Annie was happy, "wooww..thats so good Geet... if you want I can help you with this... you know am very good at academics.. maan bro calls me an encyclopedia you know..not that he is less but..."

"annie... stop!!! Kitna bolti hain aap...pehle jaiye..fresh ho jaiye..then sit with Geet and talk to your heart's fill..." dadima rolled her eyes! She had got one master piece as her grand daughter.

[annie...stop!! how much do you speak... first go and freshen up.. then sit with Geet and talk to your heart's fill..]

Geet smiled seeing annie made faces as she walked out. One thing she concluded, annie was not bad at heart. she was a very warm person. She said all what she heard from maan and she wasn't wrong either. She sighed and went to the kitchen on dadima's wish to eat typical Punjabi breakfast.

Its been few days and she was really enjoying annie's company! Annie was genuine and very sweet natured and above all that, she was never judgmental. The servants never bothered her.. they had little idea about who Geet was. They had seen her grihapravesh but maan wasn't there with her so it was all the more confusing. Dadima managed to get her certificates from hoshiyarpur saying she needed them to apply for visa and all and she still tried contact maan. Geet felt bad initially..more like a burden but then the advent of annie just seemed to bring a positive impact on her life.

That evening she sat with annie, looking into some application forms she managed to get for Geet. she was really touched with her gesture. Annie helped her fill the details when she saw her a little lost.

"Geet...ek baat puuchon?"

[can I ask something?]

"yes... poocho.."

"are you married? I mean...ye sindur and stuff... so...and where is your husband?"

Geet sat stunned for a while..what will she answer? That she was the girl who was gotten married to her brother beyond his will? What right does she have on this house or anything for that matter?

Just then dadima entered smiling, "whats with you guys?"

"dadima.. Geet tho shadi shuda hain na.. tho where is her husband?"

[Geet is married na... tho where is her husband?]

Dadima looked at Geet who seemed so low..probably didn't know how to answer it. for once she hated her decision of getting them married. Its Geet who is suffering. At that point she decided she wouldn't let her waste her life this easily. If Geet wishes, she will get a divorce or something. bracing herself up, she answered annie, shocking Geet beyond limits.

"yes beta...geet is married. And her husband refused to take her in..."

Geet gasped hearing dadima...it was like salting her wound. And so was annie.

"but why??"

"because beta..geet hails from hoshiyarpur..wahan ladkiyon ko zyada padhai likhai nahi karne dete... jab Geet ke pati ko ye pata chala ke unhone graduation nahi ki hain tho he left..."

[because beta..geet hails from hoshiyarour and there girls are not encouraged for education. When Geet's husband knew she wasn't a graduate, he left..]

Annie really felt bad for Geet. she was a nerd..bookworm and education is something she highly supported. She was furious hearing this..over those few days, she had really taken a liking for Geet. she was sweet and very nice at heart.

"how could he dadima... how could he? Just because she isn't a graduate..he won't accept? What a jerk he is!!! This is why our country is so far behind...see thy heart and not status..I mean who the hell is he to judge her without even knowing?."

She turned to Geet who was a mute spectator to all this and hugged her, "am sorry Geet... I shouldn't have asked you all that."

Geet felt nice...really nice...like a friend who she could rely on...a friend she had been searching for all these days. Annie broke the hug and adjusted her specs properly and looked at her certain determination, "alright... he walked out on you... its time to show him what you are baby..."

"annie... kya bol raho ho?", Geet couldn't stop smiling seeing her reaction.

[annie what are you talking about?]

"revenge time darling... he thinks you are weak..wait till he sees what you can do..."

Geet knew annie was crazy...but this crazy... she felt scared wondering what maan's reaction could be!! She looked at dadima for help and dadima just smiled, winking at her.

A sudden boring painful life seems brighter with annie's arrival. She was just the sweetest person she had ever seen iin her life. her morning started with annie's bak bak...and ended with her stupid crazy joke. That night Geet went to dadima's room to check on her when dadima gestured her to sit beside her.

"Geet... don't waste your life beta... padhai kijiye... aur hum chahte hain ki aap aage badhein. Sirf maan ke nahi hone se zindagi nahi rukti... hum phir se maan se baat karenge..agar wo ab bhi apni zid par ade rahe tho hum aapko iss rishety se azad kar denge.. aapko bhi apni zindagi jeene ka haq hain.."

[Geet.. don't waste your life beta... study...go ahead.. lie doesn't end with maan. We will talk to him again and if he still remains stubborn then we will free you from this relation.. you have the right to live your own life...]

Geet looked down and held dadima's hand, tears welling up in her eyes, "thank you... aapne aur annie ne jo bhi kiya mere liye..."

[thank you...for all that you and annie have done for me...]

"aisa nahi hai Geet... you are our daughter.. maan is unfortunate ke wo aapko paakar bhi kho rahe hain.."

[its not like that Geet..you are our daughter. maan is unfortunate to lose you even after getting you.]

"now stop crying... and college jaane ki taiyyari karein warna annie hume pagal kar dengi..."

[now stop crying and prepare for college or else annie will make us crazy...]

Geet smiled and left, thanking annie and dadima in her heart. the next day annie dragged her shopping to get clothes for her new college. Geet just stood and annie selected clothes for her like crazy. She asked Geet to try everything..from jeans to dresses to skirts and even mini skirts. Geet's eyes widened as she wore it inside the trial room...gosh it was so embarrassing. She had agreed to go with jeans and long skirts.. but this??!!

Annie knocked and barged in, "looking hawwttt baby...", and whistled.

"tumhe nahi lagta ye kuch zyada hi chota hain.?"

[don't you think its too short?]

Annie winked, "then you havne't seen college darling..."

They got back home with a huge rang of dreeses for Geet and both were death tired. They had stuffed pani puris and chat and aloo tikka on the way and just slept off the minute they hit the bed.

With annie being around, Geet seemed to forget the sad part of her life. she had gotten admission into a very good college with economics as her major and she was doing well. its been over a month and she enjoyed the change. The house didn't seem to remind her of maan anymore. She had awesome day in college and annie drove both of them to college in her bmw that maan had gifted her. she always returned home to the welcoming smiles of dadima and annie. Though Geet and annie were in different colleges, their timings were almost similar so it was easy to catch up. Dadima was too happy to see Geet changing and living her life. she had even stopped wearing her mangalsutra now. sindur was just a little bit ..too little for anyone to notice. She enjoyed her life now. she just stopped thinking about maan at all. Being with friends and then her college life seemed to teach her so many things. its better to stop thinking at times and go with the flow.

It was Saturday morning and Geet had college at 10am. just two hours for the day. she had washed her hair and was wiping them when annie came in, "Geet...lets go for a movie today.."

"kaunsi movie?"

[which movie?]

"umm..umm... let me check..." and thats when her eyes fell on a card that was lying on the bed.

"hey..whats that?", she grabbed the card and before even Geet could realize or stop her, she had already read the whole content and her eyes widened in surprise!

"Geet... ye koi proposal hain?? Tum college mein kaafi famous ho shayad..", annie teased.

[Geet.. is it a proposal? I think you are quite famous in college..]

Geet was super shocked, "ahh no annie.. usne bas pata nahi kaise mere bag meindaal diya tha.. mujhe abhi pata chala..."

[no annie... I don't know how he kept it in my bag.. I just got to know now..]

"umm not bad miss Geet... you are improving... lets show it to dadima.." annie winked and made a run towards dadima's room, "so this is what you do in college han?"

"nooo...annieee rukooo..." Geet ran, getting scared what dadima would think of her!

Annie ran ahead and she ran after her, throwing away the towel that was wrapped around her hair on the bed. They ran around the hall giggling and screaming and the servants smiled seeing the house full of life. annie was running towards the door when Geet caught up and snatched the card from her, smiling evilly and THUD!!!!

She hit something hard and fell right on the floor, hitting her bottom, "ouchhh..."

Maan had just walked in when he collided with someone. As far as he knew things always had to be perfect and someone going disarray, "can't you watch where you walk?", he barked.

He looked at a random girl sitting on the ground, holding something. her hairs were scattered all over her face and he just couldn't see it. it irritated him. ek tho he was busy..he had flown down to india for some work and this random girl bumps into him and doesn't even have the courtesy to say sorry or move aside.

He waited for her to get up...for his ego wont allow him to lower down and help her. but Geet stiffened... she could never in her life forget that voice. Was he here? But how could that be? Was he here for her? she had even lost count of how many nights she had spent sleepless for this man. Does he even remember her? would he even recognise her?

"could you please move aside... I can't stand here the whole day..."

A certain rage rose within her... how could he? How could he be so ruthless? Is that the way to even talk to someone?

"hey...move...", and his words stuck in his throat as she flipped her hairs to her back, facing him. for once he felt he wasn't supposed to be here!!! A face so innocent and so pretty... that was the first impression he got, he had never seen in his life!! Their eyes met for a while and time seemed to stop until annie came and helped Geet stand up.
