CHAPTER TWELVE
Ishita finally pulled away as she had heard there was someone calling her name. She looked back at the direction where the entrance of the garden was and then back at him when she saw the disapproving look in his eyes as if he didn't want to stop. She chuckled as she pointed at his entrance and told him
'Baba jay is the man who takes care of all this when we are not around and he has been calling me for the last couple of minutes. I think we need to leave.''
Raman looked at her and smiled knowing full well that whatever had just happened a few seconds ago was not meant to happen even though it felt unbelievably amazing and enchanting; it wasn't supposed to happen or was it.
'Right I think it is wise we should leave.'' He said as they turned and walked away not talking about what just happened and maybe realizing Mumbai may have brought emotions each of them wasn't sure they were ready to admit.
They walked out of the garden very quietly until they finally made their way back into the car. Ishita did not know what to do or say to him to break this awkward silence so she just quietly took her seat in the car.
It was just a 20 minute drive back to the Iyers but it felt like a century. Raman knew that whatever happened wasn't supposed to happen. No matter how amazing it felt especially the feel of her lips on his, his breath on her nape, the fire that ignited in him like never before, the smell of her hair... oh how he wanted to feel that but he knew better than that. Or at least he thought. He didn't want a relationship with any other woman as history had taught him never to trust them. She after all did marry him for his money and whatever emotions that came otherwise were not to betaken seriously. He thought to himself
'But maybe this is different. What would happen if I let myself just ...'' But his thoughts got interrupted
'Do you want to talk'' she asked
Ishita looked at him and she had been around him enough to know that the look on his face clearly stated something was wrong. She guessed it must be because of the kiss and so she figured end it here before this becomes a thing.
'What'' he asked
'Do you want to talk about what just happened?'' she asked again
'NO! Why? Do you want to talk about it.'' He asked surprised at her question
'Well let's see, your mumbling under your breath, you keep on looking at me sideways as if hoping I do not see you and you keep rubbing your ring finger with your thumb. Are you sure you do not want to talk about it.'' She asked again
Raman looked at her then at his hand and noticed he was doing just that. He then looked at her again hoping to read anything from her face but if she was feeling regret or pleasure for whatever happened, she didn't show it.
'I am just worried for Ruhi that's all.'' He lied
'Right!'' she answered
'No really I am.'' He answered even he not believing himself
'Okay I get it. You're just worried for Ruhi I know that.'' She answered sarcastically
'Well why do you say it like that? Like you do not believe me'' He asked
'Because I do not believe you'' She answered
'Why is that.'' He asked
'You always rub your ring finger when your with Shagun and now that she is not here am guessing your thinking about her.'' She answered
'What nonsense'' He answered defensively
'Oh so you mean am lying. You have a few tells Raman, that one is the most obvious one.'' She answered
'Okay I think the air in Mumbai makes you a little cuckoo.'' He said
'Is that so? Is it why you keep on wearing that wedding band from your first marriage?'' she asked
'I do not. This is not my first wedding ring.'' He answered
'I did not say it was your wedding ring, I said it is a wedding band from your first marriage. Am guessing she gave it to you.'' She answered.
Raman looked at her and knew no matter how hard he tried to explain himself, he was not going to get out of this one, so he instead of digging a bigger grave, he figured he should just shut up and drive.
Ishita looked at Raman and knew she had hit the bull's eyes with this one. He looked shocked by the fact that she knew it.
'Look whatever significance it had for you both, it is still there because Shagun was wearing it too the day we met. It is okay you do not owe me an explanation. Am just saying that I know for a fact that whatever happened back their bothered you and I promise it won't happen again. You do not have to feel guilty or anything I knew full well what I was doing when I kissed you back and am sorry about that. I promise I will never lose my self-control like that again. It is not a big deal so do not sweat it just forget the whole thing'' She answered as she turned away from him looking outside through the window
Raman looked at her and wasn't even sure how to feel about the whole situation. He should be feeling glad and happy that she and he were on the same page but for some reason it wasn't the case. He felt bad that she thought whatever happened back there was through impulse and nothing more. It wasn't just impulse, there was something more and even though he couldn't quite express what it was, it was still something.
Out of anger he turned around to tell her that she was wrong about the whole thing especially the ring because it didn't mean what she thought. But when he saw her, he could see something he wasn't expecting... HURT... She had this look in her eyes that she was desperately trying to hide and if you didn't know her well your would think nothing really bothered her but he had learnt a few things about her too and that look was telling a different story from what she was saying.
He felt bad seeing her like that and every vein in her body was telling him to just stop the car and hold her just so she doesn't feel so bad about the whole thing because it was not that bad. In fact when he kissed her he felt an over whelming emotion that he didn't get with anyone before, not even Shagun. His thoughts were however interrupted when he heard her phone vibrate
'Hi Mihika ' she answered
'Ishita Mom says you and Raman need to get back home like now.'' Answered Mihika
'Alright we are on our way. Is Ruhi okay?'' she asked
'I think so and I think Ayaan managed to crack her.'' Answered Mihika
'Ayaan? Wow should have thought of that earlier.'' Ishita answered
'Okay we are on our way we'll be there in the next 10 minutes.'' She added
'Is Ruhi okay?'' asked a genuinely bothered Raman
'Yeah she is fine. I think the circle of truth worked Ayaan managed to crack her.'' Answered Ishita
'Cracked her? What do you mean?'' asked Raman
'Well I guess we are going to find out'' answered Ishita
They finally made their way back home both anxious to know what Ruhi had revealed and also to just get away from each other for a while. Ruhi being young as she was, she seemed to have gone through a lot and it was affecting her. Ishita just hoped they would find out what the problem was and solve it before it got worse.
Raman and Ishita entered the house only to find everyone was cheerfully sitting in the living room while the kids were watching cartoons.
'Hey Ishita didi where have you been?'' asked Nitya
'I just went out for a walk with Raman. How have you been?'' asked Ishita
'I had loads of fun today. And I cannot believe I can finally say Ishita is my Didi for real. Do you know how cool that is?'' asked an excited Nitya
'Hey I thought I already was ' asked Ishita teasingly
'Well yeah but now the whole world knows I am an Iyer.'' Said Nitya as she excitedly hugged Ishita
Raman watched and couldn't help but smile. Ishita really was a woman of all layers. A few minutes ago she seemed so upset but now it was like nothing mattered in the world. Most people just say family is life but she lived it. It was like all her life and everything she held dear was all in her family.
'Hey Nitya where is Ruhi?'' asked Raman
'Oh she is in the study with Ayaan and Dev. I think Mama is still with them'' Answered Nitya
'Let me go talk to Mama Okay Nitya'' answered Ishita
'Sure Ishita Didi'' answered Nitya
Ishita and Raman finally made their way to the study room where they found Mrs. Iyer sitting in the chair while Ruhi sat on the couch with Dev and Ayaan seated beside her. They were two chairs set there as well making everyone face each other and seated in a circle. Raman was so nervous and scared but he knew that whatever was about to be revealed in the next few minutes was something he heard to hear and he had to be strong for his daughter.
'Hey Ruhi beta are you okay.'' Asked Raman.
Ruhi finally looked up at her dad with tears in her eyes and answered
'Haan Papa am okay''
'You do not seem okay.'' Answered Raman
'Raman you need to calm down. We are still in the circle of truth'' Answered Ishita as she took her seat
Raman looked at Ishita and then back at Ruhi who was holding Ayaan's hand so tight like her life depended on it.
'Raman why don't you take a seat and let us begin'' Said Mrs. Iyer
Raman finally took a step back and finally sat down quietly when Ayaan finally said
'There is just one rule of this Circle. You are to keep quiet and not say anything until we are done.''
'And you have to give us your patience and hear us out.'' Added Dev
They all agreed and Ayaan started
' Ruhi and we have been in touch since we met a year ago and it is only me and Dev who know what happened. I should have told Ishita didi about this but I promised Ruhi I wouldn't do that so I didn't. It is not good to break promises, Ishita taught me that and so I decided to keep quiet until she got the strength to tell you herself. I just ask for one thing, please do not be upset with her for not telling you sooner.''
And with all in agreement Ruhi Started

Flash Back Three Years Ago
Ruhi was very excited to go and spend some time with her brother and mother after such a long time. She missed her brother a lot and loved her mother too but she wouldn't stay with them because she thought her father would miss her a lot. She always went and spent the holidays there and during school days she would come back home. But this fateful holiday was going to be one that changed her forever.
'' Oh Adi i missed you so much. You know I always love the holidays. I get to spend as much time with you as I want.'' Said Ruhi
''You wouldn't have to see me depending on his time table if you had chosen to stay here with us.'' answered Aditya
''Do not say he, he is our papa Adi and besides Mama has you and he would have stayed all alone. Enough of that did you miss me?'' asked Ruhi
''Of course I did.'' answered Adi as he took Ruhi in his embrace
''So what plans do you have for me this summer, are we going to that camp like last year?'' Asked a very excited Ruhi
''No Ruhi, not this time you are going to have to spend the summer with Mom because I am not going to be here. I have camp and it is an all boys camp so you can't come.'' answered Adi
''What? Why didn't you tell me earlier? I would have stayed home'' answered a dejected Ruhi
''No I wanted to see you before I left which will not be in another 5 days. Besides if I told you then you wouldn't have come and mom wanted to spend some time with you.'' answered Aditya
''Did mom say that or are you just making it up.'' asked Ruhi
''She totally did. She said she loves you and wants to spend some time with you'' lied Aditya
''You're just saying that'' answered Ruhi
She knew that her brother Aditya pampered her a lot but her mother not so much. She never really knew her and only wished her mother would love just as she loved Aditya maybe even care but she knew better.
''No am not. Am telling the truth.'' answered Aditya
In his head Aditya felt like he was doing the right thing because he knew how bad Ruhi felt every time their mom ignored her or showed more concern for everyone else but her. He figured this was going to be the right time for them to mend things out but oh how wrong he was.
After a few weeks Aditya had left for camp and Ruhi and Shagun were left in the house. They spent some time together and had loads of fun. She loved every minute of it but it all changed when Shlok and his brother came back from Dubai.
They had been leaving in Delhi but Shlok was trying to build his business and would take load and loads of business trips to all places in the world especially Dubai and once in a while he would come back home to see Shagun and take care of Business in India
Shagun started to ignore Ruhi and would spend all her time with Shlok going to different events night after night leaving Ruhi to the mercy of the nanny. That eventful night something happened
Shagun had promised Ruhi they were going to the mall and later to the park to spend some time together and also go shopping so she (Ruhi) had spent most of her time getting ready for the day but got disappointed when Shagun didn't show.
She waited and waited until the late in the night for Shagun to show up but all went in vain.
'I know she won't come I should have known better.'' Said Ruhi
The nanny looked at her and felt bad because she understood how much this girl craved for the love of a mother but he mother was too self-centered to see it.
'Can I serve you food Ruhi, its getting late you should be in bed.'' Said the nanny
'No I do not want to eat. I will just go to bed.'' with tears in her eyes Ruhi answered as she finally walked upstairs and got ready for bed.
Ruhi kept on tossing and turning in bed with her little mind telling her that her mother would eventually come and make it up to her so when she heard footsteps in Aditya's room which was just adjacent to hers, she figured her mom was back and was looking for her.
When she got there the door was slightly open and she could see someone was sitting on the chair with something wrapped around his arm. Just like her father curiosity got the best of her and she decided to walk in and find out that person and what were they doing in Aditya's room.
When she entered she could see Suraj seating on the bed chest bear with a needle in his hand. He had blood coming out of his nose and he didn't seem okay. She saw him and got scared thinking something was wrong so she went and tapped his shoulder saying
'Suraj uncle are you okay. Should I call mom?''
Suraj who was high as a kite and when he woke up, his mind was playing games on him instead of recognizing Ruhi, he thought one of the mules had come out and like an animal he reacted. He smacked her across only for her to fall and hit her head on the wall.
Ruhi hit her head so hard she started to feel dizzy but when she saw him coming towards her like a bull she stated to run screaming on top of her lungs hoping the nanny heard her. She ran so fast until she made it to the outhouse.
This out house was always locked and they( the kids) were never allowed to play anywhere near that place but she had no place to go and so she hoped the door would just open. As luck would have it she struggled with all the little strength she had and finally opened it.
She entered and she could see there were all these wooden boxes with a logo of tiger on them. They were big enough for someone to hide there so she got a stool and tired to climb into one of them but she took too long and Suraj had already caught up with her.
He grabbed her by the hair and threw her down and just as he was about to hit her Shlok walked in and pulled Suraj away from her. She was so nervous and petrified that she peed herself and out of shock she fainted.
''What the f#$@ck have you done you idiot?'' said Shlok
''I thought she was one of the mules and was running away with my drugd.'' answered Suraji
''You're such an idiot. Why would Raman's kid be a mule you As%@#$hole'' asked an agitated Shlok but Suraj was too high on a mixture of drugs to care
''You need to leave such that i clean up your mess. Go right now'' said Shlok as he walked over to where Ruhi was laying. Suraj looked at his brother then decided it was probably for the best that he listened so he left.
Shlok checked and saw she had a couple of bruises and cuts but she was okay. He finally carried her to the house and asked the nanny to clean her up and her wounds and wasn't to utter a word to Shagun.
When Ruhi woke up the following morning, her Mom was sitting besides her on the bed and she was crying and complaining that why did she have to play on the balcony. Ruhi didn't understand what she was talking about as she was still a little fazed.
'Look what you have done to yourself. Now your dad won't take even a second before he starts complaining that I am an irresponsible mother. Why the hell did you go play on the balcony rails? I always asked you not to. I swear Ruhi your always just a headache'' Said Shagun
'But Mama I wasn't playing at ...'' but she got interrupted by Shagun
''What do you mean? Are you saying Shlok is lying? '' said Shagun
''But mama i wasn't...'' she tried to speak but when she saw Shlok she got scared and kept quiet
''Now why are you quiet. You ungrateful child. i swear i could just...'' but Shagun got interrupted by Shlok
'Arre Shagun leave the girl alone. Ruhi honey, here have some juice. Shagun get her medicines for her I left them in our room.'' Shlok said as Shagun walked out of the room mumbling under her breath
Shlok turned to Ruhi and grabbed her hand saying
'Now you look here you little twat, it you tell your mother or even that useless thing you call a father, I will make sure you get a bigger beating than you got last time. You and that imbecile you call a brother will safer so bad are we clear. And if you utter a word by the time am done with you both, y'all will be dead''
END FLASH BACK

' I tried to tell Mom but she was too upset with me to listen and when Shlok uncle said all that I got scared for Adi so I didn't say anything.'' Said Ruhi who by now was crying so hard she was struggling to find words to say
'I ... Am... So sorry papa, I should have told you earlier I am so sorry. '' She added
Raman was too pissed off to even talk. He looked at his daughter as she struggled to talk and wondered what she might have been through all this time. He watched as she held on to Dev and Aryan's hands tightly almost as if she was drawing strength from them. He felt like he had failed as a dad because it was his job to protect his children and at the moment he was failing miserably.
Ishita who by now had tears in her eyes was so nervous but not for Ruhi because she knew Ruhi had found solace now but for Raman and what he might do. He was a very hot headed man and was one of those people who did things and thought about the consequences later. She looked at him as he kept on pacing up and down the room like a crazy person and knew he was going to do something stupid.
'Raman you need to calm down.'' Ishita said
'CALM DOWN? YOU'RE ASKING ME TO CALM DOWN? BY THE TIME I AM DONE WITH THAT SON OF A BITCH HIS GOING TO BE PLEADING WITH ME TO KILL HIM.'' Said Raman as he walked out of the room not being able to face his daughter's teary eyes
