I have confession to make. I am addicted to Drabbles😳.You should never ever stop writing !!!!
Parvati was woken by the gentle shuffle of slippered feet against the tiled floor. While she had never been a very deep sleeper, the last month had been particularly harsh. The merest whisper of a sound could pull her back to consciousness just as she would be paddling the twilight zone between wakefulness and sleep.
She opened her eyes, automatically looked towards the open window, and sighed. He stood silhouetted against the moonlight, arms folded against his chest.
Rudra was a chronic insomniac. She knew that. But she had never allowed herself to dwell on this fact before.
It was different now. He had been home for only two days. He was injured. He needed rest. How would he get better if he never got a decent night's sleep?
Parvati had no idea what kept him awake long after the last twinkling lights of Chandangarh had gone out. And she could not ask. Just because he hadn't renewed his demand that she leave, didn't mean he would welcome intrusive questions from her.
And Paro had learned from experience that she didn't always want the answers, anyway.
Her bare feet didn't make a sound as she padded over to the window. But he half-turned his head in acknowledgment.
Slowly, almost as though she didn't want to frighten him, she slipped her fingers over a forearm and tugged. He allowed her to pull him away from the window, lead him back to the bed in the middle of the room, and push him down on it.
Throughout this mute exercise, Paro had steadfastly stared at her own hands gripping his arm. She seemed fascinated by the contrast of her pale skin against his much darker colouring.
Relinquishing her grip on his arm, she turned away with a gentle reminder. "You need to sleep. You're not going to heal if you don't sleep."
She made her way to the other side of the bed, all the while aware of his eyes following her. It was the oddest thing, but the room seemed to be shrinking day by day. While it had once appeared massive to her, it barely seemed to be able to contain the two of them now.
At times like this, she felt positively claustrophobic. Forcing herself to lie down on the other side of the bed, she clutched her blanket under her chin, determined to ignore the warmth radiating from the heavy dip in the mattress beside her. She fought to quell the hum that spread from the apples of her cheeks, to her breasts confined by her too-tight choli, to the pit of her stomach, right down to the soles of her feet. She felt suspiciously like a sultry moth dancing around a bright flame. A far cry from the fluttering butterflies she was so fond of.
He still hadn't said a word, and she would not-- even as sleep hovered elusively just beyond their reach.
Parvati viciously cursed the bug of insomnia that seemed to be contagious.
