Prologue
All that is gold does not glitter
Not all who wander are lost
The old that is strong does not wither
Deep Roots are not reached by frost
From the ashes a fire shall be woken
A light from the shadows shall spring
Renewed shall be blade that was broken
The crownless again shall be king.

~Prologue~
Life had been very cruel to Khushi. An orphan at the age of 8 to an unwanted wife at the age of 19 to a sidekick of a lover, she had been through it all. She had faced it all and there was not a soul in this world that could call her a quitter. Unlucky? Yes. A quitter? No, She had always been a fighter, yet on this dark night, as she wandered aimlessly through the streets of Delhi wet all over because of the rain, all she wanted was to run away. Away from her so called life, family and husband.Away from herself.

A mere shadow of herself was Payal. Reduced to no more than ‘Yes, Aakashji... NoAakashji... Oh really Aakashji?’ in public. The bubbly, deeply thinking, all-wise girl was gone. In her place was a woman, ever smiling yet a stranger to real happiness. As she wandered through her home, in search of her little sister, a flash of lightning met caught her eye. She wondered if her little sister had lost herself in the rain just as she had lost herself in the storm of life.

Dreams had been her anchor from Kalpana’s childhood yet her whole life could be described as nothing short of a night mare. Everyone she had craved for in her life had left her alone. Her mother had left her to shower her attention upon another child, her lover had left her to shower his attention on his so called revenge plan and now her father whom she considered her only family had left her. As she wandered through the rains hoping to find a place to stay, she only wished she could wake up and find that it was all just a terrible nightmare.

Anjali’s life had always been a challenge. Her limp legs had never allowed her to do things other people would find easy to do, yet she had always been happy. She had blossomed under the tender love and care of her parents and after they had gone her brother and her grandmother. Her life had been as easy as a carefree bird until the day she had been caught. Caught by a cruel man and had her wings clipped off. Her face had lost her charming smile and her body had started to fail her. Day after day her mind grew heavy and she knew she had become a burden to those who loved her. As her hands wandered on the old photograph of her, she knew in her mind that the free bird could never fly again.
