Part 19

Arvind Malik! The elder son of Subhadra Malik. He was a Son every mother can only wish for. Obedient, dutiful, devoted to his mother. Losing his father at an early age, he was always brought up to be an arch of family, a chief his mother wants him to be one day. From an early age he was taught by his mother the values, the repute, the principles, the dignity, the prestige of his family. And the dutiful Son he was, he mugged up, revised at every interval and followed it like a religious book.

And soon the difference between right and wrong burned in a thin air and like a residual ash, what he saw or mattered was his mother's words. He followed every word of his mother, its right or wrong, it doesn't mattered to him.

But all the lessons had laid forgotten when he had seen her for the first time. Madhu Bajpai! The fresher of that year, the year of his graduation. And everything around him had changed. He forget everything his mother had taught him and the most valuable lesson he dared to forget, that changed his course of life, was that, this was the forbidden territory. He had no control on his life. His life was controlled by his mother. Which school he will join, which college he will study in, whom he will friend with, and whom he will fall in love. And he had known this. He had known this all along. But still he dared to fall in love. And fallen so hard that he dared to assert this to his mother.

And that day he came to know one thing about him. He had always thought of him as a obedient son, a dutiful son who respects his mother and agrees to her every word because he loves her.

But that day he came to know that was not the case.

A coward.

That what he was! A coward who has no nerve to stand in front of his mother, no vigor to fight for himself. And he was forced to forget his love, for the sake of his family's reputation.

"Arvind, that girl has no stand in front of our family. How can you even think that I will allow you to marry a middle class girl, who is nothing in front of our family? This is my last decision, Arvind. I have seen a girl for you and you will marry her. And I know, as always, you will not deny me this time too"

And the downcast head of Arvind Malik had lifted only when he heard the fading sound of footstep, indicating the meeting is dismissed and the final verdict had been recited.

And Arvind Malik had done just that. He had married the girl his mother has selected for him. And tried to forget his love ...or so he thought.

"Arvind...please, child...please...save my daughter...save her...this is the third time she had tried to kill herself... Please Arvind...save her...please help me...she is my only child, I can't see her like this..."

Arvind malik stood there, looking at the helpless mother, crying for her child. What can he do to save her daughter? He is married now. How can he cheat his wife? That was the thoughts running through his rational mind but as soon as the matter shifted to his heart, the heart which had tried to forget his love but came out unsuccessful. And he came out with a solution, now his being married didn't mattered and cheating the girl his mother as selected for him didn't sound atrocious.

And thus, within a span of a month, he again found himself seating in front of the fire, going through all the rituals he had performed not a month ago. The only thing changed was the venue and his companion, with whom he was again reciting the vows. The venue from a grand hall was changed into a small temple and companion was changed from a stranger to the woman he loves.

And thus Arvind Malik gave in to Gayatri Bajpai's and his heart's plea and married Madhu Bajpai.

But a condition was laid. He can't ruin everything for which he had complied with his mother and married a stranger. He still was his mother's dutiful son, wasn't he? And so he told Gayatri Bajpai that her daughter will still remain a Bajpai, not a Raizada and asked her to keep this marriage a secret.

And Gayatri Bajpai, seeing his daughter's weak but happy posture had complied with everything Arvind Malik asked for.

And Arvind Malik started living his two faade life. And soon the little guilt he used to feel evaporated in a thin air. What wrong he was doing? He was a dutiful son, a loving husband to his wife and a lover to his love.

"Nanu." Agam called his Nanu as he entered her room. It was pass dinner time.

"Nanu, dinner" Agam stood near the door and saw a tear roll down from the corner of her eyes as she opened her eyes. He walked towards her.

"Nanu, what happened?" Agam knelt in front of her and kept his hand on her knee.

Gayatri Bajpai looked at her grandson. She is not only the culprit of all the wrongdoing in Raizada family but also her grandson. She kept her hand on his shoulder.

"I ...I am sorry, Agam.." Gayatri Bajpai said softly.

"Nanu.." Agam started to protest but was stopped by the sudden hug.

"No Agam. You need to understand this...I...I am one of the culprit for the broken life you are living...If I would have somehow made my daughter understand...if I would have not given in her madness than you would have got a normal life, a normal family, a mother who would have loved you, a father who would have given you his name proudly...I am sorry, son...I ...I am one of the reason ... I am sorry..." Gayatri Bajpai whispered brokenly.

Agam clenched his jaw, the hold on his Nanu tightening.

"You mean to say it's all your fault? The maliks were at no fault? The Raizadas were at no fault?"

His Nanu broke the hug and looked at him

"Yes, I am at fault. Arvind and Subhadra Malik are at fault. But the Raizadas are at no fault, do you understand me, Agam?"

"No! I don't understand! Tell me one thing Nanu, am I at fault?" Agam looked at his Nanu.

His Nanu looked at him.

"No. Agam, you are not at fault." How is he at fault? Her son has done nothing

"Then why had I suffered, Nanu? Why Arvind Malik gave his name to Anjali and Arnav but not me? I was also his child. He had married my mother, hadn't he, Nanu? He married my mother too. Then why he always forced Ma and you to never tell that to anyone. Why he told me to never tell my father's name to anyone? Why I was always referred as a bas***d? Why me and not Anjali and Arnav. Why Nanu?" Agam looked at his Nanu's seating posture, demanding answers for his every misery.

"Because your father was a coward man and your mother was a broken and a weak woman. And children pay for their parent's sins" Gayatri Bajpai had nothing to say more than that. Whatever happened in the past was not in her hand. Then she was a helpless mother and now she is a helpless grandmother. Then also she was a helpless spectator to whatever wrong was happening in front of her and if today her grandson wants her to act like one, than she has no choice but to be one.

"All I want to say is, don't be like your parents. You will achieve nothing. Nothing! But if you forget everything and accept your past, than you can get someone to call your own, other than me. You can get an elder sister and a younger brother. "

Gayatri Bajpai got up from her chair and started towards the door, leaving Agam with his own thoughts.

...

"Mom!! We won!!" Aarav ran inside the Mansion and hugged his Mom.

Khushi steadied her by holding the chair and looked down at her Son, smiling.

"I knew t..."

"Aarav! How many times I have told you not to startled her or jump on her like this!! You can hurt Khushi and the baby!" came Arnav s voice from behind, several notch higher than intended.

Khushi looked at Arnav ji, not liking his tone. But she can't scold him in front of Aarav. She again looked down at Aarav, who had dropped his hand from around her waist.

"Are you hurt,Mom? Is the baby hurt?" Aarav asked caressing his Mom's stomach.

"No, sweetheart. You have not hurt me or the baby. You know your Dad, he worries too much. You go and change your dress, lunch is ready" Khushi ushered him to go up.

Aarav nodded his head. The new restrictions aren't going down his throat well.

"Arnav ji! Is this a way to talk to your Son?" Khushi chided softly, as soon Aarav was off her sight.

"I have asked him several times, Khushi. I had told him not to startled you or hug you suddenly, you can loose your balance." Arnav slumped on the sofa. It was Sunday but the small basketball match he had with Aarav after his school's match has tiered him.

"But you can ask him in more polite way. There was no need to raise your voice."

Arnav looked at Khushi. Why is she making a big fuzz out of a small molehill?

"Khushi, I was not shouting. I was just telling him."

"Ha. Everyone is not Khushi Kumari Gupta Singh Raizada to know when you are shouting and when you are just telling. So you should maintain your volume." Khushi turned around and again started placing the plate on the dining table "Just telling. Even Laxmi ji in poolside would have heard his voice and he is telling he was just telling" Khushi muttered under her breathe.

"What did you say?" Arnav titled his head unable to hear what his wife had just said.

"Nothing! Go freshen up!! Lunch is ready!!!" her voice rising with every word.

"Why are you shouting Khushi?!" Arnav got up from the sofa.

"I was not shouting. I was just telling. Aap ko samajhna chahiye na, hum kab chilla rahe hai aur kab sirf bol rahe hain.." Khushi flashed one of the sweet smile of hers.

Arnav shook his head at his weird wife and moved towards the stairs.

...

"Oh...so everyone is here for lunch. Thank God, Chhote is not busy in one of his video conference. That will spare us a lunch together" Anjali cooed happily and sat on her chair.

"For your kind information, Di. I have a conference but that is an hour later." Arnav replied, stuffing his mouth.

"Whatever it is. The thing is we are having a lunch together" Anjali smiled

"Laad Governor ka kuch bharosa nahi hai, Di. He will get up in the middle of the lunch, take my sautan and start romancing" Khushi whispered to her sister-in-law but this time Arnav was lucky enough to hear his wife's mutterings.

Anjali and Khushi giggled earning a stern glare from their Chhote and Arnav ji respectively.

"Sorry.." Khushi apologized cheekily holding her one ear.

Without replying Arnav lowered his eyes and resumed eating.

...

"Mom! Where is my matching T-shirt! I am unable to find it." Aarav bolted inside his parent's room, with a pajama in his hand. The Dinner was over and everyone was in their respective room, calling it a day. And Aarav too was getting ready for bed but he was unable to find his nightdress.

"Mom, I am unable to find the matching T-shirt for this pajama" Aarav flashed the pajama in front of his mother.

Khushi opened his mouth to say something but as earlier, was forced to stop.

"You can wear any T, Aarav. There was no need to disturb your Mom for this silly thing" Arnav told, entering from the poolside, a file in his hand.

"But Dad..."

"It's ok, Arnav ji. I will find his T-shirt and be back soon" Khushi smiled as she got up from the bed

Aarav moved towards his Mom, holding her hand, he started towards the door. But as Khushi neared the door, her right foot stuck inside the mat, making her loose her balance.

"Khushi, watch it!!" Arnav's file dropped from his hand as he lapped towards Khushi and caught her in time.

Khushi closed her eyes, breathing heavy, two warm arms securely wrapped around her waist.

"Mom! Are you ok?!"

Khushi opened her eyes as she heard her son, to collide with two angry orbs.

Arnav steadied her on her two feet.

"How many times to tell you, Aarav?! How many times should I tell you?! I had told you to be careful with her, still you pay no heed!! Was the missing T-shirt more important than your Mom!!" Arnav shouted in his anger.

"Dad...I...I ...didn't meant too..." Aarav stammered, his eyes filling instantly.

"Arnav ji, why are you shouting at Aarav. It wasn't his fault. My foot got stuck in..."

"Khushi! I don't want any explanation. I don't know if you care about yourself and my baby or not BUT I do!! So..." Arnav stopped instantly, seeing the tear on her cheek.

Khushi wiped her tears and looked down at Aarav.

"Baby, you go and sleep. Tomorrow, before you wake up, your T-shirt will be in front of you." Bending, Khushi kissed his forehead.

Aarav lifted his misted eyes to look at her Mom. His heart wanting to bury the nightmares that has started hitting him like a tidal wave but his mind betraying him everytime, as if forcing him to believe it. Believe it that it's not a nightmare instead it's the reality of his life.

Aarav tightened his hold on the cloth held in his hand and flunked it in the empty space.

"I don't want any T-shirt!!No need to find that T-shirt!!! I Don't want anything!! And if you don't need me anymore then throw me out!!" Aarav shoved his words towards his father and ran out of the room.

Khushi gasped at his last sentence.Throw him out? How can he even think of something like that? She took a step forward, ready to follow Aarav only to be stopped by her husband. Clenching her teeth, she turned to face him.

"What is this, Arnav ji?! You think I am careless! I don't care about YOUR, baby? Is the baby only yours?! And why did you shout at Aarav?!" Khushi shouted. What does he think? Only he can shout?

"Khushi..." Arnav closed his eyes to compose himself.

And this gesture of him agitated her more.

She shoved his hold from her and pushed him, till his back was plastered to the wall. Poking her finger on his chest, she started.

"Leave ASR outside MY house. No need to bring him inside. Once you are inside MY house, I want you to be Nani and Di's Chhote, Aarav's Dad and my Arnav ji. Do you get me?" Khushi asked, her face close to him, all serious.

Arnav looked at Khushi, all amused. Leaning little forward, he pecked her lips.

"It's my house too, love" Arnav smiled.

"No! It's not your house! It's MY house. Have you ever heard me saying your office as OUR office? And don't kiss me" Khushi demanded but he just kept looking at her, still smiling.

"You Laad Governor, stop smiling and answer me.." Khushi again poked his chest with her finger.

"No" came the reply.

"Then get this straight in your head. The office is YOUR and this house is MY." Khushi glared at him and turned around.

"Khushi stop.." Arnav again stopped her.

"Now what?" khushi let out exasperated.

"Aarav will not listen to anyone. You can talk to him tomorrow. You know he will not listen now" Arnav said.

Khushi looked at him for a second and without saying anything went and laid on the bed.

Arnav shook his head and got in his side of the bed.

As the time tickled by, Khushi felt a hand creep on her waist.

"Keep your hands away otherwise you will hurt YOUR baby." Khushi said sarcastically, still her eyes closed.

Arnav s hand stilled were it was. He stared at Khushi's back. She thinks he can hurt his baby? He turned her gently to look at her.

"Khushi do you think I can hurt our baby?" Arnav asked.

"And you think Aarav can hurt me?" Khushi opened her eyes.

"Khushi , I didn't mean to...I mean I was just angry...I.."

"You should have not shouted at him.."

"I know..."

Khushi inched closer to him and pulled his face up to look at her.

"Arnav ji, you are not understanding. Did you heard what he said today? He thinks we don't need him anymore. He is insecure, Arnav ji and you are not helping him feel any better" Khushi said. She notices him when anyone talks about the baby. The way his eyes starts roaming everywhere and his stiff posture as if feeling guilty for not loving the baby as everyone else does, unable to instill the eagerness in him which he sees in everyone. How can he love and wait for the baby when he feels insecure of him.

"Khushi, I didn't mean that...I too love him...Why will we leave him?...There's no need to be insecure.." Arnav said. He too loves Aarav. His being more caring towards his unborn child does not mean that he don't love or care about Aarav.

"I know,Arnav ji. But he feels insecure. And we need to do something to vanish his insecurities, soon" Khushi said softly.

Arnav took her in his arms.

"Sleep, Khushi. We will talk to him tomorrow"

Khushi closed her eyes, the slumber too far.

Khushi opened her eyes as she heard his even breathing. Untangling herself from him carefully, she got up from the bed.

Aarav heard the cracking sound of the door being open and he snapped his eyes close, tight.

Khushi entered the room, the lights were dimly glowing. She looked at the bed and shook her head. Her stubborn Son has slept in the same cloth without changing. She moved towards the bed. Laying beside Aarav she turned him towards her.

"I know you are not sleeping, so stop pretending." Khushi whispered as she brought him close to her.

Aarav's damp eyes opened slowly to look at his mother.

Khushi took her dupatta and cleared his cheek off any traces of tears.

"Why were you crying, ha?" Khushi asked softly.

"I was not crying.." he lowered his eyes.

"Don't lie and tell me why were you crying. Do you really think that I will leave you? Don't you know everyone loves you? Tell me?" Khushi asked him, looking at his downcast face.

Aarav suddenly hugged his mother, crying in the crook of her neck.

"I...I love you, Mom...please don't leave me...please.." Aarav sobbed.

Khushi tightened her hold on him.

"Aarav? What is this? Why will I leave you? You need to get this things out of your head. No one is going to leave you. Everyone loves you, Shona, why will they leave you?" Khushi ran her fingers in his hair.

Aarav didn't say anything. As his crying subsided, he broke the hug and looked at his mother.

"I sorry for my outburst earlier." Aarav apologize.

"It's ok, Aarav." Khushi again wiped his face.

"Aarav?"

"Hmm?"

"Do you want to share anything?" Khushi asked looking at him.

Aarav looked at her for few moments before shaking his head in a no.

Khushi didn't push him further.

"Ok, sleep than."

Taking him in her warmth, Khushi patted him till he was fast asleep. Kissing his forehead and tucking him properly inside the blanket, she got up from the bed. Khushi observed him. Something is bothering him and she will have to find it before it takes a permanent place in him.

So Arnav's father was his mother's kathputali only.
Because of him and his oh so obedient son act had ruined his children's lives.
Agam has to bare the label of bas****
Arnav and Anjali had to go through so much pain,
It was not only his fault,
It was Gayatri's fault too,
But it's late ..too late to correct the mistake undone,
But I loved the way she told her grand child about his past and future.

The other half of this update ..šŸ‘šŸ‘šŸ‘
Loved it very much,
The way Khushi talked to Arnav,
The best n cutest moment of this update when Khushi told him,"leave ASR outside My house."šŸ‘
The way she talked with her son,
It was very touching moment
Hope Arnav and Khushi both of them will talk to him soon.

Loved it and yes enjoyed it.
Lots of love my Gudiya,
Thanks for the pm,
Take care.
