19. Test of humanity - Part 1
They were driving to a larger military installation with Arjun.
"I am sorry," Khushi says softly. "I should have reacted but -"
"It's fine." Arnav says.
"I just froze. I didn't...I couldn't..."
"It's okay." He says again.
"It's not okay." She says hotly. "I don't know why you..."
Arnav swings around. "Zombies attacked us and you froze. A man died trying to save you. No, it is not okay because you or I shouldn't have been there in the first place. We aren't soldiers but this is the world we live in now where we all have to be one."
I'm guessing she was speaking to Capt Arjun. I understand base survival instincts have to come to the fore at a time like this, but how can she be expected to just bury the guilt that would come with having been the cause of a man's death. Seeing the dead and the dying all around you makes you so inured so soon?

To put offspring before you in the face of death is an evolutionary instinct assuming that the gene pool is always trying to better the race with every generation
But what about those who die to save others out of a sense of duty? Would the race have been better off with Khushi dead given she is the one who froze - that is what would have happened to that gazelle in the Africa? Did Capt Arjun (assuming that is who died saving her) actually weaken the humans and simply prolong the process of the end?Or does morality also come from a deep seated instinct for what is better for society at largeMy mind is all over the place
