Part 37
Khushi saw him emerge from the bathroom and look at her. She looked in his eyes, which were staring back at her. She averted her eyes from him and looked at Ebu in her arms.
Arnav looked at Khushi and then saw her averting her eyes from him. Letting out a soft sigh, he kept the towel on the recliner and sat there. After getting up he had made her have her breakfast, gave the meds, checked her temperature, which is fine now but she had not opened her mouth for even once. All she is doing is , staring at him when he is not looking at her and as soon as he looks at her, she averts her eyes. He wants to talk with her , but he don't know from where to start. ...What should he say. He wants to give a chance to them.
"Khushi?" He got up from the recliner and walked towards the bed. Sitting beside her, he took sleeping Abeer and laid him on left side of Khushi and shifted near her. "Are you ok now?" he touched her cheek.
Khushi nodded her head, not looking at him.
He looked at her. What is he supposed to tell her? He was never good at starting the conversation.
"Khushi ...I... I want to ask something ..." He looked at her. "Will you look at me?" he asked softly.
Khushi lifted her eyes to look at him, her eyes already brimming with fat tears.
"You are not well, Khushi. Please stop crying.." he wiped the lone tear that rolled down her cheek.
"I will cry , what will you do?" she swayed his hand away, sniffing.
Closing his eyes to compose himself, he bent over her and took her face between his plams.
"Khushi, listen to me. I ... I want to ask ..." He looked in her eyes. "What if ... What if we were not married ... I mean what if your Buaji was all fine ... And you were not in need of any money ... What then, Khushi? ... Kya phir bhi hum saath hote? ... we would have still married? How? You would have still said that you love me?" his ardent eyes seeking for some answers.
"Yes.." her eyes reflected surety. "Tab bhi hum saath hote. Buaji says marriages are made in heaven. If not through Buaji, we would have met in some other way.."
Arnav rested his forehead against her, a small smile playing on his lips.
"You have answer to every question, don't you?"
More tears poured out of her big almond shaped eyes.
"No. ... I don't have answer to every question .." she replied in a chocked voice.
"Shhh..." he kissed her cheek. "You have ... " he felt her hand traveling on his shoulder. Looking at her now closed eyes, he kissed her lips. "I ... I am afraid Khushi ... I don't know how to call something mine without feeling the fear of losing that thing. ... No one asks me before leaving me ... They just go, to never come back again ... I am happy seeing you and Ebu happy together ... But I am afraid of joining you both ... what if you too leave me ... just like others ... I am not strong .. you think I am ,but I am not ... I ..." Arnav felt his hands going cold, his hold on her face trembling.
Khushi placed her hands on his, her concerned eyes lingering on his face.
"Arnav ji ..."
"I don't know how to live without fearing the loss... I don't want to lose you, ... I can't take it this time ... That day when I got your accident's news , I ... I felt so helpless ... I felt like I will die if something happen to you .. Are you getting what I am trying to say? " Arnav asked. He don't know if he was making any sense, but he wants her to understand him, just like she always does. He wants her to understand that he will die without her. He want to warn her that she cannot leave him, but he was sure his words held nothing but a plea, a plea to never leave him.
Khushi lifted her one hand to rest on his cheek.
"I understand ... I understand you, Arnav ji. ... Trust me, I will never leave you. Never... I will always be with you... till Devi Maiya decides to ..."
"NO!" His trembling hold tightened on her cheek. "Not even Her this time. I want you to promise me... promise me that you will never leave me... no matter what .. You have to .."
"But Arnav ji .." she lifted her hand to rest on his other cheek but Arnav caught her hand mid air.
"No... if you love me, then you have to promise ... promise me you will not leave me , no matter what... Promise Khushi, just a promise and I will believe you ... I will trust you ..."
Tears again sprang in her eyes as she felt the desperation in his voice.
"Love is not about always living together, Arnav ji .." Khushi said through her clogged throat.
"For me it is ... You don't love me ,it's ok... But don't leave me , ever...Just..." His throat gave up, hot tears burning his eyes. He hugged her, crushing her soft frame in his strong arms. "Just stay with me, always ... I don't need anything else... " his throat paining as a tear rolled down his cheek. The fear clogging his mind and squeezing his heart in a painful grip.
Khushi ran her soothing hand on his back, wanting to take away his pain.
"Arnav ji, ... I can't promise you that ... It's not in my hand ...I ..."
"THEN HOW CAN YOU SAY YOU LOVE ME, DAMMIT!!" He shook her by her shoulder.
Khushi's wide eyes stared at him. She don't know how to describe his state. He was desperate for her promise, a promise which is not hers to make. She has to make a false promise to prove him her love?
"Arnav ji ...I .. can't promise that..." she felt his hold on her arms tightened. "But ... I promise to even fight Devi Maiya to be with you ..." She tried to smile. "I love you ... trust me please..."
Arnav closed his eyes as he again crushed her against him. His heart gripping with fear but still wanting to accept her love and push his fear in the darkest abyss.
"I ... I want to trust you ... But ... but everyone leaves me Khushi ... my parents ... jija ji ... Di ... everyone leaves me ...everyone..." He buried his face in her hair, his tears vanishing in her darkness.
"Don't say that ... you have Nani, who loves you more than anything... Mami who loves you just like her child ... Nanhe ji who loves and cares for you ... They are still there for you ... you should not think like that, Arnav ji ... " Khushi broke the hug and made him look at her.
"I promise to never leave you ..." She caught his hand in her. "as long as I am alive. ..." Khushi added, knowing very well she can't fight death. "You trust me now?" Khushi asked.
Arnav looked in her waiting eyes, waiting for his one yes.
"Yes... " Arnav said and he would have given anything to see the beautiful smile that bloomed on her lips.
"Thank you ..." Khushi hugged him. "Thank you , Arnav ji ..." happy tears chocked her throat. "I will never leave you ... promise ... the day I will leave you will be the last day of my life ..."
Arnav's hold on her tightened as he took her completely in his arms. He will not allow that. He don't need her love, all he need is her presence. He need her to be close to him, in his life, in his arms. Nothing else.
I know it's small, but I have to stop here as I have to take three months leap. Hope you liked it.
