Chapter 8
When Khushi angrily strode into the house angrily muttering to herself, her family thought she was having one of her crazy attacks and let her be. She, however, straight went to the almost withered bookshelf where her father kept all papers related to Devi Maiyya Mishtan Bhandar, and began her search for the contract documents.
She would find a loophole in the deal, she kept telling herself that would force Arnav Singh Raizada to back out. She knew a few things about law. She had taken two semesters in corporate law before she decided she wanted to be a fashion designer instead.
She sifted through the contract with a tooth-comb until she came to clause 27.2.1 which stated that if during the time the land was leased to Shashi Gupta, the title had to be transferred to the next of kin for whatever reason, then the contract automatically gets renewed for another period of 99 years with the same conditions.
"Aha", Khushi thought to herself, "All I need to do is convince Dad to transfer the title to Payal's name and then Mr Raizada can go bite dust!" Khushi was so excited that she jumped up and down before seeking Shashi. She met him and told him that she had found out about his problem. Before he could question her on it, she also told him that she had a solution for it.
And went onto the explain the clause that could perhaps save the day. She told him to transfer the title of the shop in Payal's name so that he could continue paying the same amount of rent without worrying for another 99 years. Also as the title would be in Payal's name, it would secure her future to a great extent. She also asked him to encourage Payal to help out in the shop as often as she could so she would learn the tricks of the trade and could take over from Shashi in the near future. "God knows you've worked hard all your life and now you can do with some rest", she told him.
Shashi was impressed with Khushi. He still thanked the day she came into their lives. She was good luck and she always managed to find a solution to all their problems and put a smile on their face.
He agreed. Khushi jumped. She immediately called a lawyer, asked him to draw up the papers transferring the ownership rights of Devi Maiyya Mishtan Bhandar from Shashi Gupta to Payal Gupta. The lawyer told Khushi that the papers would be ready for signing by tomorrow morning and Khushi slept peacefully that night. She knew she didn't have to accept that demeaning offer. She would meet Arnav Raizada and tell him just that tomorrow. For the first time in weeks, Khushi Gupta slept thinking about knights, princes, true love stories and happily ever after's.

Forbes named Arnav Singh Raizada the Entrepreneur of the Year in 2012. In 2011, he was on their watch list. In 2013, Forbes had a special correspondent sent to India to cover their feature on 20 billionaires who made their fortune overnight. Arnav Singh Raizada featured fifth on their list.
He didn't get to be where he was with his eyes closed. Arnav was a very good chess player and his game skills were often translated into his business life. He always anticipated his opponent's next move and was well prepared for it. He knew Khushi Kumari Gupta would not give in without a fight. So he had his eyes trained on her to see what she would do next.
His aides told him about Khushi's conversation with her lawyer. Arnav chuckled. The girl surely had brains. He didn't know how she had figured out about clause 27.2.1 and he really didn't care. He knew the clause became void if a sale happened before the transfer took place. He ghost of a smile graced his lips. Khushi Gupta was fast but not fast enough to stop him from getting what he wanted.
By openly defying him, she had just made herself that much more desirable to Arnav Singh Raizada. Arnav loved destroying everything that defied him, be it corporates or individuals. He was particularly looking forward "destroying" Khushi Kumari Gupta. But he would do it in his own way.
And so at 12.30 AM on a in wee hours of midnight, a Mr Chanchalani was woken up to draft a sale deed of Devi Maiyya Mishtan Bhandar. At 1.30 AM, the owner of the shop, Mr Bhandari was woken up and paid twice the asking price for the shop. By 3.00 AM Arnav Singh Raizada was the official owner of the shop that was located at the main crossroads of Gomti Nagar in Lucknow.
After having finished what he set out to do, Arnav changed for the night but as usual sleep evaded him. He tossed and turned in his bed for three hours and then at 6 am got up to get dressed for a very important meeting with his new client - Ms Khushi Kumari Gupta
