Chapter 7
At Priya's house, Sunday night... Shipra and Sudhir in the living room.. Kartik has gone out with friends for a movie...
Shipra: Kartik konsa movie dekhne gaya hain?
Sudhir: PK... Suna hain bahut achi hain...
Shipra: Very nice movie... Hum dono ko bhi jana hain...
Sudhir: OK... Chalte hain... Next week main kabhi...
Shipra: OK... Priya ke aane ke baad chalet hain...
Sudhir: OK... Khaane main kya hain? Kuch Acha banaya hain?
Shipra: Maine na aapki favorite Paneer dish Banaya hain... Chaliye..
Sudhir: Smiles... thank u... Chalo...
While having dinner, Both of them start talking random stuff.. but eventually the topic comes up...
Shipra: Sudhir, Kya Priya is shaadi ke proposal ke baare me sochegi?
Sudhir: Main janta hoon... She will... But humhe poke karna padega..
Shipra: Ok... Ek idea hain mere paas..
Sudhir: Bolo.... Tumarhi ideas.. Shipra... He thinks to himself...
Shipra: I know what you are thinking Jaanu... Don't worry, this time... you will be wrong...
Sudhir: Ok... Bolo to sahi...
Shipra: Hum kyun na, Krishna ji ke beta ka email id lekhe.. Priya ko bole ki Ram ne diya hain... Main Krishna ji se baat kar sakti hoon...
Sudhir: Hmmm... idea to badiya hain.. Waise to yeh phone pe baat karne ke liye... maanegi nahi...Email... kaam ho sakta hain... Tum Krishna ji se baat karo... Arey wah Shipra.. Accha idea hain...
Shipra: Jaanu... I am the best na...
Sudhir: Smiles... Maine tumhe chuna hain... proudly...
Meanwhile, Priya has called on Sudhir's phone...
Shipra: Jaanu, Kaun hain..
Sudhir: Priya ka phone hain... Main speaker pe lagata hoon...
Hi Priya, Kaise ho? Conference kaisa chal rahi hain?
Priya: I am ok Papa? How are you? Maa kaisi hain? Kartik kaisa hain?
Sudhir: Hum dono ek dum teek hain... Kartik Movie dekhne gaya hain...Just had dinner.. Tumhari Maa ne.. meri wali panner dish banaya tha..
Priya: Arey wah.. Papa... Maa... tho... teases her parents a bit...
Sudhir and Shipra: Priya... Bahut hua... Tell us about the conference..
Priya: Conference has been very good. Ajay aur me... are having a very good time... Bahut kuch seekha hain... Kal afternoon meri presentation hain... I am anxious and a little nervous...
Sudhir: Arey Priya... Tum kyun nervous ho... You will do very well.. I wish I could listen to this talk...
Priya: I wish both of you were here... I will see if Ajay can record parts of it... Chalo Maa, Papa.. Main Rakthi hoon... Need to go over the presentation once more before I sleep...
Sudhir and Shipra: Ok Beta.. Good luck for tomorrow... and Good Night beta..
Priya thanks her parents.. Opens her laptop to see if her presentation is free from errors and some fine tuning... Finishes her work.. and sleeps..
Meanwhile, Ram speaks to Vikram to discuss some of the topics that were interesting at the conference and some work related issues. Vikram reminds him about the talk tomorrow afternoon... Ram thanks him and calls it a night...
Monday at the conference. Priya, as per her agenda goes to some of the company stalls in the morning. She reaches the K&S pharmaceuticals. Her agenda says Person to contact is Vikram Shergill..
Priya: Hi.. I am Dr Sharma, an assistant professor from JNSCAR institute. Are you Mr Shergill?
Abhay: I am sorry. Mr Shergill is not here. I am Abhay Singh, a marketing specialist at K&S pharma. Welcome to our stall. Is there anything I can do for you?
Priya: Thanks. Can you go over some of your products.. May be demos?
Abhay: Sure..
Abhay shows her some of the products... and answers most of the questions that Priya had. But Priya had some questions that Abhay could not answer... So he suggested that his boss would be able to answer.
Abhay: But he is away at a talk at this moment. If you could wait for a bit then I can msg him and have him come here.
Priya: Thanks.. But I have to go now...
Abhay: You can email my boss at your convenience. Here is his card...
Priya: Thanks.. have a nice day.
Meanwhile Ram sees a lady leaving his company's stall... He tries to get to his stall in time... but fails.. Priya has left...
Ram: Abhay, who was that?
Abhay: Oh Sir.. You are here... That lady had lots of questions about our products... She wanted to talk to you, but I was not willing to wait.. I gave her the business card and requested her to contact through email...
Ram: Great!! Thanks... He thinks to himself... email... Let us see what she has for us...
Abhay: No problem sir...
Ram spends some more time at the stall and heads to have lunch... He is reminded about yesterday's fun encounter with Priya... and secretly hopes it happens again... But cannot understand why... He looks around for Priya at the lunch area... But Priya is not there... She has a talk in 10 mins... So She was getting ready for it... Ram is enjoying his lunch... an alarm from his mobile goes off... He realizes the talk is in 5 mins (Vikram mentioned)... I can get there before it begins.. let me finish my lunch... Finally, Ram reaches the talk that Priya is presenting... It has just begun, Intro is done...
Ram: It has begun already... Oh oh...
But he just settles at the back... and looks at the presenter... His mouth is open... and he is staring... He can't believe the presenter is the lunch/flat tire lady.. But today.. she looked different... Pretty, beautiful... and an authority in her voice... He seemed bowled over... Comes back to reality and starts listening to her talk...
Priya, starts off by introducing herself, topic and just goes with the flow... 12 mins of presentation and she opens up the Q&A session... The audience is applauding her work and presentation... There were a few questions, that she answered well. Ram raises his hand to ask a question.. Priya is surprised to see who it is and gathers herself real quick... so that she can answer his question...
Ram: I was wondering, if you are planning to expand this work into clinical based Cancer research.
Priya: Currently, my focus is in basic research. I am looking for avenues and different collaborators to expand my research in this field... Maybe we can discuss this at a later time.
Session director thanks Priya. Ram tries to catch hold of Priya with regard to the company.. but does not get a chance... Too many people.. Priya sees Ram trying to catch hold.. but she can't do anything because she is surrounded by people waiting to talk to her... In her mind.. she is thrilled (don't know why)... To see Ram at her talk and asking questions as well... I don't who he is... Just know him as RK... a chubby.. cute... arrogant... but likeable guy... Ajay catches up with Priya and congratulates her for an excellent talk...
Ajay: Comes let us have lunch and then you can help me set up my Poster for the evening...
Priya: Let us go.. I am hungry...
Ajay: Did you go to the K&S stall?
Priya: I did.. Loved their work and products.. But could not meet the main guy... Got contact details... Will email and see if they have funding for my grand research project...
Ajay: Cool...
Rest of the Monday goes uneventfully... Ram and Priya don't get a chance to meet each other... Both are disappointed... and both hope to meet each other tomorrow... Priya is wiped out.. and just hits the bed and sleeps... Ram calls Vikram...
Ram: Hey Vikram..
Vikram: Hi Ram... You sound good... Seems like a better day today...
Ram: Arey... Anyway.. you remember the flat tyre/Lunch lady?
Vikram: I do... Did u have another funny incident? Did u talk to her? ...
Ram: Arey... No... She is the same lady who gave that talk that you asked me to attend...
Vikram: Really... Awesome... How was the girl? And the talk?
Ram: One track mind... Talk was great! Her work is something we would find useful.. Tried to talk to her but.. did not get a chance... It sounded like she is looking to expand her work as well... We need to get her on our side Vikram... She will be great for the company...
Vikram: Cool... I am surprised ram.. You don't usually praise easily.. So she must be good... I will contact her... Not just for the company... Also for you... Kyun?... Chalade baat?
Ram: Arey... Chod na... Tub hi.. Chal I am super exhausted.. Catch up with u later...
Vikram: OK .. Good night... Dream about her...
Ram.. Vikram ka kuch nahi hoga... and thinks about Priya... and sleeps...
Meanwhile, Shipra has called Krishna Ji
Krishna: Shipra Ji, Namaste.. Aap Kaise hain?
Shipra: I am OK... Aap Kaise hain? I wanted to talk to you about something.
Krishna: I am OK too. Waiting for Ram to get back... What did you want to talk about? Boliye
Shipra: My Daughter is not back either... But I know that she will find different reasons/ excuses to put off contacting your son... So I had an Idea.
Krishna: Cool... I think my Son is also the same... So tell me, maybe we can fix this.
Shipra: Ok... I was thinking of giving Priya, Ram's email id. And suggest that Ram has given it to her to initiate contact... And maybe you can give Priya's id to him... with the same ruse.. though neither of them have actually asked for it. What do u think?
Krishna: Shipra Ji, Maan gaye aapko.. Idea bahut acchi hain.. yeh lijiye ram ki email id...
Shipra: Ek minute I will write it down... Shipra writes down... and give priya's id as well...
Both of them are excited at the prospect... of emails... Even though it is small... Both exchange their Kid's photos.. But decide not to show their kids... till they start talking/ emailing... Shipra tells Sudhir... about the chat with Krishna Ji...
