Chapter 41
"Thank you doctor. Please keep me posted should anything else arise," Maya says into the phone. Disconnecting the phone she quickly rushes about, preparing Avni's day bag. Rushing towards the dining area she calls out, "Sam, hunny..." Grabbing Avni, she continues, "am rushing to the hospital. Something has come up."
Racing along the hospital corridor, Maya wonders what she will do or say. Reaching Ragav's hospital room, she stops, curses softly, thinking, "I am here already." Looking helplessly at Avni, she murmurs, "has my angel got any ideas." Avni smiles as she traces her mother's features with her hands. Smiling, Maya says, "I have an idea. Let's hope it works."
Rushing in, Maya quickly places Avni on Ragav's chest and rushes out of the hospital room, saying, "got to make make.. Urgent." Ragav stares after Maya in disbelief. Then stares at Avni, whom he was clutching in a death grip. Releasing his hold, he mutters, "thank God for my reflexes. She could have dropped her. Crazy woman," he adds shaking his head.
Maya leans by the wall next to the door, her hands shaking, thinking, "thank God for Ragav's quick reflexes. Avni would have..." She gulps, not wanting to continue with her thoughts. Once calm and collected, she opens the door slowly and peeks through the small gap anxiously. Moments later she smiles as she watches Ragav interact with her daughter. Relieved to see him bonding with her. Knowing that he needed more time with her, she heads off towards the cafeteria for some coffee, telling herself that half an hour was enough for Avni to work her magic.
Taking a few steps towards the cafeteria, Maya stops and stares at the woman rushing towards her. She quickly turns towards Ragav's room door, ensuring herself that it is shut. She turns back towards the woman, frowning as she says, "Miss Kapoor... Lost are you?" Pakhi falters, suddenly no longer confident over her findings, fear re-enforcing over the consequences her family might have to face, over what she might have to face. Hesitantly she says, "Maya ma'am, I apologise for dropping in on you like this, but I need to..." Worried that Ragav would find the daughter of his nemesis here, Maya interrupts Pakhi, saying, "whatever it is can wait."
"But...," Pakhi replies. "Gosh Pakhi. Will you stop. Whatever it is, we shall discuss at the office! LEAVE! NOW!" Maya snaps. Watching Pakhi walk away, Maya massages her temples, muttering, "need my caffine dose for the day."
After sips of coffee, as the caffine works it magic, Maya wonders why Pakhi would come to the hospital. Feeling slightly guilty for her rude behaviour, she calls Sammy. "Hi Hun. Have you spoken to Pakhi?" Maya asks. Sammy replies, "hi baby. All good your end? Ragav?" Maya smiles into the phone, replies, "all good. Avni is babysitting him." "Is that right," Sam replies, chuckling.
"Babes. Pakhi," Maya says.
"What about her?" Sammy asks.
"Have you spoken to her today?" Maya asks.
"Nope. In fact she called in sick." Sam replies.
"That's odd," Maya replies with a frown, continues, "she was here at the hospital... And I told her to leave."
"Oh gosh Hun. She looked so anxious and worried... And I was so rude. I was so worried Ragav would see her... That I did not bother to hear her out," Maya says with worry, adding, "I hope she is okay. I feel so sorry for her. Her whole world is upside down... And to top it off, I don't know how Ragav will react to us hiring her."
"Don't worry. Once Ragav finds out that she helped us by providing the court with the crucial evidence over the attempt they made on his life and the fraud they had committed years ago. He will be okay. Eventually." Sammy says.
"True. I can't believe she is a Kapoor by blood. She has definitely not taken after them. She chose truth and right over her family. She knew she was going to lose her father's empire if he was arrested and yet she never hesitated. In one move she sealed her fate... Lost her wealth, her social standing, everything. It takes guts and a lot of self belief," Maya ends up saying with admiration.
"Let me call and find out. Speak soon. Mwah," Maya says, ending the call.
