All too soon I stepped back breaking the hug. My eyes took their fill of her assuring my racing heart that she's alright. Khushi smiled up at me, her face reflecting the pure relief she's feeling on having me here with her. That one looks said it all. How scared she must have been here amongst the strangers with alcohol all around. She was all alone in this pathetic place. I felt my blood boiling inside my veins, demanding I teach my brother a lesson he won't forget ever in his life. But one look at her face and all my attention were on her.

A quick look at the room, I found a corner less crowded. I grabbed Khushi's wrist and made my way towards it. Upon reaching there I was thankful of the couch placed there. I made Khushi sit on that couch and turned to go to get water for her. Feeling the touch on my fingers, I stopped and turned. What I saw had my heart swell in my chest with the love I have for this girl. My brother's Girls, that insistent pathetic voice inside my head whispered, reminding me again and again for whom I am harboring these kind of feelings. I shut that voice up and just looked at her mesmerizing eyes, that are looking at me like a lost child would look at his parents. Crouching down to her level, I looked in her eyes, wanting her to see in my eyes what I am going to say now.

"I am not leaving you. I will never leave you, Khushi. I promise." Caressing her cheeks with the pad of my thumbs, I reassured her. "I am just gonna get some water for you ok? Then we'll get out of here."

Khushi nodded and I had this fierce urge to kiss her forehead. I tamped it down just as fast as it reared its head inside my mind. I can't do that. She is not mine. She'll never be mine.

We got out that club after Khushi drank the water I got for her. Inside my car now, she was just looking outside the window. With moonlight bathing her face and the wind blowing her hairs, she was looking ethereal. My heart once again constricted looking at her, knowing she will never know what I feel for her. Suddenly, It was too difficult to breath. Accepting that she's someone else's was hard enough but knowing she won't have any slightest of idea what I felt about her, ever, had my lung constricted, making the air pass through with difficulty.

Her house is near. In few minutes and she'll be gone. She'll not be beside me like she's now and I will again be alone with my thoughts in my mind and love, for her, inside my heart.

With sudden thought, I decided. I accepted that she can never be my girlfriend, my wife. But I would never accept having her oblivious of my feeling towards her.

Parking the car outside on the driveway of her house, I got down of the car and moved around to open the door for her. We walked till the door of her house. I watched as she stopped and turned towards me. At that moment I memorized every feature of her face. I knew I might not be able to at this beautiful face again.

"Thank you for getting me from there Arnavji." Khushi spoke.

"Your welcome."

"Good night." She said softly and turned to get inside her house.

"Khushi!" I had to do this.

She turned around with questioning look in her eyes. I took a step towards her.

"I have to say something to you." I started.

"Okay." She stood patiently looking at me to say whatever I want to.

"Before that I need you to know that I would never break my promise to you that I made today." I spoke wanting her to understand this clearly. "Know this khushi."

She smiled up at me. "I know Arnavji."

I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. *"I just have to say it once. You just need to hear it." Looking into her eyes, I spoke what I have wanted to from so long.

*"I love you, Khushi." Igoring the way her eyes widened and she took a step back, I continued. "And it's because I love ...I can't be selfish with you." I felt my eyes moisten up. "I don't deserve you...but my brother does." I did what I had wanted to do all this night. I placed my lips on her forehead and softly kissed her.

Moving away from her I reassured her. "I won't be a problem Khushi. I just wanted you to know my feeling about you. I am going away. I don't know when we would meet again, but remember my promise Khushi. I will never break it. I will be away just from you; I won't be leaving you unprotected."

I moved towards my car, but turned one last time to get a glimpse of her. She was staring at me."Have happy married life Khushi." I smiled at her and got inside my car to get away from her, from this place, from this country to give her the happiness she wanted. Her marriage with my brother, which would never be a happy event for her, if I stay here after what I have just told her.
