'Shunya', a film produced by Arindam Mitra and written by Anurag Kashyap, has an uncanny resemblance to the life and times of former Indian cricket captain Mohammed Azharuddin. In fact, the resemblance has made the Censor Board uncomfortable and they have insisted that the film carry a 'based on fiction' disclaimer.
The film is about the captain of the Indian cricket team who indulges in match-fixing along with a colleague. He is a married man and soon leaves his wife for a starlet. The resemblance to Azharuddin's life is definitely there. 'Shunya' stars Kay Kay Menon, as the cricketer and Tulip Joshi, who is reportedly playing the role of Sangeeta Bijlani.
The censors also took exception to the episodes in the cricketer's life which deal with underworld connections. There were a lot of four-letter words which they found inappropriate as well. Kashyap, it seems, can never stay away from trouble.
