In all this mess what is the administration doing?
Did they leave the people on their own ?

They turned to the nature healing which is the only one available now.iwith all the pollution from gadgets and equipments these days,we are far away from the Mother Nature and running behind the materialistic things .

17. Sense of reality

"You were expecting there would be many more of us, standing guard of this compound, helping the general public and looking badass at the same time?" Capt. Arjun looked amused by disappointment reigning on Arnav's face.

"Maybe." Arnav sighed. The officers guffawed.

"You give Hollywood too much credit." He continued. "Many of us died. Amongst those who didn't took off to check their families when communications with the outside world was still possible."

"Why didn't you leave then?" Payal asked.

"Because someone had to stay here and man the base ma'am." There was only sense of duty in his voice.

And there are always those who are able to think of the larger picture, beyond themselves and those that are their "own" These people have always amazed me. To me that is Nirvana, Moksha or whatever it is that you want to call it.

What is it that motivates them, I wonder? Is there a sense of self importance behind the generosity of spirit? If yes, then at what point does self believe morph to self importance to responsibility to the God complex? And is there really a line at all?

I digress but that is the whole point :)

If there is no self importance, then what value does the actions have? Responsibility exists as long as issues exist. We just tend to put them into an archetype and call it "God" simply because the archetype has tendency to fix shittiest of the problems.

Is there a line? I don't know. It really depends if you believe there are actually sides.

Say they survive this way, being on the run for several years in wilderness, having learnt to keep Zombies at bay...one cannot survive forever without a balanced eco-system. Bees, for example, are vital to humanity...if their species perished, it would be a total ecological apocalypse.

Human race is by and large self-absorbed and arrogant - perhaps, rightly so...but yet!!

There is a wonderful documentary (from history channel, The Universe series) which is about "what if all humans in the world were to disappear". To study this, they went to Chernobyl which is essentially the same - evacuation on a large scale where people had to leave everything behind and just go. I shall link it in my next update.

However Kushi brings him to reality very quickly reminding him to be more aware of what is around him now. We do need nature in order to survive and we do take it for granted and abuse it. So this could be a unique situation to reconnect and appreciate nature in all it's glory instead of taking all the time. I think Akash though just misses human interaction having been on the road with 3 others only. Natural medicine that Kushi is applying is another sign of going back to basic. I always think that catastrophe is mother nature's way of fixing all the abuses we throw at her, it is like she wants us to get back to our grassroots, to the time when cavemen existed, survival instinct, making use of what is in abundance and not be greedy. Of course she cannot fix human characters and traits of always wanting more, of depleting what we have in our need to consume more.

It will be interesting to see their interaction once they reach the military base.

I don't think anyone can fix greed. Even in moments of apocalypse, people can be greedy and end up being some sort of overlord.

What administration? Depends on who is remaining right? What can those people do when there are no people left? How will they contact? Who is running things?

Who is remaining to do all these admin stuff?

Natural disasters are often times, good for the environment in the long run - just like forest wildfires that are actually beneficial and regenerative for the forest. In the 60s and 70s, humans thought it best to suppress forest fires entirely...and after learning that it's not the hard way, now they just contain it to limit loss of human life or important infrastructure...and in places like Yellowstone and Yosemite National Parks, at prescribed periods, systematically set regions of the forest on fire to enable better growth...

Relating to human apocalypse, perhaps its nature's way of saying make way for another far more superior race...

Now, when it does come down to severely restricted supplies, will these four end up fighting amongst themselves? 😆

Plague, or black death, has visited Europe several times over centuries. All major cities got reduced to one third of its population every time this plague struck.

It will be the ultimate test of humanity of one of these four were to pick up a wrench and fight for resource.

Soldiers have this thing ingrained in them during training about duty and country. Don't get me wrong there are a lot deserters but those that tough it out, those die hards who fight to the end, they truly believe in their sense of duty to the country. So here we have Arjun, jaded by the recent disaster but still standing guard. He probably has no clue who if anyone is running the show anymore but he is trying to guard the last remaining bastion of what was assigned to him. I like how Payal asks the most innocent questions, the type that you would expect from a child. Why didn't you then? Feels like she is still untouched by the calamity around her or maybe she is deciding to escape it mentally as well.
I wonder how these 4 will feel now realizing that there is not much authority left as a dejected Arnav found out. Was he hoping to find a place that has some semblance of an organized society that was broken from where they came from? This is each man for his own land now so they will have to form a strategy on how they will survive together and assign roles. This will determine their chance of survival and not having to beat each other for food. Yes, I do believe that out of chaos, one can define a process to sustain. You need a clear mind for that and an ability/willingness to work together with clear defined roles. Do they have this at this point in their journey?

RB, I am loving this dialogue on humanity in a do or die situation. Btw, greed has been around since the beginning and will continue to be part of our psyche along with jealousy till we are turned into robots. Maybe this is where your story is headed, a Borg society . . .hahajust the Trekkie in me talking now.
