Rangrasiya's Rudra - The Intelligent Hero
Color's Rangrasiya has brought us an intelligent hero in the form of Major Rudra Pratap Ranawat (Ashish Sharma). Rudra belongs to one of the rare breeds of strong and intelligent television heroes. The characterization of Rudra is so appealing to viewers because of the many layers he possesses.
Television is quite women centric so it is always a welcome change to get a strong male character. Rudra's intelligence has always been one of his stronger suits. He knew Laila's (Ankita Sharma) intentions and what she was really up to, even though everyone else around him was blind to it, other than Mohini (Ananya Khare) and that was only because Mohini was in on the plans. He knew Laila pretty well which gave him an advantage, however, his intelligence does not fail him when it comes to the new villain, Shantanu (Vishal Karwal).
Shantanu has come into Rudra and Paro's lives as a BSD officer, who is there to keep Rudra's family, especially Paro safe. While it may seem that Shantanu has been a step ahead of Rudra so far, it is Rudra's basic instincts that make him distrust Shantanu, irrespective of the fact that he has come as an officer.
It will be interesting to see how Rudra tackles an unknown villain. So far, he had faces to his enemies and knew the reasons why they were doing what they were doing; whether it was Thakur Tejawat (Tarun Khanna) or Laila. But now he is facing an unknown enemy who is after all that is precious to him. It will start off with his job at the BSD. Is Shantanu behind Rudra being told to take time off from work and see a doctor or is it a plan by Rudra himself to bring out his enemy?
One other hand, the fact that needs to be noted is the sheer brilliance with which Ashish Sharma has been enacting Rudra. There are very few actors who can get into their character's skin in a such way that they erase away their own identity. It is actually surprising to see Ashish in Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa or interviews because regular viewers of Rangrasiya has become too much accustomed with his "The Rudra personality". Ashish has brought Rudra to life, he has given him a face, body and of course, it goes without saying, a moustache. Credit also needs to be given to the creative team for coming up with a character that is so layered and an absolute delight to watch.
