Episode 15: A Tragic Past, A Tragic Future Part 1
The sun had risen. Damini was sleeping on the chair near Kabir's bed in his room. She had awoken, looking directly at Kabir first, who was still sound asleep. She looked at his solemn state, remaining silent. Damini got up from the chair and left the room, going into the hallway. As she walked in the hall, she was shocked once she entered the main room. Raja and Aryan stood before what was Sahir's dead body laying on the floor, in a coffin. Raja turned to Damini with a cold look on his face and said, "Get Kabir."
Five minutes later, Damini brought Kabir to the main room where he was shocked to see Sahir's dead body. Damini tried to console him, but he dropped to the floor in front of the body, unable to control his tears for Sahir. Raja bended down, placing his hand on Kabir as he turned away to hide his unemotional face." Aryan, arrange for the cremation." Raja ordered Aryan.
That evening, the cremation was performed. Sahir's body was buried under pieces of wood while Raja performed the cremation, setting his body on fire while Damini, Kabir, and Aryan watched in silence. Raja watched Sahir's body burn, thinking to himself, And this is what karma does to you.
Kabir had tears come down his eyes to which Damini held him on his shoulder to help him relax. Aryan left shortly, heading back inside the den.
In Kabir's room, Damini sat beside Kabir, trying to comfort him. Just then, her cellphone rang in her jeans pocket. "I'll be back." Damini told Kabir. Damini went outside, taking out her cellphone and answering the call to see it was Inspector Raina calling. "Hello?"
"I hope the body reached there."
"You sent it?"
"Who else?"
"What is it now?"
"Nothing. I just wanted to check on things. A surprise is coming for you all soon anyway."
"What do you mean?"
"You'll see, Damini. Just stay alive."
With that, Damini hung up the call and headed back in Kabir's room. Little did she realize was that Raja was listening to her conversation from the back of the wall, grinning evilly.
Inside, Damini sat with Kabir, holding him on his shoulder. "Kabir...what's done is done. Its time to move on." Damini told Kabir.
"I can't forget. Its true...Sahir was a selfish man. But I still treated him like my brother. If only we had made amends before he had died."
"That's the sad reality of life. Its time to move on."
"I wish I could. But something inside tells me that there is more to come."
"May I ask...where's Aryan?"
"In his room. Usually after things like this, he stays by himself...alone with that toy bear that he always destroys."
"What exactly is wrong with him? He seems to be a disturbed man."
"Then I haven't told you anything about him."
"All I know is about you and Sahir. What about him?"
"Its a painful story actually. Aryan was just like me and Sahir. He was orphaned at a young age and found by Raja bhai. Raja took him in and trained him just like us. That was the life for us since then. The trouble began when he was around twenty years old."
"What happened?"
"He met a girl...Rushali. She was just a girl that he would come across in the streets every now and then. And that was his first mistake at that age...love. Both of them fell in love. Raja bhai didn't like him seeing her and even told her to never meet him again. And secretly, Aryan kept the teddy bear that Rushali gave him as a token of their love."
"Did Rushali know about his identity?"
"She found out. But she told him to leave the job and the two could elope together away from the city. Aryan agreed, but Rushali wanted one thing for him to do. He asked him to steal twenty lakhs from Raja bhai and then they could run off. Aryan did as told and stole the money before daybreak and met up with Rushali on the roadside. That's when harsh reality hit him."
"What?"
"Rushali put him at gunpoint. Aryan then realized that she was not interested in him...but only in the money of the Killers Society. She would've killed him and gotten away with the crime had Raja bhai not come in and killed her."
"What happened after that?"
"Aryan was heartbroken. And most importantly, Raja bhai's trust in him was gone. That's probably why Raja has disliked Sahir and Aryan a lot. I'm the only one who hasn't broken his trust yet. And that's why Aryan always shoots that teddy bear...to get rid of the pain. But pain never leaves him. He's a poor soul. I myself pity him. But there's nothing I can do."
On the other side of the hall, in his room, Aryan stared at the teddy bear. It was shot so much that there was nothing much of it left. Aryan placed the teddy bear on the chair. He stood before it, holding his pistol towards it. "Sahir's now gone. But at least I can try to get rid of this pain once and for all," Aryan said as he held the pistol. "One last shot...and I'll free myself."
Aryan got ready to shoot. But as he pulled on the trigger, he himself was struck by a bullet in the back. The shock was unbearable. He slowly turned around in even more shock. Raja was holding the gun right at him. He then shot him again three times in the heart, and Aryan fell to the floor, dead.
Raja cackled. "Now you're free, my boy. Free to go to hell. Now I know how that other boy died. I might as well take out the other weak link. Now...I only need one loyal man to run things around here. And that's how it'll go."
Raja turned around to leave the room. But he stood, startled. Kabir and Damini were standing right before him, having witnessed Aryan's murder.
