Chapter 20
I stared long and hard at the picture that I had in my hand. I found it in Virat's closet. It was a picture of me in a pink and silver embroidered saree. I picked it up to see a note attached to it.
"If I had just one chance to meet god to thank him for something, I can close my eyes and say that the most precious gift he gave me was meeting you. I thought I was happy with my life before and you came into my life and showed me what true happiness was. Your heart of gold is something I thought was only in those classic hindi movies. Someone once told me life comes again and again but true love comes only once, zindagi bar bar milti hai par sacha pyaar sirf ek bar milta hai. People spend a lifetime looking for true love, and I was truly blessed that I didn't even have to look for you. Now that I found you, I won't let you go. Just remember even the strongest wind won't be able to do any harm to you without going through me first. I love you and I always will. "
"Manvi, you ok," I heard a deep voice and immediately looked up to see him by the door staring at me.
"oh woh, Dr. Vadhera, when did you take this picture, and the note?" I asked meekly as handing it to him.
He sighed as he helped me up gently holding me from my shoulders. "Manvi its late we can talk about this later," he said avoiding the question.
"Dr. Vadhera please, was the note for me,"
I looked up to see his eyes filled with water. "Manvi, you have been through so much and I didn't want to tell you this way. You have just started recognizing your parents. I wanted to let you heal on your own and not force you to remember anything. Remember a couple weeks ago I asked if you remembered anything about the ring. We were engaged Manvi. My parents are extremely good friends with your parents and we fell in love when you came to India. I came to U.S. for a week and I proposed to you on valentine's day."
I sat this listening to his words and haunting images of the past began bombarding my brain. I felt a sharp pain coming from my back to my head and felt my legs giving up on holding my weight. I was anticipating a strong crash when I felt two arms surround me.
"hey you ok?"
I smiled seeing him there again but then looked at my surroundings.
"What happened," I asked as I slowly sat up.
He immediately rushed to my side and helped me. "Woh you fainted and blacked out for a while, you really shouldn't get out of bed for that long," he said fixing my IV's."
I nodded my head. "Dr. Vadhera?"
He looked up and chuckled, "Manvi you can call me Virat, I am probably only a year
older than you," he said smiling.
I smiled back, "Vvirat, I remember I was looking at a picture of me in a pink saree."
He smiled as he handed the picture to me, "its all yours, I took this picture of you in India," he said smiling. "and the note?" I asked.
"Someone special wrote it for you, I want you to remember that on your own ok. Don't' worry you remembered your parents on your own; everything will come back to you slowly. Now be a good girl and rest. I will come back in a little bit and we can go on a walk around the hospital again," he smiled.
His eyes had such innocence to them that I couldn't help but stare. The dark brown hue of them twinkled in the sunlight that now filled the room.
"Virat," I barely whispered as he was about to leave as I held to his hand.
"hmm, Manvi tum thik to ho," he immediately turned around worried.
"thank you so much for everything, could you stay with me a while, I feel lonely in the room alone," I asked clutching on to his hand.
He immediately pulled up a chair and sat next to my bed. I fell asleep with the last thing I remember is him talking about stories of when I came to India and the hilarious games me played. We had started a game to pass the time of asking each other questions back and forth. I ended up asking him what his favorite food was and we ended up talking about the kulfi I made when I was in India the first time I met him. I was in a deep sleep when I felt his hands letting go of me. My eyes immediately opened to see him getting up. He frowned seeing me getting up.
"Manvi, I have to go for hospital rounds. I will be back later in the afternoon, you sleep till then," he said gently stroking my hair.
I nodded my head "thank you for keeping me company," I barely whispered, as I feel back into a deep sleep waiting till he would come back in the afternoon to continue the game we started. I felt his deep connection with him, something I hadn't even felt with my parents. I brushed these thoughts aside and forced myself to sleep knowing if I didn't rest now he wouldn't take me out later.
