Oh bless and I can see lots of questions being raised... Hence writing out the next chapter sooner than planned.
Chapter 40
Disoriented, Ragav asks, "where am I?" The nurse replies, "Apollo Hospital." His memories race towards that fatal night when he was last here. His heart rate and pressure spike up... The machine monitoring his vitals start beeping. The nurse stirs into action, injecting him with a sedative to calm him down.
Carrying her seven month daughter in her arms, Maya kicks Sammy in the shins to wake him up. Glaring at him, she says, "seriously. Do you think I sent you here to sleep?" Grinning, sammy rubs his shin, then stretches his arms and yawn... Taking his daughter into his arms, he says, "I missed you angel. Hope you troubled mummy lots last night... Did you give her another sleepless night... Did you..." His little angel smiles in response. Sammy chuckles, nodding his head, continues, "well done... You are papa's girl."
Leaving father and daughter to bond, Maya walks up to Ragav, strokes his hair, waiting for him to wake up... Knowing that he would have lots of questions. Ragav wakes up and the first thing he sees is Maya, sitting by his side. He frowns, wondering why not Kalpi. He tries to speak, but Maya stops him, saying, "I know you have lots of questions. I will answer them all. Just relax. You have been in coma for the past ten months." "Kalpi?" Ragav asks as he looks around the hospital room.
Maya frowns at the question, confused momentarily then brightens up and says, "of course she is here by your side." Anxious to see her, Ragav asks, "where?" Maya smiles and says, "on the left of your bedside." He looks to his left, frowning as he does not see her... His gaze falls on the side table... He catches his breath... Shocked... There on the side table is a framed picture of Kalpi with a garland of flowers across it."
Hiding his fear with anger, he snaps, "what is the meaning of this?" Confused, Maya asks, "what do you mean?" "Why the flowers?" Ragav barks, "she is not dead."
Taking his hand into hers, Maya says imploringly, "please calm down Ragav." Seeing Ragav glare at her angrily, Maya takes a deep breath and continues, "Ragav there was a car accident. A hit and run. Kalpi died..."
Pulling his hand out of her grasp, Ragav interrupts, "stop lying. Sammy found her." Taken aback by his statement, Maya turns to look at Sammy, who is equally shocked. Ragav continues, "I shall never forget the date I got my Kalpi back. The 9th of August."
Hearing this date, tears fall unchecked from Maya's eyes, she says, "Ragav that is the date an attempt was made on your life. It is the date you slipped into coma."
Sensing strong emotions in the room, Maya's daughter decides to make her presence felt. She wails loudly, not wanting to be left out. Ragav freezes, turns towards the baby's cries and says as he gasps, "avantika... Avni." Maya smiles as she wipes her tears and says, "I knew you could hear me. I knew... I knew..."
Ragav stares at Kalpi's picture... His mind racing to memories of them together... Of her laughter... Of her pregnant... Of her forgiving him... Of her telling him how much she loved him... Of how her eyes shone with love for him... He closes his eyes as tears fall... His heart piercing with pain... He mumbles, "none of it was real." His heart silently screaming, "Kalpi!"
His eyes shut, he says, "I need to be alone." Once alone, he takes her picture, slowly removes the flowers, caressing the picture lovingly, he places it on his chest... Where his heart lay and whispers, "for me you are alive. I want to come back to you. I have nothing to live for. I want to come back."
Picking the hospital phone, he asks for the doctor. When the doctor arrives, he says, "I understand that there are situations when doctors put patients into medically induced coma." Not understanding where Ragav is going with this, the doctor replies affirmatively. Ragav responds, "that is good. I would like you to put me into a medically induced coma."
