Note: So I decided that I'm going to start giving recaps and precaps for my chapters, so that my readers can have a little preview into the next chapter, and recap what happened in the last chapter.

Chapter 2.1

Recap: Soha's entry, and she caused trouble for Nandu. Dhruv berates Soha and stands up to Manik, for Nandu. Manik vows to make Nandu's life hell. Manik saves Nandu from guys.

Word Count: 1,641 words

Nandini sat at her desk, working hard on the files that she had been assigned. They were double yesterday's workload, and you couldn't even see the top of her head from in front of her desk. She sighed as she strained to look at the tiny words typed on the document. She had been up late last night finishing yesterday's work load, and she didn't know how she would get today's done. She had barely slept in two days. Suddenly a shadow loomed over her, blocking the light. It could only be one person.

"Yes sir," she said sighing, and looking up.

"Do you want me to take some of the files and help you?" he asked in a voice that sounded much nicer than she had ever heard him talk to anyone.

"Uh...what?" she asked, completely fazed by his question.

"I said, would you like me to help you with some of those files?" he asked, again. He wasn't even looking at her, but behind her. She raised her eyebrows.

"Uhm...yes?" she asked, more than answered. She quickly glanced behind her, and realized that Armaan was watching them from a distance. She sighed...of course Manik wasn't voluntarily asking to help. She rolled her eyes and looked back up at Manik, who finally decided to look down at her. "Actually, I'll do them myself. You already have a magazine to run, this is my job, I can do it." Manik was surprised for a minute, but then smirked at her, as if he know she was going to say that. Once again Nandini rolled her eyes and turned back down to read the tiny print. Manik walked back into his office, where Soha was waiting for him. Soha was vile, and Nandini absolutely loathed her. Nandini put her head down on her desk for a minute, and let her fatigue consume her.

BANG!

She quickly jumped in her chair, and looked up.

"Sleeping on the job huh?" Manik asked.

"S-sorry sir. Won't happen again," Nandini mumbled sleepily. Manik just smirked and pointed to the pile of files he had dropped on her desk. She sighed and rubbed her forehead. Manik walked back into his office. Nandini read the fine print, but once again was interrupted by another shadow, this one was shorter.

"Coffee?" Dhruv asked.

"You're god!" Nandini exclaimed, happily accepting the mug from him.

"No need to praise me, I already know," Dhruv said, laughing. Nandini smiled, and watched him Manik's office. "Manik, we need to talk. Soha, get out."

"Excuse me, who the-" Soha started.

"Out Soha," Manik said. Soha looked at him. "Now."

"Fine," she huffed. "I'll see you tomorrow then." She quickly exited the office, glared at Nandini and left the building, which Nandini was openly happy about. No one in the office liked Soha...except for Manik, but they were sure he was under some love spell.

"What is it, Dhruv?" asked Manik.

"You need to stop."

"Stop what?" Manik asked confused.

"Doing this to Nandini. She's a good girl, and you're ruining her life," Dhruv said.

"I'm sick of you defending her Dhruv. She signed up to be my assistant, I didn't want her to do this," Manik said, annoyed.

"Neither did she Manik. She didn't choose to be your assistant either," Dhruv snapped at him. Manik looked at him confused. "She was forced to do this."

"What do you mean?" Manik asked. Dhruv sighed...it was time to tell Manik the truth.

"Nandini is Alya's sister," Dhruv admitted.

"What?" Manik asked.

"Manik...I've been hiding the truth from you for the past week. Alya was in accident, she's currently is a comatose state," Dhruv said, depressingly. Manik's eyes widened.

"Oh my god! Dhruv...I'm so sorry," Manik said.

"So am I. I may have lost her...if it wasn't for Armaan bhai."

"What do you mean?"

"He paid for her operation and blood transfusion. It was too expensive, and I had to ask him for money because Nandini and Chachi couldn't pay such an amount."

"What does this have to do with Nandini working her?" Manik asked, wanting to know the full truth.

"Armaan bhai said he'd only pay, if Nandini became your assistant," Dhruv finally admitted to Manik. Manik's jaw basically dropped. His heart stopped for a second. His gaze moved to Nandini, who was struggling to keep her eyes open, while reading the large pile of work he gave her. His gaze softened immediately.

"Why would she agree to that?" he asked.

"Because she loved her sister and would do anything for her. She's going through all of this for Alya, Mani. She didn't want to work here, she just wants her sister to get better," Dhruv explained. Manik sighed, and exited his office. Dhruv followed him out and watched him stop in front of Nandini's desk. Once again Nandini's head popped up, and was surprised to see Manik looking at her with a soft expression on his face.

"Yes...sir?" she asked.

"Let me take some of those files," he said, sounding genuine. Nandini was confused, and looked around to see if Armaan was still around.

"It's okay, Armaan's not here. You don't have to pretend," she said.

"I'm not pretending. I'll do some of them myself," he said.

"Uh...what are you doing Manik?" Nandini asked. Manik sighed, why is she so difficult?

"I know Nandini," Manik said, sighing, ignoring the looks Dhruv was sending him.

"Know...about what?" Nandini asked confused.

"About Alya and the deal," Manik admitted. Nandini's eyes widened, and she jumped out of her chair to glare at Dhruv.

"I told you not to say anything. You promised you wouldn't!" Nandini snapped at him.

"Nandini, I can't see him treat you this badly! I did this for you!" Dhruv said.

"I don't need or want anybody's pity, Dhruv! If he's nice to me, it's because he feels bad for me. Not because he wants to. I don't need help. I just want to do my job, and get my sister back!" Nandini exclaimed. She grabbed the files and put them in her bag. "I'm going home to finish my work. I'm taking an early leave, sir." And with that she turned and left. Both boys looked after her, with guilty expressions on her face.

Nandini waited for an auto. All she wanted to do now was go see Alya. She was annoyed, she didn't want pity or sympathy. She just wanted Alya back. Yes she was sick of Manik and his taunts, but she rather have him yell at her then treat her like a doll about to break. Not to mention the weird feelings she had around him, and how she hated the way Soha looked at him or touched him. She sighed as no auto was stopping for her. Suddenly a car stopped in front of her. She gasped and jumped back. The door opened and inside sat Manik. She glared at him.

"Please get in. I'll give you a ride," Manik said.

"No Manik. I don't want this sympathy ride," Nandini said.

"It's not sympathy okay. Yes I feel bad for what I did, but I'm not going to treat you like a broken doll," he said. She looked at him, how the hell did he know that's how I felt?

"No thanks, I'll get an auto," Nandini said, and was about to walk away, when Manik called her name.

"Nandini! Get in! You won't get an auto. Get in, or I'll fire you," Manik said. Of course he would resort to blackmail. Nandini sighed and got in the car. She glared ahead, and ignored Manik. Manik sighed and drove her to the hospital. Nandini got down as soon as they reached, ignoring Manik. Manik silently followed her, till the room. He watched her from the outside, and heard her talking to Alya.

"Alya...I miss you so much. I wish you were here, you would know what to do. Manik found out about the deal. He's being nicer to me now...but I don't want his sympathy. You know me, na? I hate sympathy and pity. I just wanted to treated fairly. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad that he has realized that he made my life hell for no reason, but...I don't want someone to be nice to me out of sympathy or pity. I already have weird feelings about him, if he starts being nice to me, something may actually come out of those feelings..." Nandini said to Alya, unknown to the fact that Manik could hear everything. Subconsciously, Manik smiled hearing that Nandini had weird feelings' about him. As he realized Nandini was about to leave, he quickly stepped away from the door. Nandini stepped out and saw Manik waiting for her. She continue to ignore him and walked towards the exit. She asked him to drop her at the mall next.

"The mall?" Manik asked.

"Yes, you know that huge building that people go to. Sometimes you eat, watch a movie, shop," Nandini snapped sarcastically. Manik almost laughed, despite the fact she was snapping at him. Suddenly her phone rang, and she picked it up. "Yes Dhruv, I am still mad at you. No I'm not going to ditch you. Yeah, I'll be there soon." Manik felt a pang when he realized that she was going to meet Dhruv.

"You're going to meet Dhruv?" Manik asked. Nandini looked at him.

"Yeah, so?" Nandini asked.

"Nothing, just noticed that you guys are really close," he said, nervously. Nandini raised her eyebrows.

"He's in love with my sister. They've been together for two years now. He's my best friend. Yeah, we're close," Nandini said, like she was talking to a child. Manik was surprised. He never thought Nandini could be this sarcastic. He was seeing a whole new side of her.

And he was liking every minute of it.

Precap: Soha teases Nandini, and Manik defends her. MaNan gets stuck in a lift. Nandini continues to ignore Manik. MaNan get jealous.

Awesome..interesting story..manan are inching closer unknown to each other.. I've read your earlier version for a couple of chapters but lost track of it..when I started to read this story I remembered the old one..can I get the link to the old version if it's ok with you..waiting to read more of this story please continue soon :)
