Chapter 8
8: Somebody That I Used To Know
As soon as he pulled up into a parking space at the hall where the reunion party was being held, he glanced at Sanyukta from the corner of his eyes.
She looked beautiful - the red dress fit perfectly on her body and brightened her face. Her makeup was simple and she had covered her dark circles quite well. She had a smokey eye look and was wearing a flattering neutral lip color. Randhir had a hard time taking his eyes off her.
Sanyukta was fidgeting, her hands shaking nervously. Randhir turned off the engine and held her hand comfortingly. She looked at him with surprise. He let go of her hand immediately. "Uh, stay here."
He got out of the car and walked over to the passenger side, holding the door open for her. He held his hand out for her to take. She looked down at his hand, back up at him, and then back down at his hand. Finally giving in, she held his hand to catch her balance as she exited the car.
He closed the door behind her and they both walked inside, Randhir still holding her hand. He didn't want her to have an emotional breakdown right outside the reunion party.
Once inside, his eyes searched for Sanyukta's ex-boyfriend Parth Kashyap. But he was nowhere to be seen. He could feel Sanyukta tense up beside him. Still holding her hand, he lead her inside. Spotting Jiggy, Kaustuki and Yoyo together, Randhir lead her to the trio before letting go of her hand.
He wanted her to open up and socialize again. As the trio greeted them, Sanyukta smiled formally - a forced smile that didn't quite reach her eyes.
Music was blaring in the background and Jiggy took Kaustuki to the dance floor. Randhir turned to Sanyukta, but her dead eyes were set on the door. Randhir followed her gaze and saw Parth. Parth Kashyap's hand was entwined in Vidhushi's.
Vidhushi? Randhir wondered in amazement. Parth, you fool. You left Sanyukta for Vidhushi?
Glancing at Parth with one eye, Randhir turned back to Sanyukta and grabbed her hand. "Come on, let's dance."
She didn't budge, but Randhir pulled her on to the dance floor. Today he was going to make Sanyukta react.
