17: He Was Her Man (The epilogue)

"Randhir... Randhir," Sanyukta whispered, coming out of the bathroom, the pregnancy test in her shaking hands.

Randhir got up from their bed and held her shoulders. He didn't have to ask her to know that it was positive. Seeing her nod, he smiled widely and picked her up, twirling her around before setting her down.

"You're a mother!" he expressed happily.

She hugged him tightly and he wrapped his arms around her too, rubbing her back gently.

"I can't believe this Randhir," she said, "It feels so different. I'm carrying a baby... our baby."

She removed her head from his chest, stood up on her tiptoes and kissed him on the lips. "I love you so much Randhir."

He swooped down and picked her up in his arms in one single movement.

"What are you doing?" she asked, giggling.

"I'm not even going to let you walk now... not for the rest of your pregnancy!" he told her.

"Randhiiir," she said giggling, "Put me down!"

He sat on the bed and placed her on his lap.

"You're going to get heavy Sanyukta, let me carry you while I can," he told her with a wink.

She hit his chest hard. "You're so mean Randhir! Here you're going to be a father and you're more worried about how heavy I'll be!"

Randhir held her against him more tightly.

"Sanyuktaaa," he whined, "Why do you hit me?"

He placed his hand on her belly and smiled at her, unable to express enough happiness for having both his wife and soon to be child with him today.

"Because I have the right to do whatever I please with you," she told him with a smile. "I own you."

"Oh really?" he asked, smirking naughtily.

"Shut up Randhir! You only think of one thing without shame."

"You're right... only you baby," he told her, laughing.

She hit his chest playfully again.

"Who're you calling baby?"

"That's for you to figure out," he said with a wink, stroking her belly gently.

He brought his hand up to her cheek and kissed her lips. She reciprocated more than enthusiastically.

"I love you Randhir," she said against his lips. "I wish you knew how much."

He pulled away from her and looked into her eyes.

"I know how much Sanyukta. I love you just as much," he replied, kissing her on the cheek.

"I know," she whispered. "You loved me when I didn't even realize how important it was for me to have you in my life."

He kissed her nose and she leaned closer to him.

He was so happy to have her in his arms. Every morning when they would wake up together, he would feel blessed to have another day with Sanyukta. He would silently convey a thank you to the universe that she was happy with him, that he could see her smile and hear her laughter every day. When they fought, he would inwardly smile, because he would get to see her fighting spirit, her best quality, and she would smile with him. Their fights didn't last long because they had already experienced what being far from each other had done to them.

Now they were starting their own family together and Randhir couldn't imagine his life being in a more blissful state - he was grateful for everything he had.

"So we'll have a son," Sanyukta finally said, smiling into Randhir's neck.

"Then I'll have to compete with him for your attention," Randhir replied with a smile. "And I'll have to remind you of how happy you were when I was your man."

She slapped his chest playfully again.

"You'll have to remind your son that you are my man," she said, giggling. "And he is my little boy."

"Our little boy," he corrected. "Don't be so excited to turn me into a stranger. I'm not going anywhere."

"Oh yeah?" she asked, raising her eyebrows and pushing him on the bed, her body falling on top of him. "Sorry Mr. Randhir Singh Shekhawat, I do not know you."

He held her tightly against him and smiled as she leaned down to kiss him.

"Mrs. Sanyukta Randhir Singh Shekhawat, you're crossing your limits now... you have a husband remember?" he asked her as she pressed her lips on his.

"You see Randhir Singh Shekhawat, I love my husband a lot," she whispered into his mouth.

"Oh yeah? I love my wife too," he said haughtily. "She's having my baby."

"Strange... I'm having my husband's baby too."

Then they both started to giggle.

Life was beautiful, it truly was - dark times turned into bright ones, hard times just increased the intensity of their love, and all the regrets for wasting time turned into excitement for the times to come. Randhir and Sanyukta were enjoying life and their love to the fullest.

The feeling of having the one he loved more than anything else in the world in his arms, was a feeling that would stay with him for the rest of eternity.

"You were, are, and will always be my one and only," Sanyukta whispered to him, before she closed her eyes and relaxed on top of him. "Our son is going to be proof of that."

"I love both of you so much," he responded, kissing the top of her head, and closing his eyes too, allowing himself to experience holding Sanyukta in his arms again.

Bliss was defined for him the day he fell in love with Sanyukta, and the day he became her man, his happiness had no bounds, life as he saw it was different, because he was the man he always wanted her to have - the man that Sanyukta needed in her life, the one whose characteristics complemented each and every personality trait of hers, the one that would keep her smiling through tough times and good ones.

He was her man. She was his lady. And they both functioned as one unit, together, for the rest of their lives.
