Episode 10: Nikki's Bad Side
It was a regular school day at Dhingra High School. In the afternoon, Riddhi, Aditya, Nikkita, and Disha were all working in the Jungle Jail. "What the heck is this?!" Nikkita questioned her client, Raju Singh. Raju was on probation for scribbling marker all over the boys bathroom on the first floor. And Nikkita was the one to deal with him.
"What did I do wrong?!"
"I told you to clean the mirrors till their spot clean!"
"I did!"
"Oh really?! Then why are your hands spotless?!"
"You don't trust me?!"
"Nice try! Now go and get the job done or do I have to come with you?!"
"No, no! I'll go!"
"Good! I'll be back in an hour to see if its done."
Raju nodded his head and headed out of the Jungle Jail, while Nikkita drew out a file folder, marking it inside. "What are you doing?" Aditya asked Nikkita.
"Adding an extra week of probation," NIkkita replied. "You can't trust these monkeys!"
"Oh, so Raju is a monkey?" Riddhi asked.
"Yeah, and this is second time on probation. But with Nikki around, he'll be taken cared of," Aditya replied. "How's Luv doing?"
"He should still be working in the library," Riddhi replied. "I assigned him to alphabetize the books in the non-fiction section."
"Does anyone have marinara sauce?!" Disha asked as she ate from her box of chicken tenders.
"Disha, quit eating on the job!" Nikkita shouted.
"Hey! I will eat as much as I want!" Disha retorted.
"Oh right! That's how you'll soon end up having the size of a pig!" Nikkita rolled her eyes.
"WHY YOU?!" Disha yelled. "SAY ONE MORE THING ABOUT MY WEIGHT AND I'LL-"
"Dish! Fish!" Aditya said as he then popped some Swedish Fish into Disha's mouth, shuting her up.
"That never fails, does it?!" Riddhi smiled.
After a while, Riddhi, Aditya, Nikkita, and Disha left the jungle jail and headed down the hallway. Just then, Luv was running towards them. "Now you decide to come?!" Riddhi asked Luv in an irritated tone.
"Do you know how many books are in the non-fiction section?! I thought I'd die by the end of it!" Luv exclaimed.
"Well that's what you get for spray painting Monty Sharma's gym clothes!" Riddhi rolled her eyes.
"Hey Luv!" a voice exclaimed.
"No! It can't be who I think it is!" Luv said with a worried face.
He turned around to see Cookie standing right at the other end of the hall. The others were in shock, but mostly Luv and Riddhi. "Oh Luv!" Cookie exclaimed as she dashed off towards Luv, giving him a big teddy bear hug.
"Cookie?!" Luv replied. "What the heck are you doing here?!"
"Silly! You would've known if you answered my calls! I finally got to transfer to Dhingra!" Cookie exclaimed.
"And why would you do that?!" Luv asked.
"Don't worry! I know Riddhi's still your girlfriend! I'm not going to get between you two!" Cookie said.
"Oh God." Riddhi said quietly.
"Besides, I found a new true love!" Cookie squealed.
"I wonder who the unlucky guy is." Nikkita told Riddhi.
Cookie then went up to Aditya and gave him a big hug. "Its you, Adi!" Cookie exclaimed as she hugged Aditya tightly. And this shocked the others, especially Nikkita.
"Oh Adi! I knew you'd be the one for me!" Cookie squealed. "That's why I transferred here! After hearing about you winning the Mumbai Science Fair, I knew you'd be perfect for me! I love the smart types!"
"Is she serious?!" Disha asked as she ate from a bag of chips.
"How'd she go from being in love with Luv to taking a whole 360 degree turn and falling for Adi?!" Riddhi asked.
"Hey!" Luv exclaimed.
"You're pretty silent, Nikki." Disha said, looking over to Nikkita who remained still with an appalled look on her face.
Nikkita turned around, clenching her fists in anger over the situation. "Come, Adi! Let's go to class together!" Cookie exclaimed as she dashed off down the hall, bringing Aditya with her. "I made sure that I have the same classes as you do!"
"Yes! Cookie is off my back! Finally!" Luv exclaimed.
"Does this mean I don't have to act like your girlfriend anymore?" Riddhi asked.
"No! You want her to come back, crawling to me?!" Luv asked Riddhi.
"Its not like I care." Riddhi shrugged her shoulders.
"Someone's still pretty silent there." Disha said.
"You okay, Nikki?" Riddhi asked.
"Me?!" Nikkita asked as she turned around to the others. "Oh yeah! I'm perfectly fine! Couldn't be better!"
"Okay then," said Riddhi. "You ready to go to class?"
"I'll catch up later! You guys go ahead!" Nikkita exclaimed.
"Okay. See you later." Disha told Nikkita as she, Riddhi, and Luv left down the hall.
Once they left, Nikkita's face burned red with fury. She tried to calm down. Cool down, Nikki! You're better than that! I'm sure having this Cookie girl around won't be as big of a problem as it seems! Nikkita told herself as she tried to cool off. After she calmed down, she went ahead and walked on her own down the hallway.
Next class was the class the whole gang was in...English. Riddhi and Nikkita sat next to each other while Luv and Disha sat behind them. Aditya sat at his own seat. But not from today. Cookie went ahead and sat right next to him. "Are you sure you can sit here?" Aditya asked Cookie.
"Of course! I made sure that we sit next to each other in all of our classes!"
"So you can copy off of my work?"
"HA! You're so funny, Adi Pie!"
"Adi Pie?!" Luv said, looking like he wanted to throw up.
"If she says it one more time, I'll make a pie out of her face!" Nikkita said as she held onto her pencil tightly.
"What's with her?" Riddhi asked Disha in a whispering tone as she turned to her.
"Don't know," Disha said as she ate from a box of chicken nuggets. "You got ketchup?!"
"No!" Riddhi exclaimed.
"Good afternoon, class," Mr. Dubey said as he entered the classroom. "Disha, how many times do I have to tell you not to eat in the classroom?!"
"Do you want some?!" Disha asked as she offered her box of chicken nuggets.
"Heck yes! The food in the teachers lounge sucks!" Mr. Dubey exclaimed as he dashed to Disha's desk and took some chicken nuggets from the box.
He then went to the front of the classroom while the students look on. Except Nikkita, who was constantly eyeing Aditya and Cookie. "All right, class! We're going to be talking about Romeo and Juliet! Now we've finished reading the play yesterday. So who can give a brief summary of the story for us?" Mr. Dubey asked the class. "Anyone?" While students tried to look away so they wouldn't get called on, Mr. Dubey looked at Nikkita, who was still looking at Aditya and Cookie. "Nikki!" Mr. Dubey called on Nikkita as she turned to Mr. Dubey. "How about you take your eyes off of whatever you're staring at and pay attention?! Give us a summary please."
Nikkita stood up from her seat, taking a deep breath. "Boy loves girl. Girl loves boy. Both die. And why do they die?!" Nikkita exclaimed. "Because they were so into their puppy love, when they don't even realize what's right in front of their freakin' faces! And let me say, if I met such two in real life, I wouldn't spare them! Especially that Juliet! She is one cunning little witch I tell you! She-"
"Okay, okay! I asked for a summary, not a soap opera!" Mr. Dubey rolled his eyes. "Sit down." Nikkita grunted as she sat back down at her seat. Cookie tapped on Aditya's shoulder and asked, "Is she on drugs?!"
"HEY!" Nikkita shouted at Cookie, hearing what she said. "If anyone here is on drugs, it must be you! You're the one hanging onto him like a lost puppy!"
"Nikki! I've had it with your behavior today!" Mr. Dubey told Nikkita. "Detention for you! Tomorrow after school!"
"WHAT?!" Nikkita cried.
"Serves you right! And by the way, I'm sure that's not your natural hair color!" Cookie told Nikkita, referring to her maroon colored streaks in her hair.
The next day, Riddhi and Nikkita were walking into lunch and the two of them sat down at their usual table where Disha was already seated, eating a double cheeseburger, a box of french fries, a side of chicken tenders, and strawberry milk. Riddhi and Nikkita raised their eyebrows at Disha. "What?!" Disha asked.
"I shouldn't be surprised at this point." Riddhi rolled her eyes as she and Nikkita sat down.
"Have you cooled down yet, Nikki?!" Disha asked Nikkita.
"Yeah. That was a bit out of character for you yesterday," Riddhi said. "And you even got detention."
"I'm fine! Absolutely fine!" Nikkita exclaimed as she took out her lunchbox and took out a bag of chips. "Its not my fault the whole world is INCOMPETENT!"
Just then, Aditya and Cookie sat down at the table, surprising the others. "Oh, Cookie! You're sitting here!" Riddhi said.
"Of course! Wherever Adi Pie goes, I go!" Cookie exclaimed.
"Pie! I could really use some pie!" Disha exclaimed.
"Yeah. Why don't we get some at the front?" Riddhi asked as she then turned to Nikkita, who was looking more angry than ever.
Nikkita held a handful of chips in her hand and crushed them in her fist as she watched Cookie brush Aditya's hair aside. She then dropped the chips on the table, and then grabbed the ketchup bottle that Disha had. And that was when she squirted the ketchup right on Cookie's hair, making her get up in horror while Aditya just looked surprised like Riddhi and Disha. "What the heck is wrong with you?! You ruined my hair!" Cookie cried.
"Serves you right! Oh! And by the way, I'm sure that's not your natural hair color!" Nikkita exclaimed as she stood up and threw the ketchup bottle on the floor.
"You! Young lady!" a voice called out.
Nikkita turned around, seeing a teacher talking right at her. And she gulped, knowing what was going to happen next.
After school, in the detention room, Nikkita had gone straight to her detention session, sitting with five other hooligans in the room. And because of the incident at lunch, Nikkita had to serve two extra hours. Right outside in the hallway, Riddhi was with Luv, watching Nikkita inside. "Why are we here?!" Luv asked Riddhi.
"I need to talk to Nikki. She's been acting really strange lately."
"Oh yeah! Yesterday was funny, man!"
"Shut up! Clearly she's upset about something."
Its weird. And I thought only I've been feeling a little different after the field trip. Guess Nikki is too. I mean...for me, I just feel slightly different around Luv. But its nothing drastic I believe, Riddhi thought to herself. She then turned around and was surprised at what she saw. Luv had gotten down before her on one knee. What the?! What's this?! Why is he on one knee?! He isn't...he wouldn't! Riddhi exclaimed as her face turned red. What the heck?! What's wrong with him?! We're only in high school! And no way in a million years would I want to end up with this guy! What do I do?! He's on his knees! Oh God!
"Will you-"
"NO! NO! AND HECK NO!"
"-tie my shoe?"
Riddhi was left in frozen tracks at what she heard. "Huh?!" Riddhi asked, feeling unsure of what she heard.
"I just asked you to tie my shoe. Get a grip!"
"YOU IDIOT! Do I look like your maid?!"
"What is with girls overreacting to everything?! You were acting as if I was going to propose to you or something!"
"Oh shut up! Even the thought of that is sick!"
"Now can you tell me why I'm here with you?! You can have your girl talk. Why do I have to be here?!"
"Would you rather be here or mopping the floors in the canteen?!"
"Oh whatever!"
Inside the detention room, Nikkita went up to the front desk and got a bathroom pass. As she left the classroom, Riddhi and Luv went up to her. "Ridz?! What are you doing here?" Nikkita asked Riddhi. "Especially with Monkey Boy over there?!"
"You know I don't have to be here!" Luv exclaimed. "After all, I'm not the one in detention!"
"I will put you in there with the other caged animals if you don't shut up!" Nikkita talked back.
"Okay what's with you?!" Riddhi asked Nikkita.
"What do you mean?!" Nikkita asked.
"Ever since Cookie came back, you've been acting really strange!" Riddhi exclaimed. "Like you can't stand it when you see Cookie and Adi together. I mean really...what was up with you in English?!"
"She went psycho, that's it!" Luv exclaimed.
"If I go psycho now, I will rip your head off!" Nikkita shouted.
"All right, all right! Relax!" Riddhi told Nikkita. "Just tell me what's going on."
"You wanna know?" Nikkita asked.
"Yes! I really want to!" Riddhi replied.
"Then Monkey Boy's gotta go!" Nikkita exclaimed.
"Awesome! I'm outta here!" Luv dashed off down the hall.
Riddhi rolled her eyes, seeing Luv run off. She then turned back to Nikkita. "Now go ahead...tell me what's wrong."
"Why do you care so much?!"
"Because you're my friend. In fact, my best friend. So I need to know what's bothering you."
Nikkita looked down, calm and quiet. She then took a deep breath and said, "I don't know to be honest. I've never been this upset before. Its just...me and Adi have always been close. And seeing that Cookie girl take all his attention...I mean...I don't know. She's always hanging around him! And its annoying!"
"Is that all?"
"Um...yeah."
"You sure?"
"Yeah. Why?"
"I mean...it just seems weird that you get that angry if its a matter of just you and Adi being friends."
"What are you saying?"
"I'm saying...maybe there's more to your frustration then you realize. I mean...some things we just don't get instantly. Maybe this is one of them. Think about it."
Nikkita didn't know what to say. With that, Riddhi left, leaving Nikkita behind, confused and puzzled.
