Episode 6: Holi in the Jungle Jail
It was a regular school day at Dhingra High School. Down in the basement of the school where the Jungle Jail was at, fellow probation officers Riddhi, Aditya, Nikkita, and Disha were all at work. Mostly Nikkita, who was working with her last client of the day. "Good job, Chandu," Nikkita said as she went through some photos. "Its good I sent you to do extra work at the yearbook classes. I'm impressed."
"Thank you. Am I still on probation?"
"Normally I have to keep you for two weeks. But you've been handling yourself better than any client I had. And since Holi is coming, I'll let you go."
"Oh thanks!"
"But make sure you never give someone a wedgie again!"
"Promise! Bye!"
With that, Chandu dashed out of the Jungle Jail. "Wow, Nikki. You're being offley nice." Riddhi told Nikkita.
"Holi is probably the one holiday that I'll be nice to people," Nikkita replied. "What doesn't one love about it?! Colors, dancing-"
"And food!" Disha interrupted as she was eating some chicken tenders from a box.
"Didn't you just have chicken tenders twenty minutes ago?!" Nikkita asked Disha in annoyed tone.
"She bought three boxes." Aditya replied.
"Disha!" Riddhi and Nikkita exclaimed in unison.
"What?!" Disha asked as she continued to eat her chicken tenders.
"Anyways...are there any Holi celebrations at the school?" Riddhi asked.
"NOPE!" a voice shouted.
Riddhi, Aditya, Nikkita, and Dosja turned around to see Dean Rahul Kapur heading straight their way in the Jungle Jail. "Wait...there aren't any Holi celebrations at school?" Riddhi asked.
"Not since last year, Riddhi." the dean replied.
"What happened last year?" Riddhi asked.
"Last year when we had Holi celebrations at school, a couple of kids thought it would be fun to bring bhang for the occasion. We had to compiscate all of it before there were chances of students getting intoxicated." Nikkita explained.
"Frankly that doesn't surprise me." Riddhi rolled her eyes.
"That's why Holi celebrations are not allowed inside school." Aditya said.
"That's a shame," Riddhi said. "Holi happens to be my favorite holiday."
"As long as I get food, I'm good!" Disha exclaimed as she continued to eat her chicken tenders.
"If you kids want, you can come over to my neighborhood to play Holi after school," the dean told the others. "My treat!"
"Will there be food?!" Disha asked, excited.
"Only if you don't suck up the whole dinner." the dean replied.
"No guarantee on that." Disha said.
"We'll think about it, King Kong. We're finished with probation activities for today." Aditya told the dean.
"Very well. You guys can close the Jungle Jail for today then." the dean told the others to which they nodded.
After closing the Jungle Jail, Riddhi, Aditya, Nikkita, and Disha made their way up the stairs, walking down the hall. As they were walking, Luv came running towards the foursome. "What the heck are you doing?! Running a marathon?!" Riddhi asked from afar as Luv kept running.
"I need to know something!" Luv exclaimed as he continued running. But as he ran, Luv then tripped over a notebook that was lying on the floor. Once he tripped, he fell right into Riddhi and the two of them landed on the floor with Luv on top of Riddhi while Aditya, Nikkita, and Disha watched them, chuckling.
"You moron!" Riddhi exclaimed. She then looked up at Luv, who looked back at her as the two remained in the same position. Then, she pushed Luv off, shouting, "Must you always be such a moron!"
"Less violence would be appreaciated!" Luv shouted as he got up while Riddhi got up as well.
"Why were you running like Milkha Singh anyway?!" Nikkita asked Luv.
"I need to know what's happening for Holi tomorrow at school!" Luv exclaimed. "Its my favorite holiday!"
"King Kong banned all Holi celebrations at school." Riddhi replied.
"WHAT?! WHY?!" Luv cried.
"I'm sure you remember last year's incident," Aditya told Luv. "Odd that you weren't involved in it."
"Hey! I may fool around but I don't bring bhang to school!" Luv retorted. "And so what?! That was last year! I want to play Holi!"
"Then do it at home!" Nikkita said. "What King Kong says is what goes. Unless you want to see him in his ultimate form."
"I actually still want to see that." Luv said.
"Let's get one thing clear!" Riddhi told Luv. "Don't do anything stupid tomorrow! Or you know what's going to happen!"
"Come, Riddhi. We should get to class." Aditya told Riddhi.
With that, Riddhi, Aditya, Nikkita, and Disha made their way to class while Luv stood, disappointed. He then pondered for a moment. And after thinking for a bit, he gave a wide grin on his face.
The next day at school, Riddhi, Aditya, and Nikkita were at physics class, working on an experiment in the lab station. "I'm telling you, Adi! The velocity is five meters per second!" Nikkita argued with Aditya as they recorded data in the chart.
"And I'm telling you that you're wrong!" Aditya retorted. "How's that possible for a distance of fifty five meters?!"
"Well that's what I got!" Nikkita shouted.
"You used to wrong formula, Nikki," Riddhi intervened. "You're supposed to use the distance over time formula."
"What?!" Nikkita exclaimed as she then rummaged through the pages in her notebook. "Oh...my bad..."
"I told you." Aditya rolled his eyes.
"Yeah well I can be human you know, Mr. Know It All!" Nikkita said in an irritated tone.
As the trio continued working, there was a knock on the door in the classroom right near where they were working. "I'll get it." Nikkita said as she made her way towards the door. Once she opened the door, she was shocked as a masked boy suddenly threw a handful of purple holi powder at Nikkita's face. Riddhi and Aditya looked on in surprise. "WHAT THE HECK?!" Nikkita shouted. "YOU LITTLE-"
Before Nikkita could finish her sentence, the masked boy giggled and dashed off down the hall. Nikkita turned to Riddhi and Aditya who both chuckled at the sight of her purple colored face. "What's so funny?!" Nikkita asked in annoyed tone. "You guys quit laughing right now!"
"Who was that guy?" Riddhi asked.
"No idea." Aditya replied.
Later on, in psychology class, Riddhi, Aditya, and Nikkita went up to the front of the class to give their presentation on mental disorders as part of a class project. "So as you can see...mental disorders can vary from person to person," Aditya explained to the class. "That is why-"
Before Aditya could continue, the same masked boy barged into the classroom and threw blue colored holi powder all over Aditya's face and his shirt. This not only stunned Aditya, but also Mr. Kapoor. "Hey you! What are you doing?!" Mr. Kapoor shouted at the masked boy. The masked boy let out a laugh as he threw some blue holi powder at Mr. Kapoor as well and then scurried off into the hall. "Who is that boy?!" Aditya asked in an annoyed tone, looking at his shirt.
"Whoever he is, he got your color right." Nikkita giggled.
"Shut up!" Aditya replied.
When it came to lunch time, Riddhi, Aditya, Nikkita, and Disha were all sitting at their usual table. And Disha had just arrived at the table with a massive meal for lunch which consisted of two slices of cheese pizza, a box of chicken nuggets, a bag of potato chips, a medium sized carton of chocolate milk, and a pack of Oreo cookies. The others looked at Disha's meal and Disha said, "What?!"
"Frankly I'm not surprised." Nikkita rolled her eyes.
"What is this?! A lunch or a buffet?!" Riddhi asked.
"Oh come on! You can never have too much food!" Disha exclaimed as she started eating her pizza.
"But you can have too much JUNK food." Aditya said.
"Says the boy covered in blue!" Disha exclaimed.
"I really need to find out who that boy is that keeps throwing colors at people!" Nikkita pouted.
And just when Disha was continuing to eat, the masked boy came and dumped a whole bucket of green holi powder all over Disha, which also got on her food. Riddhi, Nikkita, and Aditya stood from their seats, shocked to see Disha covered in green colored powder. Disha stood from her seat, whimpering at the sight of her food which was all covered in powder. She turned in anger towards the masked boy, "YOU MORON! YOU RUINED MY LUNCH! THE BEST LUNCH EVER! I'M GONNA STRANGLE YOU SO BAD THAT YOUR NECK WILL BE NOTHING BUT RUBBER! YOU-"
"Dish! Fish!" Aditya exclaimed as he then threw some Swedish Fish into Disha's mouth which made her sit down. The masked boy then ran down the canteen, throwing more colored powder at other students. "Who is that guy?!" Nikkita asked in a frustrated tone.
"Whoever he is, he's becoming a nuisance!" Aditya said.
"That's enough!" Riddhi exclaimed. "I'm going after him!"
"What?!" Nikkita said. "Riddhi-"
But Riddhi had already taken off after the masked boy while Aditya, Nikkita, and Disha looked on. "Run Ridz! Run like the wind!" Disha called out. "And then take him out like fire!" Aditya and Nikkita shook their heads.
Outside the canteen, the masked boy was heading towards the halls that led up to the Chimp Cage. As he was running, Riddhi was right behind him. Once he got to the very end of the hall, Riddhi called out, "STOP! I got you now! Now show yourself! Don't make me put someone on probation on Holi!"
The masked boy turned around, looking directly at Riddhi. He took out some red colored powder. As he threw some of it towards Riddhi, Riddhi dodged it from getting on her. Once the boy tried to run, Riddhi grabbed him from the collar of shirt, holding onto him so he couldn't leave. "Now quit running and show who you are!" Riddhi exclaimed as she tried to pull off the mask the boy was wearing. As she tried to, the boy tripped over Riddhi's foot, falling right onto her as she pulled off his mask in the process. And the boy...was none other than Luv. Riddhi looked on surprised as Luv's hand, which was covered in red powder, had touched Riddhi's cheek, painting the red color across her cheek. And that's when Luv and Riddhi were simply lost in the moment, still in the same position, with Luv looking down upon Riddhi right into her eyes. She began to blush, remaining silent. As the two were still in the moment, Riddhi tried to get up herself to which Luv reciprocated. The two got up, looking away from each other, their faces turning a pinkish color. Riddhi then turned to Luv and said, "You're the boy whose been going around throwing holi powder at people?!"
"Isn't it obvious?!"
"Oh...it is. That's why you weren't in class."
"And you actually noticed that?"
"So what if I did?! Why the heck are you doing that?! I told you not to do anything stupid today! But then you never listen to me!"
"You're not my wife who I have to listen to all the time!"
"WIFE?! Please! Being your probation officer is enough trouble for me! And with this childish behavior, you can forget ever getting married!"
"Fine by me! I don't want to get married anyway!"
"Forget all that! Answer the question! Why are you going around, throwing holi powder at everyone?!"
Luv kept quiet while Riddhi waited for an answer. He took a deep breath and said, "This may sound stupid. But...its a long story."
"Well you got twenty minutes till class...start talking."
"Well...Holi means a lot to me."
"What does that have to do with this?! You can celebrate Holi at home! So why create trouble at school when King Kong said no?"
"Its more than that."
"Well what is it?! You're always clowning around so how am I supposed to understand?!"
"Then shut up and listen!"
Riddhi looked at Luv, surprised.
"This school's a very old school. And it was in this same school...my parents met. And it was on this same day, Holi. That was back when there were Holi celebrations at this school. Only because of that, I get attached to this place on Holi. Having to go without celebrating here...it just doesn't feel right to them."
Luv kept quiet while Riddhi looked on in silence. I don't believe it. That's his reason? Riddhi asked herself. Who would've thought that Luv Malhotra, the ultimate Monkey Boy of this school, would feel sentiments like that?!
As Luv and Riddhi stood in the hall, Aditya, Nikkita, and Disha came along with the dean. "I should've known!" Nikkita exclaimed. "Of course you would cause trouble like this, Luv! How low can you go?!"
"And you ruined my lunch!" Disha added. "You're gonna pay for that!"
"Luv Malhotra...I'm gonna have to punish you for breaking the rules!" the dean shouted.
"Wait!" Riddhi intervened.
"What is it, Riddhi?" Aditya asked.
"Don't punish Luv." Riddhi said.
"WHAT?! Are you crazy?!" Disha asked.
"Ridz...what's with you?" Nikkita asked Riddhi.
"I'll explain everything to you." Riddhi replied.
While Luv remained at the end of the hall, Riddhi explained the whole situation to Aditya, Nikkita, Disha, and the dean. "Wow...that's pretty deep for Luv." Nikkita said, surprised.
"It is," Riddhi replied. "That's why I feel he's behaving like that. So please don't punish him, King Kong."
"I agree." Aditya said.
"Where did he go?!" Disha asked.
The foursome turned to see the dean sobbing in the corner of the hall. "THAT'S SUCH A TOUCHING STORY!" the dean cried, blowing into a tissue. "OH WHY DID YOU TURN ME ALL SENTI?!"
"Um...so what are we going to do about Luv?" Nikkita asked as the dean pulled himself together.
"I'll let him off this time." the dean responded.
"Same here! But he still owes me a lunch!" Disha exclaimed.
"Then I have one last request." Riddhi said.
"And what is that, Riddhi?" the dean asked.
"Can you please let the students celebrate Holi today before school's over?" Riddhi asked.
The others turned to the dean, waiting for an answer. The dean pondered for a moment, and then gave a warm smile to the others.
And so, right after lunch, Holi celebrations began outside the school in the fields. Teachers helped bring in bowls of holi powder and other things for the festivities. And all the students went ahead and celebrated outside. Even the dean did. He had on a full on rainbow colored suit that he had been saving for the occasion and even let students dump holi powder on him.
"This is so much fun!" Nikkita exclaimed as she tied her hair in a ponytail.
"I agree," Aditya smiled. "Even Disha's happy."
Aditya and Nikkita turned around to see Disha at the snack table, having as much lassi as she could and eating jalebis at the same time. "Some things never change." Aditya rolled his eyes.
"Yeah. Like this!" Nikkita exclaimed as she then took a handful of pink holi powder and spread all over Aditya's face. Aditya looked on in surprise as Nikkita dashed off in excitement. "Nikki! Come back here!" Aditya called out as he grabbed a handful of red holi powder and went after Nikkita, finally getting hold of her so he could color her face with the powder.
Now where was Riddhi during this whole celebration? Riddhi had gone off to the far end of the field where Luv was standing by himself with a smile. She stood next to Luv and said, "Hi." Luv turned to Riddhi, surprised to see her. He then said, "Thanks for this."
"Same to you." Riddhi replied as she then reached down on the ground, grabbing a handful of red holi powder that was in a bowl. She then brushed it against Luv's cheek to which he looked at her with solemn eyes. As she then turned around to leave, Luv called out, "Hey Arrowhead!" Riddhi turned around to see Luv dump the whole bowl of holi powder right on Riddhi. Riddhi looked on in shock as Luv dashed off with a smirk on his face. "You Monkey Boy! Get back here!" Riddhi exclaimed as she went after Luv in the fields.
