Sukirti Kandpal, the new Dilliwali girl
Sukirti Kandpal, who was last seen on the controversial reality show Bigg Boss 8, is back to fiction shows. The TV actress is playing the lead protagonist in &TV's new show Dilli Wali Thakur Girls. The show, which has gone on-air last week, is adapted from the novel, The Pricey Thakur Girls by Anuja Chauhan. The actress sounds quite kicked about it. "We have had films adapted from novels but not TV serials. So, Dilli Wali Thakur Girls is a very interesting show," she says.
According to Sukirti, the show is quite different from all the other shows on television. "It's quite a realistic story and audiences can relate to it," she adds.
Interestingly, Sukirti feels her on-screen character Debjani is quite similar to her real self. "Just like her, I keep goofing up, bumping into things, and also believe in love," she says.
But it's the love for animals that Sukirti thinks is the most common trait between her reel and real personas. She says that her mother sometimes calls her crazy because of her immense love for animals. "While I was shooting my last show, I had got 15 dogs home. I nursed them, took care of them and got them adopted by good families," she says.
Ask her if Bigg Boss 8 has helped her bag more work, like it happened with some of her co-contestants (for eg, Gautam Gulati) and she admits, "Honestly, nothing has changed post the show. People noticed me for my work and not for the controversies and drama I can create. I went on the show because I was already known. "Yes, it's great that I got the chance to be a part of this mother of all reality shows'. It's helped me retain my image or how I am as a person because I was very real on the show."
Never mind acting offers, Sukirti is happy that the show got her some very special friends. "Sushant Divgikar, Soni Singh, Deepshikha Nagpal, Diandra Soares and I are like one big group. We party together, keep meeting up and are constantly in touch with each other. There is Upen Patel also," she adds.
