Precap:-
"You are insulting me!" She yelled back equally furiously.
"Insult? Didn't you feel insult while giving away your conscience for mere pieces of paper... how easy it was for you to deceive Astha. I could never have imagined. How long have you been working for them? Why should i even ask!"
"Enough!" Her boiling anger stung her eyes. She could defend herself no more. Not when she didn't even know what was she defending herself for. She ran away. Astha never expected herself to do so under such circumstances, she was the one to be brave enough to face, but nothing of the sort had ever happened. She slammed her fingers on the lift's buttons. Inside she realised she had pressed it for the top instead of the ground floor. Exasperated and out of emotions she ran out on the rooftop. She wanted to cry and yell and tear her hair apart.
Hours passed by and she sat there idle, even the tears failed to escape anymore. A dried up track was visible on her cheeks, her red nose and blood shot eyes made her look miserable.
"What is happening? I never did that.. How can i? Then why me?" She sobbed. It was near dusk that she finally accumulated every iota of courage inside her to go back. She stood up, her body felt so numb. She dragged her existence back to the elevator. Her feet hitting into something made her stumble and finally fall on the rough surface of the roof top. Her palms started bleeding; she didn't feel the pain perhaps the numbness did her good at least there. She saw her bleeding hands as if they did not belong to her. She had forgotten about bandaging her papercut today. More blood oozed out from it today. She remembered how tenderly he had wrapped his handkerchief around it that day. Was he the same beast?
Before she got up her eyes caught the object which was the cause of her fall. Those same silly flowers, pink under the diminishing hues of blue in the sky. In sheer frustration she threw them away.
So it wasn't really him? She thought. It was now clear that someone was behind everything that happened today. Who would know where she was until he had a clear idea about what was to happen to her today? She promised herself that she would find out. But before that it was important to deal with Shlok.

Chapter 12
Everything At Once
She had decided to give her job a break, not a fullstop though. She was going to resign; the other option was being fired, so not feasible in her case. She cleared her tears; washed her face, filled her eyes with kohl; so much that they brimmed with its inky black consistency. Looking at herself in the mirror she didn't pity herself; neither did she condemn her fate. There were only questions in her eyes; eternal questioning of inscrutable fate.
What does he think? One allegation against me and he will see me disintegrating before him? I'll prove you wrong. But first i have to prove myself right to myself!' A gritty Astha came out. All the eyes in the world followed her. Whisper; so many of them, they were all over the place.
"Never thought she could do such a thing?"
"Such a waste of talent..."
"I thought there were THINGS going on between her and Shlok sir..."
"Come on! You see the worth of such girls...Shlok sir can never fall for such...you know."
She stopped dead in her steps. This is only a ordeal Astha!' She repeated inside her mind and made for her desk to print out a copy of her defiance in the form of her resignation. She was free from his subordination.
Astha knocked and entered his cabin; the same monsters den she dreaded entering the first time she came here. Her eyes burnt with an amazing fire. He was engrossed in a map. She cleared her throat. He didn't look up but before he could say anything. She threw her resignation on his face! For a moment he was caught off guard, he looked up right into her eyes a hot up rush of revulsion and loathing occupied his eyes.
"How dare you?" He growled. Astha cocked her brow and smiled.
"I did! And i see you cant do anything about it. Tsk tsk tsk!"
"Just get lost before you see more trouble coming."
"Language!" She said through her teeth; forgetting she had just thrown her resignation on his face.
He kept quite but his anger boiled.
"Even the marrow inside your bones knows that i cant deceive you... but you chose to believe your eyes. Fine! But mark my words Mr. Shlok Agnihotri i'll make you payback for your words because Astha doesn't forgive."
She did not want to say those words to him; but she did anyway. She knew he would say all the rubbish in the world to her after that but to her surprise he didn't. She walked out with a melancholy monotone beat in her heart.
Her eyes; what was there in her eyes? He did not want to believe it. He had never seen so many emotions play in a person all at once; leaping fire, a queer, uncomfortable perplexity, brooding stillness of water, dilating pain everything but hatred. Even when her words were full of venom her eyes failed to follow her words. It left him flabbergasted. Staggered and shaken, words failed to escape his lips. He wanted to believe the innocence of her face, the glow of inspiration and resolve of her existence, the twinkle in her eyes. He felt like stopping her for once. To ask her you didn't do it right?' But before he could utter a word she was gone.

Astha gazed at the lone morning star which burned in the horizon. The wine-blue sky, bubbling with stars was fleeing away as the first early rays of sunlight erased the glory and blaze of a million worlds. Kalindi entered her room. She saw the glass of milk she left last night still untouched.
"Astha? You are awake already?" It wasn't a surprise for her, Astha had developed the habit of waking up early since her graduation years. She nodded. Kalindi came and sat on her bed.
"Your Ajju called yesterday."
"What did she say?"
"Sneha's marriage has been finalized."
"Thats a good news... when?"
"The next month... and she wanted you to come help her and the girls." Kalindi said moving towards Astha. Being her mother she saw the hints of distress in her eyes.
"You didn't sleep?"
"Had work to do?" She lied. Kalindi, although not convinced, nodded. She was about to leave when Astha said.
"I'll leave tomorrow." She announced.
"For?" A surprised Kalindi asked.
"Sneha's..." Her mother sighed in relief, smiled and left. There was too much on her mind and she wanted a distraction for herself before jumping into her quest of finding out who in the name of humanity was after her peace of mind. She opened the password protected compartment of her wardrobe and took out a folder. She took out a picture and rubbed her fingers against its surface. A lone tear escaped her eyes.
"Remember Astha its yours and only yours so dnt ever let them snatch it away from you, never..."
She looked up in desperation. Her own voice reverberated in the room.
"I miss you epak."

"Find out how did she have an access to the tender management department?" Shlok asked the other guy on the phone.
"She didn't..." He said.
"Impossible... She was handling my call's and invitations to projects in Akira's absence."
"She was but these tenders were signed even before her arrival in this company. According to what i can see Astha didn't even know about these tenders."
"What does that mean?"
"I cant be sure. But according to the record someone intentionally messed with the dates. And last time anyone had access to the data stored, soft or hard, was two days back. Astha ma'am was with you that day, even if she is blamed for it, she didn't do it directly. Besides we don't have a proof against her, you say so because you saw links of her with the Monarch's..."
"Find out more... there has to be something."
He cancelled the call, now that his aggressive self was gone, alien doubts started pouring inside his mind. I cant be wrong?' He didn't know whether he was authenticating himself or questioning himself; but it came out more as a question rather a doubt.

Her Ajju was wedded in a rich family. She had two daughters Sneha and Shruti, both were more or less Astha's age fellows. Sneha being the elder one had more frankness with Astha, but Shruti was no less. She was picked up from Mumbai airport and as expected was warmly welcomed by the family. Astha gazed at the familiar and endearing place; she had spent her childhood summers in. Sneha came running in to her; donned in the marvellous beauty of her womanhood; Astha couldn't recognise her at first.
"Hello girl-architect!" She chimed. Astha laughed because Sneha was one too. They both had inherited this craze for the field because of Sneha's father, who passed away when they were thirteen. Astha was equally close to him, he was her friend. She called him epak, because that was the first word she said as a toddler and he wanted her to call him so. His real name was Deepak.
"You hideous creature!" Someone turned her around and hugged her even before she could catch a glimpse. It had to be Shruti, Astha guessed and she was right. Everyone so did Astha laughed this was her way of greeting Astha since forever now. Shruti could put down any anorexic model off from the ramp; seeing her women's beauty would no longer be judged by her hit on obliterating flesh, she did it with great agreement and flawlessness.

For days and days Astha was busy shopping with the girls. Within a week there wasn't a sensible mall she hadn't called upon. Even after filling the boots twice a day things were still hanging like daggers on the list; nothing sufficed. On the brighter side it kept Astha from assessing anything about her resignation and events which lead to it.That day Astha had insisted them to get the shoes first, everything else took them hours and she was pretty tired and exhausted.
"I like this one." Sneha said wearing a 70's style lace up bombshell high heels.
"It looks gay!" Shruti said wrinkling her nose.
"Whats a gay shoe?" Astha asked.
"The one that only reveals your ankle very garishly." She said putting her well defined logic in it. Astha and Sneha burst out laughing. Astha heard a slight quiver of a glass amidst their chuckles. She looked around for the source and soon found a glass view mirror detached from the top. A woman was keenly examining her shoes right in front of it. Within seconds the mirror landed on the floor inches away from them just a flash after she pulled her away. The women gasped for air and gaped at Astha in astonishment.
"Oh God!... Thank you so much!" Her husband thanked her.
"It's okay." She replied making the shaken woman sit. His husband was now busy telling off the sales manager and the rest of the staff.
"It's okay... your safe now." Sneha tried calming her down. The woman disclaimed weariness and looked at Astha gratefully.
"Thank you... if you hadn't done it in time... i mean."
"Its okay.. im pleased you are fine."
"Again.. thank you so much...aa..."
"Astha."
"Jyoti." And she extended her hand for a shake.

Sneha was now running her father's company. She had insisted Astha to carry on her job after her internship with her but she persisted that her parents were alone in Pune and she wanted to stay with them for the best. Sneha didn't insist after that, but she kept the offer available for her. It was another of her business meetings where she dragged Astha along.
"Sneha please... i am not interested in you business parties. Besides dint i tell you i'm on a break. Spare me the boredom."
"Whatever... go get dressed! This is Mumbai these parties are happening unlike your dumb solo guitarings in Pune."
"Excuse me!"
"Excused... i'll be waiting downstairs." She fled, leaving a helpless Astha behind. Bloody business parties, she groaned. Little did Astha know what lied there in that another very ordinary business gathering.
It was indeed, a very happening and incidental social gathering, just as Sneha had suggested but it reminded Astha all the more of her first ever business party back in Pune. It took her back to Shlok and then eventually to her last encounter with him; which left some part of her shattered. Happens; when your blooming love fails; it happens.
So within an hour Astha tried to skip Sneha's eyes; who was by now gathered around by her business interactions; to excuse herself and leave. When after several attempts, she finally succeeded, she was stopped by someone. She cursed him a million times before plastering her fake smile back on her face.
"Hi! Miss Astha?" He raised his brow with a faint tremor of amusement on his lips. He was another very cold, frosty, and impassioned but exceptionally good looking gentleman from the business world. Astha's fake smile suddenly turned into a very momentous genuine one.
"Of course... Mr. Sidharth. Wasnt expecting you here." She had clearly surprised him for once.
"Dint expect you'd know me." He forwarded his hand for her.
"Sneha... she keeps saying things... about ya... is really impressed." She lied, but providentially he believed it, much to her contentment.
"yeah she just mentioned you to me... i was impressed... i mean for a newbie to get a job as a Dy. Chief ... that too in... which company is that?"
"Nevahmind... i resigned just a few days back."
"Oh she didn't mention that..." He smiled apologetically.
"That's because i dint tell her till now..."
"I'm sure you have your personal reasons behind...I would have considered myself lucky for having such youth impersonating true talent in my company..."
She smiled in response; showing how unlucky she considered herself for losing that opportunity, more to herself than him; failing badly. They had a little chit chat over the current affairs in the civil construction world. Astha forgot all about leaving, it was something to do with his captivating personality which kept her under its spell. It was the call from Shlok which distracted her completely for a moment. First she thought she was hallucinating but the name was death clear on the screen.
"An important call?" Siddharth asked seeing her all lost on the screen.
"Yeah... i must leave... had another appointment...just forgot..."
"Well in that case, before you bid a farewell... can i make an offer here..." He smiled meaningfully.
"What offer?"
"If you consider rerouting your career... you have a place waiting for you."
"Is that a consent?"
"I guess."
She smiled and waved her hands in the air.
"You don't expect me to do so without an official agreement..." Both laughed. Astha left after that, something made her look back at him and smile a furtive, exultant but critical smile.

Shlok parked his car outside her house and took out his cell phone to dial her number only. One ring, two, three and so many but she didn't pick the call. He sighed knowing exactly what happened and what was to happen. He did not expect her to pick his call, not even three weeks after whatever he had done to her. But somewhere something wanted to receive a call back. He was being impossible and he knew it.
Shlok came out of his SUV and inclined himself to the cars bonnet. Suddenly the surrounding filled up with rain but it failed to soak him even when his entire existence was soaked in its essence. There a few yards away from him, he saw her clasping drops of rain in her fists. Gambling through the opaque curtains, oblivious to him, oblivious to his eyes, oblivious to everything around. Some voices crammed his mind...
