Chapter 14
[MEMBERSONLY]
ArHi SS: Mere Brother Ki Dulhan

Chapter 14
Presenting the second last chapter of this SS, I hope you all enjoy reading it.
The line went dead and Arnav stood there, holding the phone to his ear, listening to the beep of the disconnected call and watching his defeat. Khushi just told him that all was over. They'll never succeed. They'll always end up hurting each other. There was no "they" or "us" or "we", there were only two single people named Arnav and Khushi.
He sighed and grabbed his keys from the table and walked down the stairs.
"So someone finally manage win over his lady and is now going to cherish the victory huh?" Anjali asked as she simply appeared out of nowhere and Arnav laughed languidly which caused Anjali big wide grin to almost vanish.
"What happened Chote?"
"Vice versa happened Di" He really needed to spit things. If he didn't, he'd explode like a volcano and then these people had brought him till there, they were the best mates to share.
"I didn't get you Chote"
"You just said that someone is going to celebrate the victory, well it's vice versa. I am going to lament over my defeat"
"Why what happened?"
"Khushi just said that it's all over. She said that we will never go far. She'll never understand me, I'll never understand and we'll all end up hurting each other"
"Why? Didn't you send her those earrings?"
"Those earrings ruined it all. She thought, actually, I thought that I'll able to pacify her by earrings but she found it humiliating to be pleased by such expensive stuff"
"Oh DM.. Why didn't we think of this before?" Anjali said on the nearby couch, clutching her forehead.
"What didn't you think before?"
The voice itself washed Arnav with relief. His savior was here and now there was no way Khushi was not being his. She had done so much for them and now she'll do more her.
"What's up ASR?"
Lavanya said as she hugged Anjali and then give him a quick squeeze.
"Up? Everything's down La" He groaned
"I knew it. I knew it you'll mess up. Seriously who in the world made you a business tycoon? You don't even know how to please a lady"
"She's not some random girl or I would've went on my honeymoon already"
"I thought he'll say I'll be a father already" Anjali interjected and they both burst into laughter.
"I swear ASR! Even I wouldn't have been so hasty, provided how much interested I was in you" La said patting her shoulder.
"Are you done La?"
"Sorry Sorry..." La said and composed herself.
"Good" Arnav said rolling his eyes.
"Come on boy! Spit out the details" She said plastering a tight slap on his shoulder.
**~~~**
"Listen Khushi, just because I played a role in bringing you and Arnav ji together doesn't mean I did a sin"
Khushi rolled her eyes.
"Yes but you could've told me. But you decided to please your in laws and then you don't even care for your sister"
"I was caring for my sister and that's the sole reason I did so much."
Khushi laughed sardonically.
"Right.. everyone is doing so much nowdays."
"Listen to me. I was not in this from the beginning. Remember when you went to fetch Arnav ji at our reception because Di wasn't feeling well, she was faking it and Akaash and I witnessed it. We demanded for a complete elucidation and that's when Di and Nani told us their plans. Trust me Khushi, at first I totally refused them. I was adamant that you and Arnav ji are totally opposite people and that you'll always end up being hurt by his words or deeds. It took a great amount of persuasion that Di was able to convince me. Arnav ji didn't know of all this. He eventually got to know when he took you to the farm house and your so called marriage proposal mystery was solved. I always thought of you first and if Di hadn't put appropriate justification I would've refused then and there, not caring what situation would that put me in"
Khushi was silent. How could she question her sister's intention?
"I am sorry"
"It's okay. I know you are pissed up at him..."
"Don't even talk about it jiji"
"Khushi, umm... ek baat boolun?"
"Kia?"
"Bura nahi manana"
"Nahi"
"I think you are over-reacting. I mean I never thought you could be so obstinate... jane bhi do"
"Kia janey doon?"
"Yeh fuzool ka ghussa"
"What the hell jiji? You think I am being unreasonable"
"Yes and that too for no reason"
"That man tried to buy me"
"NO HE DIDN'T. He tried to please you"
"Please my foot. What did he think that I would actually fall for his money? If I would've, wouldn't I get that lehenga as a tip? Who cares as long as I had that beautiful piece of clothing?"
"That's the only means of pleasing he knows Khushi. I don't think he has ever tried to please someone except Di and some gifts is what works for her"
"But I am not his Di"
"Yeah but he doesn't any other way"
Khushi laughed.
"He knows thousands way of hurting me and zero ways of apologizing."
"He said sorry"
"OMG! Are you siding with him?" Khushi snapped
"Yes because you being irrational"
"Oh Bravo jiji!"
"It's useless talking to you. You've simply gone nuts. I don't know what has irked you so much but I know that you two have gone numerous times in a dissension and things turn out well. You know what! You are just trying to be important" Payal snapped back
"You think so?" Khushi asked, seething in anger.
"No! I know so" Payal snapped and cut the call.
Khushi was panting hard. She and Payal had never gone in such an argument and now when they had, Khushi was forced to think of her words.
Was she really being too hard? Or was she trying to be important? Probably because being Arnav's lady love was something which was digested so easily and she decided to be more difficult.
"Just because she found someone as sweet as Jejaji doesn't mean that I am over-reacting. He deserves it" She thought.
**~~~**
"No offense ASR, but I think you've known Khushi for a very long time and this much time is sufficient to understand that she will never ever pleased by mere expensive gifts. She's.."
"Different, thanks I know that I already" Arnav snapped. La was here to help her out and she was not helping him. He had Khushi criticizing all his actions, the last thing he wanted was to hear the same from La's mouth.
"Yeah but, you've faced the worst of the personalities and you know how to tackle everyone, and Khushi is the most important person for you, then why did you simply rush?"
Damn she had a point! Arnav thought. He should've thought a little more, planned something grandeur. He should've done some homework but then..
"You are right but La as you've said I've faced the worst of personalities, but the point is my initial clients were not successful. It's something what you learn from experience and I don't know whether it's fortunate or unfortunate but Khushi's the first girl who I fell in love with it, I don't know how to tackle her"
"So what do you want? 100 of ladies until you know how to play with her" La said, rolling her eyes. She had always thought that Arnav would never lose and seeing him all defeated was pissing him up. But the moments she said the last word, she knew she had pressed the wrong buttons.
"I AM NOT PLAYING WITH HER LA" Arnav stood as he roared. He couldn't believe she said that.
"I know I know sorry! Just a slip of tongue, I swear ASR.."
"Unbelievable"
"I swear I didn't mean that" La pleaded and Arnav sat down.
"See La I know you think me as the boss who exactly how to chew his puppy on his accord but trust me, I am a human being and I am not perfect"
Lavanya's eyes went wider and wider until Arnav feared that they will fall out of the sockets.
"What?" He asked, raising his brow.
"Can't believe you said that"
"Said wh.. oh.. things changes" He laughed as he spoke.
"I didn't know they did so drastically"
"Enough of my leg-pulling, let's come back to the topic"
La nodded and both of thought of some good ways to placate Khushi and her anger.
After some time, it was La who spoke up.
"What if I meet Khushi and see she wants, then I'll tell you and you can do accordingly"
Arnav laughed and La made a bad face
"What's so funny"
"A moment ago, you were accusing me of not knowing Khushi and now you are suggesting this. What in this big spherical world makes you think that she'll accept the fact that you haven't met me first or that every part of your conversation will not come to me"
"Oh.."
"And second, I want to win her by myself. I want to work so hard so that she knows that I'll never hurt her because making up to her is so damn hard. She'll have a hope that she gets hurt, I'll be there to apologize in the best of manners."
"But ASR she's not ready to hear anything from you"
"Yeah but who said she's not ready to see anything from me" Arnav said, his lips curving upward.
Lavanya's squeezed her eyes.
"What are you planning?"
"I don't know if it works but I know that if I am not able to succeed this time, I rather give up my dream of marrying her."
"Don't say so! She'll forgive you. Trust me"
"Okay then La, lend me your ears."
**~~~**
"That's the only means of pleasing he knows Khushi. I don't think he has ever tried to please someone except Di and some gifts is what works for her"
"It's useless talking to you. You've simply gone nuts. I don't know what has irked you so much but I know that you two have gone numerous times in a dissension and things turn out well. You know what! You are just trying to be important"
"You are just trying to be important"
These words were constantly revolving in Khushi's mind. With every passing sentence, she knew she was being too hard. But at the same time, she wasn't being important. She had begun to be selfish, she had shown enough selflessness. It was her selflessness that she went to save Payal's wedding and fall in those arms and land herself into this big pool of mess. It was her selflessness that she didn't quit the day she realized that Arnav was her boss only because her family needed her. It was her selflessness that she worked to bring Akaash and Payal together and it was her selflessness that she whole-heartedly accept Payal marrying Akaash when she knew that she'll be in constant touch with Arnav then. Now, she can't be more selfless that Arnav is doing so much and thus she gives up.
He had hurt so many times, that she was gone immune to it but still she feared it more and more. The intensity of pain she went through got severe every single time and she was scared that one day it would be unbearable.
She was glad that Arnav loved her, infact she was the happiest person on this planet, but then, probably this time she'd be hurt to that maximum extent too.
Anyhow, she didn't need to clarify things to anybody. If anyone thought that she was trying to steal the show, they may do so. But all she cared was the herself. If Arnav really had to make it up to her, he had to work "hard" her way, not his way. When she realizes that he's working hard enough, she knew he'd never hurt her then. All she wished was for the possibility of that day because she really didn't want to lose him.
