Nandini ignored Manik.

Word Count: 716 words

Nandini walked into the office, ignoring the looks of everyone else. She knew they would stare, in fact she expected it. Whether they appreciated her new look or not, she didn't care. She did this for herself, and she felt confident.

She made her way to her desk and sat down. She immediately started working on the files she had been assigned, while getting her notes for today's meeting ready. Manik stayed true to his word, and didn't treat her like a broken doll. He did cut back on the amount of work he gave her, but he didn't treat her like she as walking on glass. It was a change for him, and not matter how hard he tried, Nandini wouldn't budge. She was still adamant on hating him...little did he know, that Ms. Gupta did not hate him at all. Nandini sighed, she couldn't wait till Alya woke up, and she could quit this job.

"Look who it is, Miss Behen ji," said a sickly not-so-sweet voice. Nandini rolled her eyes, and continued working. "Come on Nands, new look? Well I hate to say it's not working for you. No matter what you wear, you'll still be a behen ji."

"Enough Soha," Manik commanded. This made Nandini look up, and catch Manik's gaze. He looked her up and down, and his gaze made Nandini blush.

"But Manik..."

"I said enough. Leave her alone. She looks fine, good in fact," Manik said, and Nandini blushed even more. The ghost of a smile was left on her face. Soha huffed and stormed off. "Finally she left." Nandini couldn't help but let a laugh bubble out of her. Manik smiled hearing her laugh. It was a beautiful sound. Nandini blushed and looked down, continue to do her work. Manik smiled and re-entered his office. He sat down, and watched Nandini work diligently. He finally looked away and started on his own work. Suddenly his door opened, and Nandini walked in.

"Here you go sir! Remember you have that meeting in 10 minutes," Nandini said, handing him some files.

"You can call me Manik," he said.

"Not thanks sir," she said abruptly and walked back out. Manik sighed and got up. He walked out after her.

"I want you to come to the meeting to take notes."

"Okay, sir." Manik rolled his eyes and motioned for her to go in front of him.

Manik and Nandini entered the elevator and were in silent as the elevator moved. Suddenly lights flashed and the elevator stopped.

"What the hell?!" Manik cursed. The lights flickered once more, and suddenly it was dark. Manik heard a thump next to him. He looked to his left and saw the files in Nandini's hands on the floor, and Nandini in the corner on the floor. "Nandini! Nandini, it's okay. Don't worry!"

He quickly went forward to her, and took her face in his hands.

"Calm down. It'll be fine."

"Ma"Manik, I'm claustrophobic. I can't stand places like this," Nandini rasped out, through her breaths. Manik took a deep breath and looked straight into her eyes.

"I'm here Nandini. I won't let anything happen. You're going to be fine. Calm down, and take deep breaths. Okay?" Manik said. Nandini latched her eyes on to his, and they looked at each other. They stayed like that for some time before the lights flickered back on, and the lift resumed moving. Nandini suddenly became aware, and quickly stood up. Manik almost fell back, due to Nandini moving so fast.

"Thanks," she said abruptly. Manik stood back up, and as soon as the door was opened, Nandini rushed out.

"Nandu! Are you okay?" Dhruv asked, rushing to Nandini's side. "I know you're claustrophobic. Are you alright?"

"I'm fine Dhruv," Nandini said. Dhruv hugged Nandini tightly, and Manik felt his fist clenching.

"Baby!"

"Oh god!" Manik whispered.

"Manik! I've been calling you all this time. We're supposed to go out for lunch," Soha said. Nandini and Dhruv turned to look at them.

"Oh yeah. Let's go. Wherever you want to go," Manik said. He put his arm around Soha's waist and looked back at Nandini. He couldn't place the look on her face, it kind of looked like... jealousy.

Precap: Nandini continues to act coldly towards Manik. Manik can't take it. MaNan get close. Soha and Dhruv get suspicious of MaNan. Dhruv and Nandini get bad news about Alya's condition.
