Chapter Three
"Vidhushi?" Sanyukta asked, completely surprised.
"Sanyukta!" Vidhushi exclaimed happily and threw her arms around her former classmate.
Sanyukta hesitantly hugged her back.
"Come - come in Vidhushi," Sanyukta told her, awkwardly.
Vidhushi knew it would be awkward for her... after all, ever since the breakup, their mutual friends had split too, and Sanyukta had isolated herself from everybody.
"Would you like anything to eat or drink?" Sanyukta asked as soon as Vidhushi sat down.
Vidhushi shook her head and looked around the place. It was a small apartment. Sanyukta seemed to be living alone.
"How did you find me?" Sanyukta asked, sitting down on the couch beside Vidhushi.
"Long story Sanyukta," Vidhushi told her, sounding exhausted at the prospect of telling her.
Vidhushi knew that she had to be assertive in order to convince Sanyukta of the reunion of her and Randhir.
"How is... how is everyone?" Sanyukta asked, a genuine pain in her voice.
"Sanyukta... he's... he's been miserable," Vidhushi told her, knowing exactly who she was referring to.
She noticed Sanyukta's expression change into a pained one as soon as Vidhushi told her that.
"And... and everyone else?" Sanyukta asked.
"Parth's good... we're married now," Vidhushi told her with a positive smile.
Sanyukta's face brightened immediately.
"Congratulations!" Sanyukta exclaimed happily, "I'm so happy for you two."
"Thanks," Vidhushi replied. "We got married a few months ago."
"So how did you find me Vidhushi? I mean... you said it's a long story, but I still want to hear it," Sanyukta asked.
"Destiny," Vidhushi replied simply. "Destiny brought me to you... and destiny is bringing you back to him."
"Huh?" Sanyukta asked, confused.
"You aren't happy that Randhir is miserable?" Vidhushi asked.
Sanyukta's expression once again changed into a pained one as soon as Vidhushi mentioned his name, but she shook her head.
"Of course not, why would I ever want him to be unhappy?" Sanyukta asked.
"Exactly... I know how to bring him out of his misery, and you're the only way this can happen," Vidhushi told her with a small smile.
"What?" Sanyukta asked, still confused.
Vidhushi leaned forward slightly and brought her tone down to a whisper.
"Sanyukta, Randhir wants to get married... and when I went to the marriage agency, among all the pictures, was a picture of you. Randhir won't be happier with anyone else. You have to marry him," she told her quickly.
Sanyukta looked completely bewildered.
"What on Earth Vidhushi? I haven't seen him or spoken to him in three years, how can you expect me to just go and marry him?" she asked her.
"Sanyukta... I know you're stubborn, but is your stubborn behaviour, is your ego greater than Randhir's happiness? Is it greater than your love for him?" Vidhushi asked.
"Who said I still loved him?" Sanyukta asked, folding her arms, sounding completely irritated.
"What do you feel for him then Sanyukta? What do you call this care? What do you call it when your breathing pattern changes when you hear about him being unhappy?" Vidhushi asked.
"It's hate, I hate him Vidhushi," Sanyukta told her through gritted teeth. "How do I forget what he did to me?"
"You don't need to," she told her sympathetically. "Sanyukta... you have been holding in all your anger, your frustration for so many years. I know you have nobody. At least after this you'll have the one person you can express your feelings to... whether it's through anger or love. You won't have that freedom with another husband."
Sanyukta chewed on her bottom lip slowly, trying to understand the situation.
"What does he have to say about this?" she asked Vidhushi.
"He doesn't know... and he won't know," Vidhushi simply said.
"What?" she asked, more confused.
"I mean you're going to pretend to be someone else... so that when he does know it's you, he won't back out."
"That's stupid... Randhir will be so pissed off if he finds out!" Sanyukta told Vidhushi adamantly.
"Don't worry Sanyukta, just trust me on this," Vidhushi told her reassuringly.
"Okay..." Sanyukta said hesitantly.
"Here, have his number," Vidhushi said, taking out her phone. "Send him a text... use another name."
