Supi,
thanks for liking the edit..
I was just telling Sohara how much I loved that scene, particularly given Khushi's hesitation to go close to him unable to gauze his state of mind, and his thwarting her uncertainty in a beautiful intimate way... one ever lasting moment...
great to see you talking... You should make one of your khatarnaak (thanks kizh) collages when we reach there here..

Indu.. have been desparately wanting to come here and talk.. finally am here..
I had no idea about Vaidehi.. For me the IPK scene that made me feel I had walked into the pages of a novel was when in anger in episode 80 he jerks her towards her and the fireworks that followed... there was anger and helplessness and not being able to simple walk away indifferent... hurt.. hatred.. and already the undeniable kindling of love.. this loss of control the first signs of love beyond reason, beyond what might be termed a safe and normal feeling... In that anger I saw Elizabeth and Darcy and so many other characters I love.

Now coming to your beautiful writeup of the their time together after the showdown.. As I was saying earlier.. it seems hard to believe that the loud scenes were by the same creators who gave us this sublime interlude between Arnav and Khushi. You may laugh but I often feel that I learn a lot from IPK that helps me understand real life better. Like Sohara I would have wished that Arnav held Khushi close and slept, but in reality the fact that he could reach out to her in his present state already shows his immense love and understanding towards her. He put her before himself as best as he could. Also her maturity in not asking for more from him felt really nice to me. Both helped each other survive. It was really inspiring to see how words often are superfluous in matters of the heart. Another scene that comes to mind in when ASR finally talks about his mothers suicide and all Khushi does is hug him. In real life i would perhaps have tried to console with words and made things much worse. Now thanks to our dear sankadevi I know much better.

I agree with what you say about ASR trying to comfort both women and make it right for both. I also think a few episodes later when he starts his winning back Khushi abhiyan is a normal thing in life. A husband and wife become their own small world, the closest bound units and as much as he cared for Anjali, his feeling happy around Khushi or loosing himself in the fun of winning her back felt completely natural to me. I wish Khushi maanoed a little more easily though considering the man himself had gone through hell the past months.

Rhea,
No laughing at learning stuff from IPK. there is some thing to learn every where , what to do and what NOT to do, both equally imp. So yes there will be stuff to learn from these two azeebs too.
Talking always doesn't help.. esp in extreme delicate scenarios like that pool side. Yes khushi not pushing him is very very welcoming... respecting his SPACE.. you know how much ever close two people may be, every one needs certain space... thanks to the writers, they let her mature this moment and let the silence talk.. wrote some thing for this episode, hope to dig..
He sleeping by khushi's side, that would be natural instinct looking from Khushi's perspective. But how can he tuck in and sleep cozily by his wife's side even for consoling, when his sister at that specific moment is heart broken having lost the very same thing. That wouldn't be appropriate. very sadly, Anjali was shown to be foolishly delusional. Even if she were to be mature, the first few days would be raw.
Vaidehi was the original name given to IPK. Couple of articles about that..
There was always a chance of story going in that direction with him leaving her when she is pregnant. Even on the day of remarriage, it was a huge suspense if he would come or not, there were chances of him not coming back and story going Vaidehi way. But ofcourse not to be.
Liz and Darcy, very much they are. I am sure Gul read it 1000 times..
running to watch 80...😊

Indu, Rhea, enjoying the convo.
That comfort level between them is good to see, especially khushi, she's not afraid to give into her impulse to hug, hold on to him.
But Indu, you were so right, in saying, that ASR did not come back after the kidnap! Irresponsible writing all around. And I didn't see the need for that feticide too, can't imagine who would enjoy watching some thing like that. Anjali is a lost soul currently, emotionally always dependent I feel. But that's not always the impression you got in the beginning don't you think? Came across as quite a strong woman.
Can I say something, felt really bad for khushi when he ranted at her after that suicide fiasco by Anjali. I think we sometimes tend to underestimate the impact of spoken words. Even if we can understand why somebody says something in the heat of the moment, doesn't mean it hurts less. For her, finally she was starting to get comfortable and secure with him and then he goes says all that stuff. Can't really blame him, its a difficult situation to be in. Oh well, I think we'll be talking and analyzing these two for quite a while!!😆
And that khatarnaak term is from the man himself! Used it in an interview to describe his chemistry with SI. Was surprised actually, normally I've always felt that he sort of tends to brush it off.

Kizhy, actually he CAN be blamed for loosing temper yet again with Khushi after Anjali's suicide attempt.. I was waiting for Khushi to leave him and go ever since Diwali, thought this was the final nail.. not to be..:) But inspite I love him to death.. know why.. becos he has been so utterly human and realistic not trying to be mahaan..he falters, he regrets, he apologizes..so relatable..
Anjali was indeed very strong initially and to show her trying to abort her fetus becos her now present now absent husband is not there is positively nauseating...sorry cant be smooth with that..
Oh yeah I recall that khatarnaak thing.. thanks for reminder..
How to move on from these two??!!

Oh that gussa of his! Yes he knows he says things he doesn't mean when he falls under its grip.
And nobody is bothered about the man, he was kidnapped and came home after so many days! That was something I couldn't stomach. Nauseating is bang on. Did the brains of the CVs go on vacation those days?!!!
Just remembered something, when khushi doesn't take that sari (with crystals one!), he goes to NK's room and says "itna gussa aa raha hai, you've no idea what's going on"!!!😆 Felt so natural!

As nothing special to post from this episode, I am posting one of my favorite edit from IF's creation gallery.
The credit goes to Rafaheli. She is amazing.

episode-268

Khushi becomes crestfallen to see the pitcher. She feels a hollow sensation inside her. Her eyes are flickering with pain and confusion. She avows that she will get Arnav back by hook or by crook. She will even go to any extent to rescue him.

her in RM, Mami is panicking for Khushi, how cum she didn't reach from her maternity home yet.

"dishipleen naam ki koi cheez haina"...she is chiding her out of wariness.

She calls at GH. After a long time got to see bua's delectable face. She can't ask her directly about khushi as bua herself wants to talk to Khushi. Anjali also comes to ask about Khushi. Mami is in a nonplus situation. She tells Anjali, that Khushi is in the washroom, washing her hands. but bua will wait, cause she wants to talk to her. Mami says she will take longer time as she is filling water. Bua thinks that they have crisis of water in shantivan too.

Arnav, the ocean is missing from the house; so there must be scarcity of water in RM. And Khushi is trying to fill the water, because she is the one who is trying to get Arnav back.

Bua even offers mami to send water from Laxminagar. How sweet of bua, cares their daughter's in laws family so much! mami thinks, there is no point to linger this nonsense conversation with bua. She called to know about Khushi's whereabouts, as she is not there; she cuts the call and gets worried.

Khushi comes to the warehouse again to look for Arnav. She searches everywhere, but he is not here any more. Fortunately she found her bautua there. She gets her phone, but the phone is also dead. She is thinking what to do, whether she should call police or not. She averts her thought, because the family will come to know then.

mami's tension for Khushi increases more. She is also thinking to report to the police, but changes her mind for anticipating trouble. She is thinking to let the family know instead.

But if both of Arnav bitua and phatti saree's life come to danger, then what!".. The thought daunts her.

The family is gathered for the breakfast. Nani is teasing Payal for blushing as she is going with Akash for lunch. She is one of the sweetest nani, who always tries to fix the relationship of her grandchildren with their spouses. She always does it with Anjali and Arnav. She was the one who thought to send Arnav and Khushi to honeymoon when she noticed differences between them. Later when it didn't work, she planned the heer-ranjha act to bring them closer. Now when she sees Akash is too occupied with his work and Payal is getting lonely, she is trying to bring them closer.

Mami is escared because Khushi is out of home for 24 hours. She needs to tell everybody now.

"attenson pileese...i want to say something to you"...mami is almost ready to say about Khushi's disappearance, then the door bell rings and Khushi enters. khushi calls her mamiji twice. But she is so tensed that can't hear her call. Finally she heaves a sigh of relief to see her. Nani gets incredulous to see her tension for Khushi. She knows very well that mami is not so amicable to Khushi. She asks her why she thought that Khushi may not aright. Suddenly all of their looks go to Khushi's dirty clothes.

By the way, where the rip of the sleeve gone? Where did she find sui-dhaga to stitch it!

khushi says she is fine, but she needs to tell everybody something. Mami also says the same thing. Khushi is about to talk about Arnav, but a phone call interrupts her. Anjali becomes worried and asks her what happened to chottey. Khushi wants to receive the phone call first.

"Arnav is alive, but until you keep silent. If you say anything to anybody, just imagine Arnav is finished"...the man on the other side of phone threatens Khushi. after hearing such frightening call, how can a person remain nonchalant! Anxiety reflects on her visage. Anjali guesses something is wrong and becomes tensed as well. She asks her, what happened. Khushi is in impediment, can't understand what to say. Then the master mind of all the mishap, the evil Shyam intervenes, Khushiji, what's the matter?

khushi gives him a despicable look. She already suspects him for the kidnapping, she just doesn't trust this nefarious guy.

Anjali scurries fast to her; she wants to know what is wrong with chottey. Khushi keeps silent for some moment, trying to make story inwardly. She feigns a smile and says her that Arnav is fine, he called her yesterday. Anjali thanks God, she ask her how is he...When he is coming back...is he taking his medicine regularly? khushi's heart cringes painfully, cause she knows in what condition Arnav is in. Anjali is sullen at Arnav, that he didn't call her once since he left. Shyam tries to aberate her, because he is seeing Khushi's tensed face and knows very well that Khushi has come after meeting him. He says Anjali to let her breathe, how she can answer all the questions? khushi again pretends to be happy and says her that he is fine and taking his medicine regularly and will come back after his deal will finalized.

shyam also adds, he will come back after finalizing the deal. How he knows so well! Is he in touch with him!

Khushi can't control her emotions any more. She needs to flee from everybody's sight, cause she doesn't know how long she can keep her semblance.. She wants to go freshen up. nani wants to know, how her clothes became dirty! khushi was about to say that near buaji's house, but mami averts her; she says, "she must've fallen down, she always trips and falls."

Khushi gives her a smile of gratitude. Anjali tells her to join them after freshen up, they will have breakfast together. khushi says she already had breakfast in buaji's house and she goes to change. Anjali becomes suspicious, cause she already knows Khushi was not in buaji's house. nani is smart, she anticipates mami's tension and asks her why she called buaji's house. mami lies that there is water problem in her house, you didn't see in what condition phatti saree has returned! To allay their suspicion, she laughs, hello hi bye bye.

khushi is in embroilment, what she should do next, whether go to police or to the detective agency! Mami intervenes her thought, she ask her where did she go last night? Because she knows that she didn't go to her maternity home. She was about to tell the truth to everybody, but she came and started to lie.

"You are hiding things from your invhestigason partner! Not fair." mami rankles.

mami's words makes Khushi erupts in tears. She hugs her, "mami ji,"

"I can't do anything; neither I can tell anybody anything." She is in resentment.

Mami tries to comfort her, "it's ok, no more tears, itni zada tears mei contol nahi kar sakti."

She closes the door and asks her what's the matter; where she was last night; did she really talk to Arnav yesterday?

khushi tells her about their last night meeting. mami is bewildered, "what, where, how, where is! Arnav bitua, why he didn't come with you?"

Khushi tells her everything, how she met him, how they fled and finally in the hut, how he made her faint and went with the goons.

"To save me he surrendered to those people." Khushi thinks she is reprehensible.

Mami exasperates so much that she wants to go to the police station right now and let the family know as well. khushi admonishes her, tells her about the threatening phone call. But at the same time she knows that she has to get Arnav by hook or by crook. She can't lose him at any cost.

"hume Arnavji wapas chahi ye, yaha humari sath surakshit.(I want my Arnavji back, here, with me, safe and sound.)"

In the hut after sharing those intimate moments with him, she became more desperate know.

"Hum arnav bitua ko le aiyve, I will sure bring back Arnav"...mami aspires and gives Khushi an assuring nod. She tries to give her some solace too,

"but this time is not for shedding tears, rather we should take care of ourselves."

khushi is cursing herself, that she should do something to refrain him, she should made him unconscious. mami again tries to assuage her, that she tried. Now both of them will try and will be successful for sure.

"Detective manoroma is with you. Now Arnav bitua ko hello hi aur kidnapper ko bye bye kariaga pari."

Payal comes to the official lunch with Akash, but she is so nervous that Akash teases her that most of the people are vegetarian here, so they will not eat her up. She feels outlandish in front of all ostentatious people and starts to behave awkwardly.

couldn't agree more... and anyway, you are born into this way of life, and unless you actively discard it, you remain part of the idea... plus, hinduism is one of the only ways of life perhaps that equally embraces theism, that too of all expressions, and atheism. all valid in hindu thought.

living with a sense of your duty perhaps is more important than whether you did pooja path or not. i am so delighted that asr was accepted with his point of view... said to me that somewhere a large section of audience has evolved to understand character beyond expressed religious feelings. actually we had much more open and broad minded view of religion in our older films i feel than we have in tv serials today.

episode 277

sometimes a thing is so perfect i just sit back and watch astounded, a happiness spreading. i still remember the first time i saw this teri meri sequence. i had no idea that was about to happen... asr was sitting with his back against a wall, despair etched across his visage and loneliness, when suddenly he seemed to go right into himself and then this appartion like thing rose from within and walked out.

i had of course seen such things in movies and somehow asr doing that was just not in any way asr. by now the lack of barun had started taking its toll and i think i was ready to throw up my hands and do a dramatic shrug to denote this episode to was a goner... when i noticed a crazy weird wonder yearning something in his eyes and the white linen shirt... billowing... also there were fairy lights.

think my post the next day said, he has stolen that shirt from my cupboard since i am a white linen lover and often in my floaty white shirts.
he looked like a sailor who had spotted a mermaid while lost at sea and scatterbrained from too much sun.

i went looking for my piece on crooner and here is what i'd written to honeypriya, i feel exactly that even now:

hope you did read my note on the extra-logical space i roam with ipk.

this story pulls me somewhere else, makes me want to flow with it. you are right, its storyteller is different, touched by something way outside the normal span of television narratives. great writers often speak of how a character comes to life and leads the teller, has that happened with the story of ipk? does it call its writers to frontiers unknown and they follow finding the right path through sheer instinct and extreme skill?

i didn't see a dream there. i saw that flowing of two inseparables toward each other. she stood there on the spot where such dreams had started, a payal clasped on, and thought of him intensely. he lifted his head and left his body without volition as though he'd heard something and looked and there she was, in the colours of the surf, the waves, the ocean, the sky, and he in his pearlescent white went and merged with her. that perfectly poised streak of red on her forehead and the dance of ebb and flow told the tale of a man who longed for his mate, his patni, and a woman who grew from a girl to a woman only after he made a mark in her life. the words cascaded in perfect meaning and time stopped meaning anything. only three and a half minutes?

i floated with them for hours. they were in my room last night, i counted my loose white linen shirts, had he taken one of them?

i am so with you on this neo-surreal heightening of the story. it is precisely that. the linking of dreams from her nightmare amid thorns with its scattered pearls, payal, key. we have been touching those clues in reality, in surreality. and why surreality seems not at all absurd is because those who have loved know it isn't.

beyond the oceans, beyond the skies, where galaxies swim in endless seas, love takes you there and says, come meet. to flow into the vast embrace of this emotion you have to give hard reality a slip from time to time, for that's where the emotion lives, nurtures, grows; sometimes so much it becomes a story, a story we want to hear again and again. and feel in our lives.

for a while now, ever since the initial attraction between two people started to change colour and enter their beings, till love has found utterance in faraq padta hai and saansey ruk jaygi, we've been to extra real spaces with them. the dreams, the reveries, the hut with its magical trove of required things. i am spellbound by this daring stretch of imagination. grateful that someone was willing to take that risk.

(i have taken out a part i no longer feel the same about... shall chat about it at the end.)

sanaya looked beautiful yesterday. and i don't mean just physically. the girl growing up into a woman that i first witnessed on that walk from anjali's room to arnav and her room straight after his i love you, the one who fearlessly walked into her dream with him, extending her hand and silencing his remorse, she has grown even more into the woman who is his patni, in bangla a lovely word, stree. yes priya, i agree as yet an innocent wife, beautiful isn't it. oh she was definitely there with him today, and even after he returned to the cell and sat down, she took a moment before walking away slowly.

his "khushi!" bridged surreal and the three dimensions that bind us. as she spun around, desperation in her eyes, she was a wife who can hear the call as she lands back in reality and their meeting is over for the moment.

hitchcock comes to mind sometimes when i look at the kidnap and the planning and plotting. all of this is just red herring, mcguffin, the real story is that pyaar. and of course, sanaya, is classic hitchcock leading lady, cool on the outside, smouldering within. so we had read way back in college. didi ki saut they might have wanted to call it but iss pyaar ko kya naam doon? wanted to get written. so happy the writers didn't resist.

this is what i scribbled and edited as i watched the scene this time.

a girl stands waiting by the water thinking of the one she loves... classic lover's demeanour and pose, a lost air, bereft... viraha. she is radha, she is heer, she is khushi by their poolside and he isn't there. what use is the balcony to juliet if romeo isn't going to climb to it... what use is the poolside to khushi if arnav ji won't bully her here and make her walk backward in terror, in desire, or kiss her, or slip on that payal.

the stars shine up there... i think of you... payal, make me wear that payal again... brush the lock off my forehead, touch my face, love me...
hold my dupatta in your hand draw me close... kiss me... i miss you...

yet, he is not that far away, he can feel you thinking, he lifts his head, a baffling despair...

and from deep in him, a part does rise... that which nothing can shackle, nor harm, nor burn... na hannyate, it cannot be destroyed...

within us, the eternal part that is really truly us...

and before him she floats, also arisen... never to be held down or tied... she seeks him and he is here. he yearns for her and look, there she is.

this is the story of a love that perhaps should not be told, just felt. and danced to.

what might have been ridiculous... two actors never failed to make sublime.

the wind came swishing like the breath of the universe, saansey... and wrapped space in its dream...

among hard naked bulbs, fairy lights gleamed... in a hard, heartless space filled with cartons and odd wooden furniture, ladders, ropes and remarkably unpretty things, the essence of two people met and merged and made love and everything was, in direct contrast to what was all around, absolutely beautiful.

it was a set and yet it was not...

a girl in white with trimmings of prussian blue stood with an air that said she was sad, she missed him, where was he...

a white shirt billowed, here, i was here all the time... sand and surf and oceans met, pearls dropped through the mingling...

where are you? i am here... your and mine, mine and your... our story of love is difficult...

why do you smile at me, girl in flying dupatta, always there you're always there, the touch of your dupatta near my bosom, my chest...

how her dupatta always knew how to find him... unerringly from that day at the mazar and so many times later... and when a dupatta flew from his hand, it had known where to land... where to find her.

the wind rises and calls the lovers to prayer, to belief, for this is a temple surely, a place sacred and precious and pure... (so those sham temple bells were perhaps perfectly placed here, who knows.)

walk, i will walk to you, lover, crossing barriers that i have carefully nurtured and held my world steady with... walls of reason, impenetrable, insurmountable, but see i walk through it now and over it... for the wind does call...

and i will come to you like a wave, the ocean or am i just a sad lonely girl by the water, missing my lover... yet here i am, come to you... reason? was there ever a need for that, did my heart ever grasp one, i was here even when reason said i oughtn't be.

teri meri meri teri
prem kahani hai mushkil...
do lavzon mein yeh bayan na ho paye

ek doojey se hue jooda jab ek dooje ke liye bane...

lovers meet and unite... feel and touch each other... turn and flow without any shame, any taboo, skin invites the feel of love, skin awakens and reaches... the flesh is as much a part of our essential selves, and our identity too.

his arm reached out when she reached him and he touched her lower back with a sense of right, possessive, he jerked her close to him, slamming against her skin. she stayed there straining against him, her body arched...

the first time they danced to these words together, they both longed yet didn't know how to say it even to themselves... yet before everyone their desire did assert itself and take them away to a world where no one but they were present... there was an escape from the three dimensional even then.

now they both know what they seek, and their yearning gathers force creating a world where indeed no one but just the two of them embrace, circle, hold and possess and speak of love without saying a word... in a parallel realm. and the song plays.

he held her face in his hands not quite believing it was indeed she. and she was gone. he felt lost, but then she came running to him and held him tight... she told him she couldn't live without him perhaps. he turned and grasped her in the most tender and yet sensual embrace...

tumse dil jo lagaya toh jahan maine paya...

kyun khuda tuney aisa mujhe khab a dikhaya jab haqiqat mein use todna tha...

he smiled at her as he sang... why such dreams must be shown if they are only to be broken.

the walls returned and the naked bulb, he was alone. but "khushi!" he said out loud as though calling out to someone not too far away... and she did hear him.

she did. every time.

however the first time i saw this episode, i had written some things which i no longer view the same way... at that point i had not seen the whole show and was still brimming with hope. i wrote:

"anjali got an obvious and clear moment to start getting curious. nice opening.

shyam at the poolside, i rather enjoyed, again great writing, there was his desire to be everything he isn't namely, asr. that's the feeling i got. if only a poolside and a chair and a few billion rupees is all it took to make an asr."

yes, anjali could have grown into a really interesting character, had they stuck to an idea and progressed it. she saw khushi and shyam together a couple of times, even noticed it, yet later these were not even referred to.

and no, this time when i saw shyam at the poolside, i just wanted to haul him up and throw him out. but it was a clever way of telling us just how badly he wanted to be as big and on top of things as his saaley saab. so he sat on asr's chair at asr's poolside and planned to swipe asr's money, property and yes, asr's wife.

might have been great, but again, weak melodramatic dialogues and loud direction and acting.

one last thought: there were two palats by khushi in the episode. one to shyam and the other to asr... i wonder again was this mirroring thing done deliberately or it was just a coincidence.
