Bhansali remembers Ranveer again
Rudra paced in his room bursting with rage. Laila was getting on his nerve. "I have to do something of her and fast", he thought.
------------------
Maithili and Paro were folding the clothes when Sunheri came to them looking sad. Worried, Maithili asked, "Sunheri, what happened? You don't look good."
"I... I just listened to a very sad story."
"Sad story? Who told you a sad story?", Maithili asked curious.
"Laila Baisa. She told me a story when I went to give her medicine that you asked me to."
"What is this story that made my sweet sister-in-law so sad?
"Shall I tell you?", Sunheri asked excited.
Maithili nodded and Paro just gave a straight smile.
"I will begin from first, ok. Once there was a girl who happily lived with her mother and father. One day her father and mother died in an accident, leaving her all alone. Poor girl was so scared. No one helped her. She slowly started dancing in functions and such to earn money. One day she met a Man and fell in love with him. There became close to each other. Very close. She loved him for 8 year and was sure that he loved her too. But suddenly one day the man got married to another woman and didn't even tell this girl. She was left all alone again. Isn't it a sad story?"
By the time Sunheri completed her story Paro eyes were flooding with uncontrollable tears. She understood whose story it was. "Laila was an orphan like her. Alone in this world. She is the girl who married the guy in the story, which is Rudra. Does that mean, she is coming between their relationship? Did Rudra really love...", she just couldn't get herself to complete the sentence. The overwhelming feelings and thoughts were suffocating her. Her heart raced and raced, beating very fast till suddenly she felt shortness of breath. Gasping for air she collapsed, losing consciousness."
As two people near Paro surrounded her in horror, trying to figure out what happened to her. Another two were peeping through another room, watching as the whole scene unfolded.
Laila looked at Mohini with a victorious smirk. "See, I told you it will work. Paro will now think I am just like her. An orphan. And on top of it she will now think Rudra loves me."
Mohini gave her a satisfactory smile.
-----------
Paro woke up in her room with Sunheri, Maithili and Rudra hovering over her. As she carefully sat up, Rudra instantly came next to her all concerned and asked, "Are you ok?"
Paro looked at him and gave an uneasy nod. His eyes reflected his concern for her. Pain was etched all over his face. Worried for him, Paro immediately ensured, "I am perfectly fine. Was just little tired that's it."
Maithili sat next to her and said, "You scared us, Paro. This was meant to happen. Even after me constantly saying no, you sent me out with Sunheri and did all the housework on your own. On top of it you cleaned the whole kitchen, cooked too much food..."
"Did embroidery on my dupatta too.", Sunheri pitched in.
"You did that too?", Maithili asked shocked.
"Paro, your eyes are still not better. Why did you do so much work alone and that too in half day?", Maithili was little annoyed.
"It is all because of that Laila Baisa story. Sorry, Babisa. I made you cry.", Sunheri apologized.
Rudra just stood still taking in everything the ladies were saying. Maithili told him that Paro was crying uncontrollably before falling unconscious but now when Laila's name was mentioned, he knew something was not right. Not wanting to ask questions in front of Paro, Rudra calmly said, "I think we should let her rest for sometime. Let us go out."
"I will stay with her. I will not disturb her.", Maithili softly assured him. She knew something was wrong with Paro and she was not planning on leaving until she knew what it was.
Rudra nodded and left asking Maithili to take care of Paro.
Once Rudra and Sunheri were out, Maithili questioned, "Paro, tell me the truth. What is happening? The way you cried outside, I am sure it was more that just for the story. Tell me what is bothering you? You can trust your sister, right?"
Paro looked at Maithili for a second before all her resistance came crashing down and she started sobbing as she hugged Maithili saying, "I am so confused, jija. I don't know what to do."
Maithili patted Paro's head and encouraged her to go on. Paro slowly wiped her tears, cleared her throat and putting a temporary end to her tears explained everything Rudra had told her previous night. Maithili looked at her in disbelief but didn't interrupt her. Once Paro was done, she said, "What are you waiting for? We need to send laila out of this house soon?"
"But who am I to do it, jija? Rudra doesn't even consider me his wife. I don't know who I am anymore? Am I where I am supposed to be? Is he ever going to love me? If not atleast consider me his wife or part of his life? All these questions are making me crazy."
"You said devarjisa told you that he doesn't love her. That he never loved her. So don't worry Paro."
"But in the story, she said the man loved her back. What will I do without Major Saab, Jija?", Paro desperately questioned.
"Paro, No. Don't think like that. You must not listen to anyone's words except Devarjisa's. You believe his words, right? Or do you think he is lying? Who do you trust more your Major Saab or Laila."
"I believe him more than myself, Jija. He could never lie. I trust him with my life.", came her immediate answer.
"There. You have your answer. Paro, I am telling you since yesterday. There is something off about that Laila. I don't believe her."
"But Jija, she is just like me. An orphan. And why would she want to lie to me?"
"Paro, I don't know all that. Maybe that story is just that, a story with no reality to it like you are thinking. Stop thinking about her and think about yourself and Devarji sa. You must have been really hurt by the truth.", she asked with concern.
"I was when he first told me, jija. Not any more. I came to terms with it. Atleast I think I did. It all happened in his past, before I came into his life. There is no reason to feel angry or sad about it."
"You are strong, Paro. I am sure you will get through this."
---------------------
Rudra looked at Paro as she silently served food in his plate without even once looking at him. She looked very pale. The more she avoided meeting his eye, the more anxious he got and his impatience grew. He had to do something and fast. After stepping out of their room earlier, he called Sunheri and asked her about this story which supposedly made Paro cry. When Sunheri told him everything, he knew exactly what to do. Laila had to go at any cost. He can't let her manipulate or hurt Paro any further. But before he did that, he had to talk to Paro and soon.
------------
That night Paro and Maithili were clearing everything in kitchen while Sunheri was busy talking about her sapno ka Rajkumar' (Dream Boy). Suddenly she looked at Maithili and asked, "Bhabi sa, you didn't know Samrat baisa a lot before your wedding then how did you know he is the one for you?"
"Sunheri, when the right man comes in to your life you will somehow know that he is the one destined for you.", Maithili explained lovingly.
...
...
The conversation continued and Paro just listened half lost in her thoughts. Sunheri's question was what brought her completely back to the reality. "Your turn, Bhabi. Now tell me, what is Rudra Bhai sa's favourite color?"
"Huh, that...", Paro was still trying to grasp the question when She heard, "Black" from behind her.
All three ladies turned to find Laila slowly making her way into the kitchen. Maithili asked her if she needed anything. Laila, "I wanted water. My leg was feeling a little better, so I thought I will get water myself without troubling anyone."
Unknown to the sudden tension built in the kitchen, Sunheri enthusiastically asked, "Black? You know Rudra Bhai sa's favourite color? How?"
"He loves black. I know everything about Rudra. Our relationship is deep ... I ... I mean, we have 8 long years of friendship, so we obviously know everything' about each other.", she said as she stressed on the word everything.
Paro started fidgeting her hands, feeling uncomfortable. She wanted to stay calm but today she had no control over her own thoughts and feelings. She was an emotional mess. She so much wanted to run away from kitchen at that point but her feet were not ready to move.
"Bas.", came a loud roar and everyone turned to Rudra who now stood at the entrance of the kitchen.
He gave one deadly look to Laila making her take a step back feeling intimidated. If looks alone could kill, Laila would have been definitely dead by now. He then looked at Paro and calmly said, "Let's go."
She obediently walked out the kitchen behind him. It was not like he ordered her or forced her. She wanted to go to him. Another second in that kitchen would have suffocated Paro with all the pent up feelings resurfacing. She desperately wanted to run from there and he was there to take her away. Just like always even today he saved her before she even asked him to. An unknown satisfaction filled her heart. He was her safe haven.
As they entered their bedroom Rudra closed the doors, walked up to Paro and straight away asked, "What are you doing?"
"What?", she said, totally confused.
"What, What? Did you look at yourself in the mirror? You look lifeless. No sign of smile on your face. And this evening you even fell unconscious. Why did you over work yourself? Can't you take care of yourself? And now in the kitchen... Why are you hurting yourself?", he was shooting one question after another frustrated.
Paro looked at him before she brought herself to say, "Why? Why do you care?"
"What do you mean, why? The smile missing on your face bothers me. I don't know why but I can't stand the thought that you are in pain.", he said annoyed.
Paro just stared at him dumbstruck. She for the first time in the whole day felt happy. Very happy after what Rudra just said. She was happy knowing that he does care for her. Se might have know it deep down in her heart but hearing it from him made it much believable.
Rudra paused for Paro to say something but when she didn't, he continued, "I told you the whole truth myself, didn't I? Then why are you bothered..."
"I am not bothered by your past. I am bothered because I don't know who I am to you. And if at all I have any place in your life? Can you tell me one last time...Did you ever love Laila?", she stammered. She didn't want to ask him that but she couldn't stop herself. What she heard in the story was still ringing in her ears. It was not that she didn't trust his words or that she doubted him. Hell No. She just wanted to hear from him again to calm down her racing heart which keeps beating erratically when she remembers the story.
"Hell No. How many times should I have to tell you that? You know very well than anyone that I don't have a heart Paro. That I am not capable of loving anyone. Don't you trust me?", he replied dejected.
"No. No. It is not that. I just wanted to hear you say it one more time. I am sorry.", she said, regretting her question. She understands that Laila was his past but she wanted to know if Paro is a part of his present and future or not. A silent lonely tear escaped her eye.
Rudra gently placed his hand on her cheek and with his thumb softly wiped out the tear that was making its way through her cheeks. "Don't say sorry. I ... I don't know what we have between us. And I don't know if we share anything at all or not. But one thing I can surely tell you is there was never love between me and Laila. Paro, don't let Laila come between us. Don't hurt yourself.", he explained smoothly as if pleading her with that last sentence.
Paro silently looked at him and then his hand which was placed on her cheeks. He looked at his hand and slowly moved it away from her. She for the first time, didn't want him to take off his hand. His touch felt soothing to her soul. She badly wanted to tell him, tell him about all the questions that kept popping up in her mind throughout the day. And that, she was scared of losing him. That she can't live without him. That if he ever leaves her, she will have no where to go. That he is her everything. That he is her life. That she desperately wants to hear his answer to her question, "Who is she to him?"
Rudra walked towards their bed and sat on it. Looking out the window, he assured, "I will make sure Laila leaves as soon as possible."
"No. No need. She is not well. She needs to take rest. I told you, I am not bothered by your past. You don't have to send her away because of me. I am fine with her stay.", Paro politely answered. She didn't want to be inhuman to Laila due to her fears and insecurities. She is fine. She will be. She always managed to be.
Rudra broke her thoughts as he said, "I am not sending her away because of you. I want to send her away, for us. I am not fine with her stay. And I tell you again, I don't love her. I never did." He wanted to make sure there was not even a tiny bit of doubt in her mind regarding him and Laila. He knew that the story Laila pulled was the main reason behind Paros question and he was ready to repeat those words again and again if that would bring back Paro's smile.
Paro slowly got her bedding out, placed it on the ground and laid down. Even though she still had questions that needed answers, she felt a little calmer. Not because Rudra was sending Laila away but because she now know that he genuinely cares for her. That he wants her to be happy. She finally closed her eyes which were forcefully kept open for so long and instantly fell asleep as her fatigue kicked in.
Rudra waited for Paro to say something but when even after few minutes she didn't say anything, he softly called out, "Paro."
When there was no response, the looked at her worried but soon realized that she was just sound asleep and smiled at her sleeping figure.
------------------
Next morning when Paro woke up Rudra was no where to be seen. She got ready and went into kitchen. She felt much better than yesterday but her question was still bugging her. "what if he doesn't even consider you his wife", the voice in her head asked her. She brushed away that thought saying, "Not now."
--------------
Laila joined everyone for breakfast and tried many ways to get close to Rudra but when Rudra didn't give her any chance she turned her focus to Paro. Paro was about to put few roti's in Rudra's plate when Laila suddenly interfered saying, "What are you doing, Paro? Rudra doesn't eat heavy breakfast. 3 roti's is a lot."
Paro froze in her position, still holding the roti's in her hand almost above Rudra's plate. She didn't know what to say or do. Rudra who was burning with rage, looked menacingly at Laila and pretending to be polite, said, "Laila, you need not worry. My wife knows how to take care of me. And I don't mind having heavy breakfast when it is made by my wife. Laila..., you think you know me but you don't."
Raising his plate a little he looked at Paro who silently placed the roti's in his plate. A tiny smile made its way to her lips. Her husband had just acknowledged her as his wife.
Just then Aman walked in and Rudra spoke, "Good Morning, Aman. This is the lady I told you about. She sprained her leg yesterday. She is walking fine but just to be sure, show her to a doctor before moving her to a safe house."
Laila just stared at Rudra shocked. She was not ready to go. She had so much to do. She hurriedly spoke, "Rudra, I will be safe with only you. Please, don't send me. I don't trust anyone."
"Laila, Aman is one of the finest officers. I trust him with my life. He will take good care of you. Don't worry. You will be perfectly fine. Now have your breakfast. Paro, give Aman chai.", Rudra spoke way too nicely.
---------
After breakfast Mohini tried to manipulate Danveer to let Laila stay back but luckily he didn't agree. He simply left the room saying, "Wasn't it you who wanted me to stay away from this Laila's matter saying that it was Rudra's problem. What happened now? No, I won't say anything."
Mohini held her head with her hand and said, "Satyanash."
------------------
After Laila left, Rudra walked back to his room and got ready for office. He felt at peace. Now he can be sure that Paro will be fine in the haveli. Just then Dilsher entered the room to talk to Rudra about something. But before he could say anything his eyes fell on Rudra's right hand.
Excited he called, "Parvati... Parvati."
Shocked Rudra said, "What happened? Why are you shouting?"
Dilsher panicked, "You don't move. Just stand there. Stay still."
Confused, Rudra stood rooted to his position and totally worried asked, "What happened?"
Just then Paro entered the room half running and asked, "What happened, Bapusa?"
"Parvati, look at Rudra's right hand. He is holding the chair.", he said all excited.
Along with Paro even Rudra turned to see his right hand which was tightly gripping the headboard of the chair. Paro smiled in glee and Rudra forgot everything he wanted to say as he saw her smiling face. It felt like ages since he saw her smiling so full of life.
Paro curious, "Are you able to move your hand?"
Rudra tried moving his hand but it was not budging. "No.", he said disappointed.
"Don't be disappointed. This is a good sign. I am sure it will soon get better.", she assured him.
"I am leaving.", he declared before he walked out of the room. He was always very bad at sharing his weaknesses or disappointments with others.
Once Paro realized she was alone in the room, she crashed down thinking, "Hai Bolenath, what am I doing? I was scared of losing him, of him leaving me, of him not making me a part of his life. When the truth is that I am going to leave him once he is all well. I am going to leave him forever. All the questions I have had since yesterday are meaningless, aren't they? There is no use knowing what I mean to him, isn't it? I was so lost in finding my place in his life that I forgot my promise. I am sorry. Forgive me. I don't want any answers from him anymore. He just acknowledged me as his wife and I am happy with that. I know that he cares for me and that is more than enough. I don't want to know anything else. I just want to be with him. I just want to make my every moment with him memorable. I just want to make him happy while I can. I am happy he is getting better. Thank You." Wiping her tears, she said to herself, "I am not going to cry. The pain I felt yesterday is nothing compared to what is in store for me. My actual suffering is yet to start. I will not cry as I will have lot of time for that later. For now I will just smile like he wants me too and will try my best to make him smile. After all it is with these memories that I have to live my whole life."
-------------------------------
That evening Paro eagerly waited for Rudra to come home. Once home Rudra found everything he needed and wanted ready for him before he even got it on his lips. She cooked his favorite food and took extra care while serving it. Rudra felt content as he saw her smiling all the time. He did feel something different about Paro but failed to place his finger on it. For time being he decided to not think much about it and to enjoy Paro's attention. It was a real treat for him to watch her as she smiled everytime he looked at her.
That night Paro silently slept on her side of the bed, shocking Rudra. But he didn't ask her any questions about it. Oblivious to the new storm that is brewing in the horizon, Rudra was simply happy to see Paro back to her usual self.
