Time is too slow for those who wait, too swift for those who fear, too long for those who grieve, too short for those who rejoice, but for those who love, time is eternity.
Chapter - 1
(banner credit goes to appy!)
It was dawn. The sun was slowly rising, filling the world with light, the whole world, except for one room, where not even a speck of light was permitted to enter. And there he was, in the middle of that dark room, his eyes red and swollen, which looked terrible and... scary. His face was trickling with sweat and the wall was the one which had to face his anger. A large crack appeared on the old wall of that room as he banged his fist into it, making blood ooze from his hands. He didn't know why he was so restless today. So restless that sleep had distanced itself from him. This was not the first day. From the past 2-3 months, the same dream was haunting him... a pair of warm brown eyes were looking at him lovingly, making him feel jitters down his spine, but that warmth lasted only for a brief moment and then suddenly, it just disappeared before he could figure out who it belonged to. How he wished he could find out why these dreams were haunting him. Not exactly haunting him, because this dream made him feel good, it made him feel normal... which he was not from the past 10 years. The word normal had disappeared from his life 10 years ago. Though he was putting on a good show in school and now college, he couldn't run away from the strange happenings of his life. He was actually living a nightmare all these years. Unaware to himself, angry tears made way through his eyes.
His thoughts were suddenly broken by the beeping of his cell phone. He wiped his tears and looked at his phone, only to find a message from Swayam. "Swayam Shekhawat, the only best and loyal buddy Reyaansh Singhania ever had." he thought, as he smiled through his tears. His eyes widened as he read the message, which said "Bro! Wake up! Get ready for the drama club's meeting at 8:30 am." He looked at the time now. Drat! It was 7:45 in the morning! He just had 45 minutes to get ready. Cursing his stupid dream for not getting him good sleep, he got out of the room to get ready.
Sun rays filled into a room, bright and warm, making a girl pull her blanket over her head to protect her eyes from the bright sunlight. But, sleep was far away from her. Every time she closed her eyes, his face was all that she could see. His enchanting smile, his dark mysterious eyes, his musky scent, his rough lips...
Suddenly, cold water splashed on her, breaking her trance and making her jump with fury.
"Sharon!!!" she screaming, reaching for a pillow to hit her best friend cum enemy.
"Good morning Sleeping Beauty! Apni prince charming ke dream world se baahar aajao!" said Sharon with a smirk.
Her mouth formed a perfect o' when her best friend guessed where she was lost. But, she shouldn't be. "Sharon Rai Prakash is the only person who knows the real Taani Gupta!" she thought, as her lips pulled at the corners.
"Oye Taani!" shouted Sharon, for the 5th time, bringing Taani out of her thoughts.
"Haan Sharon! I'm awake now! Just stop nagging me now." she said, with a cute pout on her face.
"Hey stupid, aaj 8:30 ko drama club ka meeting hai, about this year's play production. Don't you want to attend?" asked Sharon, a sly smile playing on her lips. If there is one thing she loved next to her "Prince Charming", it was acting.
"Hey Krishnaji! Main bhool kaise gayi aaj ke meeting ke baare mein! Arre yaar, main phir se late ho jaaungi!" she wailed, as she got out of her bed.
"Oh my god Taani darling! You can't afford to get late! He will also be there today. The earlier you reach, the more you can see him." said Sharon, faking a shocked expression.
"Shut up Sharon! You are making me nervous!" yelled Taani, jumping out of her bed in a hurry.
"Hey... aaram se. Agar tu ab gir jaayegi na, toh tum meeting attend nahi kar sakti." said Sharon, making Taani even more nervous.
Taani put her tongue out and sneered at her in a childish way. Sharon laughed at her harebrained friend and fled from, because she knew that Taani hated being laughed at and the consequences were hazardous. Shaking her head in fury, Taani went to the washroom to freshen up. Her mind was totally preoccupied with only two things; the play and... Rey. Her heart gave an excited thump as she thought of meeting him. She finished dressing up and took a few deep breaths. Taking one last look at herself in the mirror, she sped off with Sharon to her happy place.
The Circle Youth Production was a small auditorium with all necessary equipments for a play and 2-3 dressing rooms and a wide hall to set a play. Today, the auditorium seemed to be filled with enthusiastic students crowding around to discuss the play production for the spring. In stepped Miss. Sheila, the producers of the plays and the owner of the Circle Youth Production. Every student in the club admired her. She smiled at the enthusiastic crowd. She went to the stage to address the crowd in her crisp and curt voice.
"The next production..." said Sheila, making sure that she had everybody's attention, "will be Romeo and Juliet."
Everyone in the room gasped. Taani turned towards her friends, her eyes shining. "Seriously guys?!! Did I hear right? Romeo and Juliet! Wow..." she exclaimed, her cheeks turning red with excitement.
However, many others from the club didn't look pleased.
"I just hate Shakespeare!" moaned Nil, a boy with a stubble and spiky hair. "Such stupid language of his... why couldn't he just use proper English yaar?" he asked, looking dismayed.
"He did use proper English." said Sheila, giving him a spiteful look. "It was not his fault that you were born 400 years too late to appreciate it." she said
Everybody in the group laughed, making him go crimson in embarrassment.
Sheila waved some sheets of paper in the air. "I'll be holding auditions next week. So, those who want to audition will practice an act from the play and enact them in front of me. Also, be very sure of which part you are going to play. And remember, my decision is final. There's no dropping out, even if you think that the language is stupid." said Sheila, glaring at Nil.
Excited talks broke out as soon as the announcements were over.
"Tumhe try karna chahiye Taani! You should try for Juliet. You look perfect!" exclaimed Sharon, looking at Taani with eager eyes.
Taani was sitting with her gang of friends, which obviously included Sharon and two others, Neha and Simmi.
Taani blushed at Sharon's comment. "It's not just about looks Sharon!" said Taani, shyly.
Sharon, Neha and Simmi smiled at their friend's nervousness.
"You know what? Jab tum dialogues bolti ho na, bohot natural diktha hai, lekin, jab main bolti hoon, aisa lagta hai jaise main book se padh rahi hoon." said Neha, amusing Taani very much.
"Neha! Tum bhi na! Tujhe bhas practice ki zaroorat hai." said Taani, laughing at Neha's solemn expression.
"Arre haan! Taani plays aur acting mein bohot interested hai. Jab dekho library se Shakespeare books hi borrow karti hai. I'm sure sabse zyada plays ke baare mein Taani hi jaanti hai." said Simmi, giving an encouraging look to Taani.
"Aisa nahi hai guys! It's just that, I love Romeo and Juliet'. I can't believe ki Sheila ne yeh choose kiya." said Taani, looking embarrassed.
"You should definitely try for Juliet, Taani." said Simmi.
"Especially, if Reyaansh is going to be Romeo." said Sharon, with a cheeky smile.
The four pair of eyes turned towards the other side of the room, where a tall boy with jet black hair, deep brown eyes and an enchanting grin was laughing with his friends. Simmi and Neha sighed in unison.
"He is just too gorgeous for words!" said Neha, in a gloomy tone.
"He is far out of our league." joined in Simmi, in the same gloomy tone.
Taani looked at Sharon to see if Sharon's eyes were on Rey too. But she saw that Sharon was looking in the same direction, but not at Rey. Taani was about to ask Sharon, when Simmi interrupted saying...
"I can't believe that he's joined our club. I never we'd get closer to seeing him in school." said Simmi, her eyes still fixed on him.
"I don't think we'll any closer now. He'll never notice us." said Neha, sighing.
Taani said nothing. So did Sharon. Sharon seemed lost, looking in some other direction, while Neha and Simmi continued with their boy talks. But, Taani found it hard to joke about Rey. She knew that Simmi and Neha fancied him, but it just in a non-serious way. But his smile did funny things to her insides. She sometimes found it hard to sleep because his face was that she could see when she closed her eyes. They were not even in the same class and she had barely spoken to him. But whenever she stepped into the bus, her heart gave a leap when she caught sight of him.
"I'm sure that he is going to be Romeo. He is the best looking and he is brilliant in acting too." said Simmi, looking confident.
"Mujhe lagta hai, Mercurito is a better part. It has more life. Romeo is a very passive character." said Taani, trying her best not to look at Rey.
"But, does Mercurito get to kiss anyone?" asked Simmi.
"No! He dies in a fight." said Taani with a laugh.
"What a waste?!!!! No, he should be Romeo and you should play Juliet. You both would make a perfect couple." said Neha.
Taani felt a crackle of excitement inside her. Not just about Rey being Romeo, but Juliet was her dream role. Could she really get it? And if Rey was really cast as Romeo, then...
"Everybody make way for the soon-to-be Juliet!" shouted a voice, startling everyone.
Taani and her gang turned around to see the gorgeous and stunning Kriya', the diva of the college, making her way into the room...
