Deepa Parab plays Sneha in the Sony daily Thodi Khushi Thode Gham. Earlier seen in shows like Reth, Meet and Pratishodh, she talks about being Sneha….

Your character's biggest dilemma is how to make people think rationally.

Thodi Khushi Thode Gham is set in a typical Gujarati joint family system. There are sons, daughters, wives and children. Sneha is the youngest bahu.

She is extremely emotional but at the same time very practical. Though she makes a hue and cry when things go wrong, she is also concerned about keeping the family together.

The biggest stumbling block in Sneha's path is Mansukhlal Shah (Arvind Rathore)?

Yes, he is the patriarch of the house and Sneha's father-in-law. Though he is a leading industrialist, he is autocratic and dictatorial. He believes that only he and his sons are responsible for their success in business and status in society.

The women in the household are completely ignored. Sneha reminds him that the women in his family have also contributed in a big way to his success.

So there is a direct confrontation?

Sneha tries to knock sense in Mansukhlal but he refuses to budge. It becomes a battle between Mansukhlal and the men of the house versus Sneha and the women of the house.

At the moment Mansukhlal is missing in action.

The track has him kidnapped, so he is away from the scene. But to add to Sneha's dilemma is the fact that her husband Pranav (Amit Jain) is behaving likewise. There is also conflict between Sneha and her hubby as a result.

How believable is Sneha's character?

It is extremely real. In fact, several viewers, especially from Jain families, tell me that they identify with Sneha. What is shown is exactly the stuff unfolding in their homes.

The generation gap is a big issue. They want the girls to be educated and don't deny them anything, but ultimately they want them to sit at home.

Do you identify with Sneha?

There is 80 per cent of Sneha in Deepa. Given the situation, I would react similarly to Sneha.
