The latest is that Smriti Irani has been asked to pull up her socks as her much-talked about show Virruddh has been registering really low TRPs. Although critics have given her show a green signal, it has failed to rouse the same excitement among couch potatoes.

A special meeting was held with Smriti's creative team last week. "They have been asked to keep a strict quality check and to better their standards of production. Even Sony knows that the show has very good potential. As every channel wants their shows to deliver good TRPs, Sony wants them to produce good results as early as possible. They have been given one month (exactly four weeks) to deliver better TRPs," says a highly placed source in Sony.

When contacted, Sandiip Sickand, chief creative director of Sony, refused to comment on the issue. "I have nothing to say on this," he said.

Sony has already axed their newly launched shows like Kulvaddhu and Jeete Hain Jiske Liye, despite the presence of big stars like Anuj Saxena and Renuka Shahane respectively. The reason cited was poor TRPs. Good content and an innovative storyline have not generated good TRPs for Smriti's show. If we take the ratings of TAM media research, the highest TRP that Virrudh managed to get in the month of April was 1.22. Pitched against hugely popular shows like Saat Phere, the show is yet to prove its worth with the audience. Even a newly launched show like Kasturi managed to get an average TRP of four.
