Chapter 8:TruthUnveiled

The next morning, woke up to see Arnav sleeping on the chair, which was placed next to her bed. She rubbed her eyes slowly and looked at him. He had been there all night taking care of her? How could someone be so sweet. Why was he so sweet? Why wasn't he mean to her? She got up and shook him slowly. He got up with a jerk.

"Do you.. do you want anything? How are you now?" he said holding his back. Crap, he had pain in his back. He wasn't used to sleeping on a chair obviously!

"No. I think you should get sleep!" she said. " I'm alright!" he said getting up. "Arnav, sleep!" she said, "Your back will become really sore and you won't be able to work! Whose going to take care of me then?" Arnav smiled slowly and went towards to bed and lay down. Khushi helped him with the blanket.

"Thank you!" she said. "For taking care of me! Now, just sleep okay? I'll wake you up in a while. And please don't worry, I am fine now."

Arnav tried to smile but was asleep already! Khushi went down to prepare his breakfast and the first thing she saw downstairs was SHYAM. Why was he here? Now what did he want? All these questions went on in Khushi's mind.

"Good morning, Mrs. Raizada!" he said with his usual charm.

"Shyam, why are you here? Please go away. I don't want to speak to you!" she said angrily. She didn't want Arnav to know this way. She wanted to tell him on her own but she didn't get a chance yet. "Look, Arnav shouldn't know!"

"Oh, so your husband doesn't know about us? Huh. Interesting!" he said.

"What do you want Shyam?" she asked bluntly. Her heart raced. She couldn't look at his cold face. He was no longer the Shyam she loved. He was cold and sore.

"I just want to talk to you!" he said. "No." she replied immediately. "Khushi, listen, you owe me an explanation!" he said. "No, now I don't. Not after you got engaged to someone else!" she said. "So what did you want me to do? Sit at home and cry over you?" he yelled.

"Shh! Speak softly! And Shyam, I didn't willingly marry Arnav..! I didn't have any other option!" she said.. "Now please leave from here.. This isn't the right place to talk!" she was scared. Hell scared. She had even seen how angry Arnav got when his food wasn't on the table on time and this.. this was about her!

"Only if you promise to meet me for lunch!" Shyam said.

"No Shyam.. I wont! This is wrong!" she said.

"No it is not Khushi! Don't I get one chance to know what was the thing that stopped you from marrying me?" he asked.

"Ok FINE FINE. Now will you go?" she said.. she couldn't believe herself. She had actually agreed. She wanted closure. Finally. One last time.

Shyam told her the place and time and then left. Khushi went back to do her work. Her mind was distracted all along. She kept thinking about lunch. Arnav came down for breakfast and as they had breakfast together Arnav asked her at least 4 times 'Did she feel better?'

Before Arnav left for office she asked, "Arnav, Can I go for lunch today? With a friend." She asked.

Arnav smirked, "I am not your father Khushi, that you need to take permission, but I can't let you go, not today!" he said. Khushi looked surprise. "Look, I would have never said no to you for anything, but you are not well and eating outside now is a bad idea. I don't think you should go'" he said softly. Khushi smiled at her husband's care. She didn't want to go either but did she have an option? "Why don't you call your friend over?" he asked. Khushi nodded, "Alright, I'll see." She said. Arnav knew she was sad but she couldn't help it. He really cared about her but he wouldn't let her go out, not when she wasn't well.

Arnav didn't ask who was her friend was. Not because he didn't care but because he knew she didn't want to tell him or else she would have told him her name! Arnav left for office and Khushi's mind was still confused whether to go or not. And again there was a fight with her mind & heart. Just this time her heart wanted to stop her from going because it felt guilty for cheating Arnav & also it didn't want to take any of that pain again. Where as, the mind told her to go or else Shyam would create a scene at her house! And this time she listened to her heart.

It was 1:30 and she was eating her lunch at home. She respected Arnav and she didn't want to do something he didn't like. She ate Khichdi at home when the doorbell rang. She knew who it was. She couldn't deal with him, not now. She went to her room and instructed to tell the maid that she wasn't at home.

She paced from left to right in her room. "Why can't Shyam just leave me alone," she asked herself, "What is his problem? He is engaged but he still wants to talk to me? He was probably dating that girl the entire time he was with me and now he wants me to give HIM an explanation? He could go die for all I care!" she said.

There was a knock on her door. She relaxed and thought Shyam must have gone. She opened the door and there he was, Shyam, why couldn't he just go? She couldn't take this any longer. "You broke your promise!" he said coming in. "I don't care!" she said. "I know that. You have never cared about me." He said so insensitively that it hurt Khushi. "Shyam Oberoi, leave. Please." She said. If not anything, Arnav had taught her to be calm and control her emotions, atleast slightly. "I am not going anywhere until you tell me why you married Arnav. It was for the money and power? Or did he interest you otherwise also?" he asked ruthlessly.

"It was for Bui. Not money, not power. Just Bui." She said calmly. 'How the hell does Arnav do this?'  she thought.

"How much will you lie, huh? I spoke to Bui that day when she called me over, she told me that she was thinking of getting us married. That's why she asked me if I wanted to marry you!" He said. 'Oh, so now I am a liar. Great. This is just perfect.' "That was all I had to say, you can leave now!" she said moving away. Shyam held her hand and pulled her towards him. He put his hands around her waist and held her up front.

"Don't you walk away from me!" he said gritting his teeth. "Ouch, Leave me!" she said trying to push him away. "I thought we were in love Khushi, and this is what you did to me?" he said with disgust. "Shyam I was forced, how many times do I have to tell you? I didn't want to cheat on you! Hell, you cheated on me! I can't believe I'm giving you an explanation!" she said breaking down. Shyam was hurting her. The pain was too much for her ill body. She couldn't stop her tears. "I love you Khushi, I still do. I didn't cheat on you. You did. You married someone else." Shyam said in his obsession. He could just see her and no one else.

"Oh, and you just engaged someone, that isn't cheating?" she screamed.

"I just engaged her to reach to you. I don't even know her that well'"

"Oh great, so you got engaged to a random girl, and she fell for you as she saw you? Sometime ago you said you had moved on and now you're saying this! I really don't know what to say Shyam." Khushi asked sarcastically.

"Yes! Yes she did, just like you. I was broken okay, and she was there, so I' I'"You what? You fell for her too? You got engaged to her and came here? To win me back? GET LOST. I hate you!" Khushi said trying to pull away.

"Khushi, please try and understand, I love you." He said. Khushi's tears hadn't stopped. Shyam's grip had just tightened. "Shyam, Leave me this is wrong!" She screamed.

"Let go of her!" Arnav said from the door. Khushi's eyes widened as she saw him come towards her. His eyes had horror, pain, anger and so many emotions that Khushi shut her eyes. It was all over. "Mr. Arnav Singh Raizada!" Shyam said holding onto Khushi. "I think you should leave. This is between her and me. You should just mind your own business." "She is my business. She is my wife." He said angrily as he pushed Shyam away. Shyam's hold on Khushi loosened and Arnav could pull her away. "Arnav I'"Shh." He said, "Not now." His eyes were wide and there was anger and pain in them. Khushi was scared. "So, what were you saying?" Arnav said turning to Shyam. "I am not leaving until I get to finish my conversation with Khushi! Who are you to come between us?" he said. "Khushi," Arnav said bluntly, not even looking at her. "Do you want to speak to him?" Arnav asked. Khushi shook her head and managed to bring out a small "no." Arnav had got his answer, "So, Mr. Oberoi, leave." "Or what?" Shyam said with pique. "Or else I am going to throw you out of my house!" he said. Khushi was shocked. She didn't know where Arnav got his courage. After everything that he must have just witnessed he was still protecting her? She couldn't believe it.

"I would like to see you try to do anything to me!" "Don't challenge me. I am ARNAV SINGH RAIZADA!" he said raising his voice; "If I want I can throw you out of this planet, let alone my OWN house!" he said holding Shyam's collar. Khushi was so scared. Arnav had never raised his voice like that before.  She shivered. Shyam left without another word. He didn't want to risk it either. "Are you alright?" he asked Khushi, still not looking at her. His voice was back to normal, calm. "Hmm." Khushi said slowly. She was going to explain everything. "Arnav I," she said looking up but he was already gone.
