Chapter 29

Part 29:

Sanjeevani locker room:

"Aaj mujhe Armaan se baat karni hi hogi… I need to know how he is taking this news." Shilpa whispered to herself.

She hears someone shuffle behind and turns around to see Riddhima and Sid enter the room. Riddhima looks up to see Shilpa, and her expression changed dramatically. She directly went to her locker. Shilpa looked at Sid and he looked back at her, giving her a very somber look. Shilpa takes a couple of deep breaths.

Shilpa opens her mouth to say something-

"Don't! Do not utter a single word. I don't want to create a scene here in the hospital for everybody to have a good show." Riddhima interrupted.

Shilpa took a couple of steps forward. "Let me atleast explain myself. Give me one chance!" Shilpa said, her voice a little stronger today.

Riddhima turned around to face her, a fierce expression on her face. "Not here! You just won't let it go would you? I am telling you, nothing you say will change anything! Not one damn thing!"

"Then let me try once. It doesn't matter to you anyway!" Shilpa argued.

Riddhima was boiling with anger, she was more angry with herself for even considering this. how can I trust her again!

"Look-"

"Please Riddhima Di…" Shilpa whispered.

Riddhima remained rooted to the spot, and her vision suddenly blurred. She loved Shilpa so much, but now that she knew it was bitoo, with that knowledge came the realization that bittoo had betrayed her in the worst possible way. She took a deep breath and tried to sound mean-

"Fine! Let's talk about this later at our place!" and turned and walked out of there.

Shilpa smiled. She was so happy. She turned to look at Sid and he grinned at her. She ran to him, and hugged him out of gratitude and happiness. She was so relieved! Sid smiled and pulled her into a tight hug.

"I am so happy Sid… Atleast she agreed to talk about it…"

Sid nodded, when suddenly shilpa was wrenched away from his arms. Sid opened his eyes to see a very shocked Shilpa and a very, very angry Armaan glaring at him. He had a tight hold over shilpa's arm and he looked at Armaan as he was ready to shoot.

"Armaan-"

"Leave…" Armaan muttered softly, the calmness in his voice betraying the sea of rioting emotions inside him.

"Armaan just --"

"Leave!" Armaan yelled. Sid sighed, knowing that Shilpa was in a lot of trouble. Armaan was very angry right now, and Shilpa will have to deal with him tactfully. He looked at Shilpa to check if she was okay with him leaving her her alone with Armaan. she nodded back.

"Go Sid…" she said softly.

Armaan glared at Sid's retreating back. When he had entered Sanjeevani, he was in no mood to talk to Shilpa! He was so mad at her. she had lied to him. Finding out the truth about her identity was a big shock. But even more heart wrenching was the pain that she had lied to him about it. If she lied abut her identity then he didn't know if he could trust her again. So he had decided to ignore her in hopes that he might ignore the pain too. But when he entered the locker to see Shilpa and Sid locked in an intimate embrace, that was the last straw. He just lost it. He couldn't bear to see Shilpa with someone else!

"Armaan…" Shilpa said from beside him.

His gaze snapped to her. He pulled her close and turned so that her back slammed against the locker and locked her wrists to either side of her head, and looked into her eyes deeply, not saying a single word.

"Armaan… chodo mujhe dard ho raha hai… ugh" Shilpa tried to free herself. But his grip was very strong.

"Itna sa dard she nahi sakti tum… have you any idea what I am going through right now?" Armaan said sarcastically and left her hands with a jerk. He turned around from her, but she clutched his arm and turned him around to face her.

"Armaan… about yesterday, please just listen to me once? "

His eyes took a dangerous light and Shilpa knew she was walking on thin ice. His gaze sharpened on her.

"Tum kal bhi waha se aisehi chale gaye-"

"Toh kya tumhare aur jhut boln ka wait karta?" Armaan said.

Shilpa gasped. "Armaan yeh tum kya-"

"Sahi keh raha hu! I do not trust you anymore! You have destroyed everything!"

"Kya? Armaan wait… I have not lied to you… I may have not have told you everything about my childhood or my history with Riddhima di, but I have never lied to you!"

"And you think that makes it all right?" Armaan yelled.

Shilpa winced. "No, of course not! But I didn't know what to do? I was so confused! What with your history with Riddhima and then us and… I really was very scared of telling you. I did not know how you will react…"

"Thanks to you… I won't have anything to react to!"

"Armaan… but I swear I haven't lied to you…"

Armaan narrowed his eyes."I don't believe you…" he whispered.

Her eyes widened at his blatant admission. "You have lost my trust Shilpa… There's nothing more left in our relationship…"

"What? Armaan… "

"You hid all this from me… god knows what other surprises you have planned for us. You upset Riddhima, Padma aunty and everyone else. The very people tht you clam to love sp much are the ones you ended up hurting. Don't you realize what you have done?"

"But that's just it! I did not want to hurt you all! I did not know what to do. I wish everyday of my life that I don't have to make that decision of telling you about the truth that will change everything. But I was scared Armaan… I was waiting for the right time!"

"Oh no! don't give me that bullshit! You had a lot of time to tell us about it… but you chose not to…"

"Why would I want to do that… you don't think I tried telling you about it like a thousand timed everyday-"

"Then why didn't you? Did you not have faith in our love at all?" Armaan atlast said what was bothering him since last night. His voice reflected the depth of his pain and agony.

"Do you realize the hurt and pain I felt when I found out that you told Sid about this but not me. Apparently you trust Sid more then you trust me…" he whispered.

"No, he just happened to find out-"

"How convenient!"

"Armaan I never wanted to do this. I never meant to lose your trust and change what we have-"

"And that's exacty what you ended up doing… you destroyed what we had…"

She gasped and tried to hold his hand, but he did not let her.

"I think we should just take a break from all this for a while…"

She stilled. "You mean us?"

Armaan just looked at her, not trusting himself to speak.

"And I can say nothing that will change your mind?" Shilpa asked, numbed to the core.

Armaan stared back at her, not even nodding. Shilpa looked back at him, willing her pain and all the other emotions behind a tough faade.

As her tears threatened to spill out, she started walking towards the door, not wanting Armaan to see her cry.

A few days later:

Shilpa sat at the edge of the window, staring outside, looking at the people around. She thought about the past few days of her life. Armaan still continued to ignore her. Forget about talking, he did not even greet her, just nodded at her whenever she entered the room or saw him. And the talk with Riddhima hadn't been very fruitful either.

She didn't know what to do. How to fix the mess? Why couldn't people understand that no matter how she handled it… she would always be the culprit. She looked out side to see little girl holding her father's hand and walking down the street laughing and licking the ice-cream. So happy they looked. She turned to her left to see a couple fighting over a book, and laughing about it and then hugging each other. She quickly turned away, blinking her tears back.

She wiped the tears from her face, thinking of how happy she was with Armaan, and how everything had changed within a few moments…

Armaan on the other hand, was staring at a photograph of him and Shilpa… it was just after Sid and Riddhima's wedding. Armaan held her close to him, whispering something in her ear.

Both of them thought about each other, mourning over what they had, and how much they missed each other…
