Part 31
It was the day of the event. All the arrangements were done properly and the response of the audience was also good. It was a packed house. Here the team was giving final touches to their costumes and makeup. Taani entered the green room.
Taani: Guys all set?
Team: Yeah!
Taani: Great! Five minutes mein you are up, jaldi backstage aa jana.
She left the green room and the team soon got ready. All of them came backstage except Rey.
Taani: Rey kaha hai?
Niki: Voh andar hi hai, he'll take a bit more time.
Taani: Kyun?
Niki: Pata nahi, he looked different.
Taani: Different?
Sharon: Haan meine bhi notice kiya.
Taani left for the green room. On reaching there she found Rey holding a medal in his hands and staring at it, engrossed in deep thoughts. She went towards him and sat next to him. He sensed her and letting out a breath he spoke.
Rey: Yeh sab ek sapna lag raha hai. Yeh medal mera first medal hai jo meine school mein jeeta tha for the best dancer. Tabhi ek thought aaya tha ki mein dancer banunga. Fir yeh thought passion mein kab badal gaya pata hi nahi chala. I had never imagined that I'll be so lucky to successfully accomplish my dream. Aur ab jab dream poora hua hai toh ek darr lag raha hai. Sabko bohot jyada expectations hai mujhse and I don't know if I'll be able to fulfill them. What if I make a mistake?
Taani: Rey.
Rey: Hmn?
Taani: Mujhe sach sach batao, do you trust me?
Rey: More than myself! (He said looking at her.)
Taani: Then know that I have complete trust on you. I know you very well, and trust me when I say this, you will rock today's show!
He looked at her with glistening eyes. She cupped his face and placed a loving kiss on his forehead. She got up making him get up as well.
Taani: Ab chaliye, aapka dance start hone wala hai.
Both of them left the green room hand in hand. They were oblivious to the pair of eyes observing them. Those eyes were somewhat sad but majorly happy. They followed them out too.
The dance was mesmerising. Many more performances followed. The cheer of the crowd grew with each and every performance. The entire team was loved by the crowd. On their special request, Rey, Swayam and Sharon performed spectacular solos. After the long tiring event everyone gathered on the terrace of the hotel which was booked for them for this event.
Sharon: What an event!
Swayam: I agree.
Taani: Humara first event itna successful raha. Believe hi nahi ho raha!
Nil: Well iska credits tumhe jata hai. You managed it really well.
Niki: She didn't do it alone. (Her tone was a bit bitter.)
Sharon: Kisiko bura lag raha hai.😉
Simi: Bura lagega hi na Sharon.😛
Taani: Guys Niki is right. Yeh event itna organized tha as Shivam and Kriya helped me.
Shivam: But you deserve all the applauds.
Taani: Arre par?
Shivam: No arguments. Guys tum logon ko kya lagta hai?
Vicky: I agree. Taani managed it!
Niki (whispering to Rey): Tum kyun itne shaant ho?
Rey: Kuch nahi Nik.
Niki: Go to hell!😡
She abrupty shouted gaining everyone's attention and walked out from there leaving a totally confused Rey behind.
Rey: Isse kya hua?😕
Sharon: Usko chodo, tumhe kya hua hai?
Rey: Mujhe kya hoga? I'm perfectly fine.
Sharon: Taani please isko samjhao, yeh pagal ho gaya hai! Guys let.s leave them alone.
Everyone walked out excluding a very confused Rey and a smiling Taani behind.
Rey: Yeh sab chal kya raha hai? Pehle Nik gayi abhi Sharon?
Taani went and sat next to Rey intertwining her hands with his.
Taani: Aap yahin pe ho na?
Rey: Kya matlab?
Taani: Aap yahan physically present ho aur mentally absent.
Rey: No.
Taani: Yes. Aap kahan khoye huye ho?
Rey: Aaj event ke baad bohot hi khushi mehsoos ho rahi hai. You were right I performed my best today.
Taani: Kahan tha na? I know my boyfriend too well you see.
Rey: But your boyfriend is very bad. He didn't even thank you.
Taani: Mister, dare you say anything about my boyfriend! And he doesn't need to thank me, I can see it in his eyes.
Rey pulled her into a bone crashing hug. He left her after a while when something struck him.
Rey: Sharon kyun gayi voh mein samajh gaya, she wanted us to be alone here but Nik?
Taani: Aapki behen aapse naraz hoke chali gayi.
Rey: Naraz? Kyun?
Taani: Well she asked you something and you ignored her. Aur voh Niki hai, so usse gussa aa gaya. 😆
Rey: This girl. 😆
They heard a knock and looked towards the door. Kriya entered fully dressed up. Both looked at her and then at each other wondering why was she here and that too all dressed up? They got up from their earlier place and went towards her.
Taani: Kriya tum yahan aise? I mean..
Kriya: Haan, voh meri flight hai thodi der mein. I'm going to New York forever.
Taani: Tumne pehle kyun nahi bataya?
Kriya: Sab event mein itna busy the ki I chose to not tell anyone.
There was complete silence for sometime. They were looking at each other and just smiling when their eyes met the others. After a long time Kriya cleared her throat and spoke.
Kriya: Rey, kya mein aapse kuch der baat kar sakti hoon?
Rey: Haan kahon.
Kriya: Akele mein?
Taani: Tum dono baat kar lo. I'll be downstairs.
Rey looked at her retreating back as she left closing the door. He kept blankly staring at the door for a while.
Kriya: Rey.. (She spoke gaining his attention.)
Rey: Haan bolo?
Kriya: Thanks for agreeing to talking to me.
Rey gave her a half-hearted smile telling her to complete speaking whatever she wanted to say.
Kriya: Mein jabse wapas aayi hoon tabse I wanted to talk to you but vo ho nahi paya. Kabhi aap busy the toh kabhi aap mujse baat nahi karna chahate the..
She was cut off midway by Rey.
Rey: Kriya come to the point.
She took a deep breath and exhaled loudly.
Kriya: I just wanted to say that I'm really sorry for hurting you back then. Uss din jo bhi meine aapse kahan tha vo sab jhoot tha. Mom ke kehne par mujhe aapse durr rehna tha aur mein yeh jaanti thi ki agar mein aapko sach bolti toh aap mujhe jaane nahi dete. But aaj jab mein sochti hoon toh lagta hai ki meine jo kiya voh sahi tha. Agar mein aapki life se nahi jaati toh Taani aapke life mein nahi aati. And I believe with all my heart that she loves you a lot more than me.
Rey widened his eyes on hearing the indirect confession.
Rey: Wait a second, what did you mean by that?
Kriya: No you're getting me wrong. Humare beech mein pyaar nahi tha, bus attraction tha. It was just an infatuation. And we both are over it, but deep down somewhere there is a soft corner still left. I don't know about you but I do have it still left.
Rey: Dekho Kriya, I respect your feelings, but I love Taani!
Kriya: I know Rey. And I also know that you two trust each other very well. And I'm very happy for you.
Rey: Toh tum yeh sab kyun keh rahi ho?
Kriya: Mein bas yeh kehna chahati hoon ki please don't hate me. Mujhe meri mistakes ke liye maaf kardo, please.
Rey: Firstly, I don't hate you and secondly, I forgive you.
Kriya: Thank you so much Rey. Aur haan Taani ko aap apne first medal se bhi atchese sambhal ke rakhna.
Rey: Tumhe kaise?
Kriya: Mein tum dono ki baatein sunli thi. She is really an awesome girl.
Rey: She surely is.
Kriya forwards her hand for a handshake but Rey rather pulls her into a friendly hug surprising her. Meanwhile the terrace door flungs open and Niki along with Taani is standing there with wide eyes. Rey and Kriya break the hug and look at them. Rey looks at Taani feeling a bit tensed, but his tension wipes off when he sees her giving a genuine smile. He then looks over at Niki and finds her glaring at him.
Niki: Pehle apni behen ko ignore karo aur fir apni girlfriend ko bhi ditch kar do! What kind of a person are you?
Kriya: Niki, you are getting it all wrong.
Niki: Keep shu..
Her sentence was left midway as Rey pulled her into a bone crashing hug he left her after a while and said still side hugging her.
Rey: Tumhe yeh hugs ka dose daily basis pe dena chahiye. Warna gusse se dimaag fatt jana hai kabhi. Kitna gussa bhara hai?
Niki: Abh mein kya karu? Jab tak gussa nahi karti tab tak koi pyaar hi nahi karta. (She pouted.)
Rey: Olelelele.. mela bachcha. (He placed a kiss on her forehead.)
The four of them came downstairs where the rest of the team was waiting for them. They all bid Kriya good bye and wished her a happy life ahead. After she left, Rey and Taani were walking down the hotel lobby chitchatting. Suddenly Rey asked.
Rey: How were you so calm when you saw me and Kriya hugging?
Taani: Oh come on Rey, I know she was your past and all but I also know that I'm your present and hopefully your future too, so mera Kriya se jealous hona was impossible.
Rey: Hopefully se tumhara matlab kya hai?
Taani: Kahin aap apna mind change kar lo.
Rey: Miss Taani Shekhawat, tumhe iss janam mein toh mujhse chutkara nahi milne wala. Tumhe Shekhawat se Singhania banaunga yeh mera wada hai.
Her eyes had tears of happiness. Rey had indirectly proposed her. Her dream had come true. She couldn't contain the growing happiness and hugged him tight.
Taani: I would love to be Taani Singhania for all my lives.
