Part 4

When Shyam lands at Indira Gandhi International Airport, he is received by Anjali, who maintains a serious and sort-of morose look to keep Shyam from suspecting what they have planned for him.

As Shyam approaches Shantivan, he sees Khushi and Arnav waiting for him outside the main door. Shyam's face lights up seeing Khushi, and he begins to leer at her. Arnav notices this and begins to fume. Khushi senses Arnav's anger boiling up, and to calm him down, she holds his arm tightly, nodding no' at him.

Arnav shivers under Khushi's touch and looks down to see her hand on his arm. She removes her hand just as she realizes she's getting too close to him. Slightly blushing, she goes back into Shantivan after telling Anjali and Shyam that she has to help make lunch.

No one else sees this exchange between Arnav and Khushi.

Khushi is alone in the kitchen, making lunch, when Shyam creeps up behind her. He gets surprised when she recognizes him without turning back.

"Shyam ji... A lot has happened between me and Arnav in these few days you were gone." Khushi says, in sadness.

"Oh really?" Shyam questions, still unsure.

"Yes, Shyam ji," she replies. "I stand stand being with him anymore... I want out. I want someone like you... After spending the past few days with Arnav, when you were so far, I have realized that you are the one who truly cares for and loves me."

"Oh Khushi ji...!" Shyam gets happy. "I love you...!" Shyam comes closer to Khushi, turns her around to face him, and hugs her.

Khushi hugs him back, and as he pulls away, she has tears in her eyes. Shyam sees this and wipes her tears away with his thumbs. He then smiles, tells her to cheer up, and goes back up to his room to check some paperwork.

Khushi completely breaks down after Shyam leaves. She turns off the gas and runs up to hers and Arnav's room. She picks up Arshiya and hugs and kisses her.

Arnav enters the room just about a minute later and puts his hand on Khushi's shoulder. Khushi puts Arshiya down on the bed. She gets up and hugs Arnav.

*Flashback*

Everyone, minus Shyam of course, is cooking up a plan to get Shyam to confess the truth. They decide something along these lines: Khushi pretends in front of Shyam that she has problems with him and wants to separate, she "gets closer" to Shyam, who then transfers all the properties that Arnav made him power of attorney of back to Anjali, Khushi gets "even more closer" to Shyam, and he finally confesses his deeds.

Whatever happened in the kitchen earlier was just in accordance with the plan... Arnav is standing just outside the kitchen, in a corner where Khushi can see him from outside but Shyam can't see him in anyway.

As Shyam is about to enter the kitchen, Arnav signals to Khushi and she starts her drama. She pretends to have fallen out-of-love with Arnav and so-called expresses a desire to be with Shyam, or so he thinks.

Khushi hugs Shyam as part of the plan, but then feels to disgusted with herself for doing so that she cries. The tears in Khushi's eyes are actually Khushi's disgust and hate for getting so close to the man who is the biggest problem in her life and caused so much pain for her family and herself as well.

As soon as Shyam leaves the kitchen, Khushi feels so disgusted with herself that she breaks down completely. She turns off the gas and runs up to hers and Arnav's room. She picks up Arshiya and hugs and kisses her. For Khushi, Arshiya is the instant and best solace she can find.

Arnav sees Khushi running up and also runs up after her, knowing what she must be going through. He enters the room and sees her hugging and kissing Arshiya. He pauses for a moment, right behind her, not knowing what to do.

Arnav knows that Khushi needs comfort, but is unsure whether she will be able to accept his shoulder and trust him enough again, after such a short time, to lean on it and let all her tears out. So, Arnav just puts his hand on her shoulder.

But with that one touch, Khushi gets so comforted and herself is so touched that she gets up and hugs Arnav after settling Arshiya down on the bed.

*End of Flashback*

As Khushi lets all her tears out on Arnav's shoulder, Arnav breathes out a sigh of relief that Khushi is finally starting to trust him again.

"Thanks, Arnav." Khushi says, as she pulls back from the hug.

"Thanks for what?" Arnav says, pretending to not know what she is talking about.

"Thanks for letting me hug you and cry on your shoulder." Khushi says, wiping her tears. "I am so disgusted with myself that I let that snake touch me."

"You don't have to do this, Khushi... You know that, na?" Arnav looks Khushi straight in the eyes.

But, Khushi turns away. She pulls back from Arnav's grip and turning her back to him, looks at Arshiya smiling up at her from the bed.

"I know, Arnav. But I want to... He deserves much worse than what we have planned for him. I am only doing whatever little I can to punish him for the crimes he has committed and the hurt he has caused out family." Khushi says in anger.

Khushi turns back to look at Arnav and they have an eyelock which is broken by Naniji coming into the room and calling them for lunch.

Over the next week, Shyam comes closer to Khushi thinking that she hates Arnav. He begins to let little secrets out - like how he married Anjali for money, how he "fell in love with Khushi". When Khushi conveys this to Arnav, he boils in anger, wanting to clobber the snake for cheating his sister and eyeing his wife.

All this, of course, has no effect on Anjali, who has made up her mind to get a divorce from Shyam and move on in her life. The last stage of the plan is executed on Anjali's birthday, symbolic because she gets the best present - independence from the farce of a marriage and mentally draining relationship that she is in with Shyam.

Khushi takes Shyam to the terrace, where in excitement he blurts out the whole truth to the police who are in hiding. He confesses to embezzling funds from Arnav's company, and cheatingly transferring Anjali's inheritance to under his name. The police record his statements and arrest him.

Anjali, Arnav and Khushi spend the next month or so going to court for the hearings of the case against Shyam, as well as the divorce petition.

Shyam, despite being a clever lawyer, is not allowed to fight for himself. Neither does any other lawyer want to fight for his already lost case. Shyam is sentenced to 10 years in jail and has a lifetime with restraining order against him filed by the Raizada's.

Anjali, on the other hand, is granted a divorce without any further petition, thanks to the sympathetic judge who understood her plight and saw right through Shyam's lies.

Arshiya and Dhruv are now 3 months old, and have started to turn over and crawl on their own.

Naniji and Buaji have gone to Vaishnodevi for a week's pilgrimage trip.

Arnav has gone to office, taking NK with him - NK recently joined Arnav's company.

Akash has gone to Kolkata for a business meet and taken Payal along with him - since she wanted to see the city.

Khushi and Anjali are in the kitchen, cooking something special for dinner since everyone is due to return home around the same time in the evening.

Hari-Prakash has gone back to his village though, since his old mother is very ill. Om-Prakash is taking care of Arshiya and Dhruv while Khushi and Anjali are busy.

Dhruv accidentally hits Arshiya with his hand and she starts crying. While Om-Prakash tries to lovingly calm down Arshiya, Dhruv, in his own innocent baby-mind, realizes his mistake and tries to crawl to Arshiya and apologize.

Dhruv, however, misjudges the distance between him and Arshiya, and not noticing the edge of the bed, accidentally walks off it. Now Dhruv begins to cry hard, and this makes Arshiya cry even louder.

A frantic Om-Prakash carefully carries both Arshiya and Dhruv to the kitchen and hands them over to their respective mothers. He explains the whole situation, worrying Anjali even more when she sees the huge bump on Dhruv's head.

Khushi switches off the gas, and tells Om-Prakash to take care of Shantivan while she and Anjali have gone off for a few hours with the kids.

Khushi drives the car to the hospital, while Anjali sits at the back with baby-baskets both the kids are in. Khushi is tries hard to concentrate on both driving and keeping Anjali calm.

"Di, you take Dhruv and go see the doctor. I'll park the car and bring Arshiya with me." Khushi tells Anjali as they reach the hospital.

Due to unavailability of parking space, Khushi takes a round and then comes back. It's nearly 30 minutes later that Khushi finally parks the car and comes up to the floor Anjali is on.

As the minutes passed, Khushi was getting more and more worried about Anjali. However, when she finds Anjali, she is surprised to see a calm and composed woman.

"Di, how is Dhruv?" Khushi asks Anjali.

"Oh, he is fine!" Anjali replies, with a calm tone, as if she wasn't the one who was so frantic just minutes earlier.

"And you were worried for no reason, na?"

"Yeah, I guess. The doctor said he's absolutely fine. He doesn't think anything's wrong."

"Then where is Dhruv?"

"With the doctor. He's just doing some additional checkups to make sure."

"But Di... You're sure there's no problem na?"

"No, Khushi. No problem. Dhruv is absolutely fine! The doctor said so. Now who's worrying more?" Anjali teases Khushi. They both laugh.

Soon, the doctor comes out with Dhruv. Anjali immediately stands up upon seeing him playing with a happy and laughing Dhruv. Anjali smiles at Dhruv and the doctor, and Khushi notices this.
