Part 5
When he came with an appointment letter in his hand into his cabin that morning, Raman didn't know how to react, he hated his presence, and matter of factly he didn't recognized him either just like Ishita, but that didn't mattered, all he thought about was Ishita, he didn't know if they were still together, he was in turmoil, or rather in anxiety of him being in this office, near her, infront of him. Though there was nothing that was in his hands but still this just felt the worst, like nothing could be worse!
All he could do was to sign the letter and accept him in his company, after all it was not he who had the power over destiny, but for a moment, too good to be true, he thought that this time he wouldn't be at the losing end. May be it was just too much to wish for. It might have been that she only had asked him to apply in his company so they could work together? His mind grunted, while his heart argued otherwise. His heart was wishing the impossible, while he didn't know how to curb his fears and look beyond it unaffected.
It was then, he, Subhramanium, that he asked him to call him Subbu instead, was appointed as the head of accounts department. Raman called Mr. Seth to help the new Mr. Subbu to be shown his place, his cabin, while as Mr. Subbu left, Raman sighed and relaxed in his plush leather chair, and after miniscule his eyes darted past the glass paned cabin to the lobby, he saw her coming, her eyes shining with unusual happiness, making his clench with the fact, her lips adorning a beautiful smile, filling him with anguish and jealousy, and then he suddenly noticed her halt infront of the Bone-head... her eyes widened, not in happy surprise like what he thought, rather they were filled with shock, making him astonished, he saw her demeanor change, her smile long gone, he could feel her tremble in agony, like someone just showed her the most scary sight!
He stood up immediately leaving behind all the vile thoughts and hurried towards her, Something was not right, his heart told him. He came up and was about to divert her and say something but surprising him, she smiled looking at him, not once looking at the vile man standing there with a nasty smirk upon his face and greeted, normally, or rather more jovial than anytime before. While all he could do was nod, he didn't know what to think of it, he was too surprised by her instance, her reaction, what was it that she was hiding? May be there was something that had changed in her life that he didn't know about, weren't they two doves of St. Xavier's, the most famous! He thought confused, as he say her walking away.
And then he decided that he would rather wait for her to share; maybe someday she would share that comfort zone with him.

It were only half an hour when she felt someone standing beside her, bit too close for her likes, as she poured two cups of coffee one for her and one for her boss, and then she turned and looked at him startled and immediately diverted her gaze and rather reached for the sugar cubes only to be held by hand by him. She looked at him with disgust and snatched her hand back as it burnt in his touch. And ignoring him completely she carried on with what she was doing, and added two cubes in each mugs and turned to leave when she heard his mock filled vicious voice, "Running away, this is what suits you Ishita Iyer..." and then she walked off while he said out loud, "My wife is pregnant, its only three months!" and she could hear his smirk in it as she came out of the ear shot, her eyes filled with pain, her heart clenched at the recollection, and her body trembled with tremors of thinking her love of life sharing that life with someone else that she had always dreamed for herself.
"Are you okay?" she heard a warm voice, she wiped off the tears immediately and looked up only to find her solace, her forehead was marred with concern and his eyes shown with care.
"I am okay Mihir. It's just..." she couldn't complete, as he cut her,
"I know, I know, I saw him too, and only this morning I came to know about him being here, Mihika called me and told me that, Bala Anna had called me too, I didn't know otherwise I would have told you..." Mihir kept on blabbing.
"It's okay... I am fine now. I think I was in shock, but now I am seriously fine..." and then she looked at him, still feeling miserable for not being able to help her, she on other hand smiled and said exasperatingly, "Mihir but I don't think I would be fine for a long time now..." with that she looked at him tensed and continued, "You know na my boss is very particular about his coffee and if it got cold before reaching him then... I would be fired, and on serious note we don't want that... now do we?" and with that she smiled at him broadly, a smile that reached her eyes.
While that glint in her eyes at Raman's mention didn't went unnoticed by Mihir. Like what Mihika had told, was not the scene there, rather it was totally opposite, this Ishita was calm and composed and infact she was smiling like Subbu was non-existent!
He didn't know what to make of it, as he saw her enter in his bhai's cabin with the coffee, he was happy that Ishita was okay but also surprised at the way she was taking such a serious matter, or maybe, he thought, it wasn't that serious for her anymore... and then he turned only to see him standing there near the coffee machine, much affected, his palms tightly fisted and his eyes bubbling with anger. Maybe, he though chuckling, the tables have turned, and now he must inform Mihika, and then his eyes darted in the direction the scumbag was looking, watching her with him, it was such a pleasing sight, he thought, and then shook his head thinking, perhaps little delay would be okay, and with that he turned away and left towards his cabin.

He was still busy in Mehra's presentation and also in the incident that happened in the morning that had left him in confusion, he didn't know what to do... where to go and ask for answers, this anticipation was just too much, he was frustrated, he was not able to concentrate on the work in hand and on other that this Ishita-Subbu Angle was making it more difficult for him, why that bloody Subbu had to come here, he thought anguished.
He just wanted her, her presence alone, but now seeing a competitor, or rather the main character of her life was now in his office, and now they both were working infront of him, making him more jealous then he ever was!
It was then that she entered; her fresh floral fragrance surrounded the whole room, making him involuntarily to close his eyes, as if letting it inside, and trying to get it into his system.
While she came near him and slowly kept the coffee mug infront of him and softly said, "Sir... Coffee." And then took the spare files from the table and started to arrange then in shelf beside his chair, while little he could do was to admire her, her soft features, her lips that were now curved in content smile, her eyes that were fixed on work in hand and even that little line on her forehead that showed how much concentrated she was now doing the work.
It was then, even before he could check himself he asked, "Ishita... So you Mr. Subhramanium?" and immediately regretted, as he saw her hand stop the mid way and then trembled a little as she turned towards him wide-eyed.
And then to ease the situation he said, "I mean he is our new head of accounts department, I saw you two in the morning so... um... So do you... know him, by any chance?" he completed, hesitantly.
While she looked down towards her knotted fingers and then looked at him, taking a deep breath and started, "Yes I know Subbu, he was my classmate in college..." and then turned back to her work, not saying anything further.
While he just nodded at that, and continued looking at her, while she arranged his cabin, he didn't wanted to be any more hopeful, but then as he saw things, there seemed nothing between them, he smiled in relief and turned towards his presentation finally finding the concentration that he needed.

It was almost lunch when he saw the douche-bag approaching the mystery queen, and so he did what he felt right, just before the man, increasing his pace by a bit he stood beside her, making her surprise as she looked up at him and then back at the douche and turned away ignoring the unimportant and standing in recognition of the much superior, "Sir?" she asked confused.
"Uhh... I was... actually I was eating alone, so thought, I wanted to discuss something, can you come to my cabin..." he said, or rather blabbed.
It was difficult on her part to see her ideal stuttering, the always composed and stoic and strict man stuttering infront of a mere employee! She looked at his retreating back as he entered his cabin and followed him, completely ignoring the man who was once her love of life.
"Sir?" she said as she stood infront of him with writing-pad and pen in her hand, while watching him sitting infront of perfectly laid table.
"Miss Iyer, If you don't mind, can we have lunch for now, and after that I would dictate you a mail, you'd just have to type it, okay..." he said.
"Okay sir..." and she turned to leave, when he called,
"Ishita... have lunch with me... I don't like eating alone... please, Mihir is also not there today..." he requested, while she looked at him surprised and looked at the table and then slowly sat down, and took one plate from him and again stood up and first she neatly served him and then herself and settled and they started to eat.
While Ishita looked at him with a smile, and then asked little hesitantly, "How's Ruhi, Sir?"
While Raman looked at him surprised, and then answered, smiling fondly, "She is fine... she was also asking about you, whole morning..."
While Ishita looked at this towards him, surprised and smiled and said, "She is an angel... her mother must be very pretty..." and then both her hands flew over her mouth, her eyes widened in fear as she dared to look at him, while surprising her he kept on eating and smiled and said, "Yes she was one beautiful lady... and very loving too. Only that Ruhi couldn't get more of her..."
"What happened to her?" she asked, smacking herself for being too curious.
"Accident. She died in an accident about four years ago..." he said, as he sipped the water, between a morsel.
She asked nothing more, and rest of the lunch went in silence.

It was almost evening when the office became almost empty, and she was about to leave, when he walked up to her, as she stood in lobby waiting for the elevator.
"How much are you going to run away from reality?" he said, looking at her smugly, "I know that you still love me, I can see that Ishu..." he said, while she cringed hearing her name used as an endearment by her closed ones only.
"You don't need to run away you know... I mean we can still be together, atleast in one way", and looked at her up and gown dirtily and continued, "...and best part is no one would ever know about it... you know because of your condition..." and smirked.
Tears clouded her eyes, but she looked at him nonetheless with disdain and said, "You know what Subbu, you disgust me, your existence, the fact that I was ever in love with a man like you truly disgusts me, and I am happy that we didn't married..." she couldn't complete when he cut in,
"You think I would have even thought about marrying you Ishita Iyer? Girls like you are not for marriage, probably you should always give up on this notion", he said mockingly and then continued "but yeah to satisfy your needs, remember me, I have always wanted you... in every way..." and with that giving her a whole up down look of lust, he walked off stealthily.
While she still stood there, not knowing how to take his words, she knew she shouldn't be bothered about it, but she was... was he right? Girls like her could never have a life of their dream? Is marriage such an impossible notion for them?" the thought filled flooded her mind, as she left for the day.
