Chapter 3 *Last*
Raavi stepped out of her cruiser, and looked at her watch. The team would be reaching anytime now. The city was alive with the usual hustle and bustle, but today, her focus was razor-sharp. Rumors of a significant heist had been buzzing like a hornet’s nest, and she was determined to catch the culprits before they struck again.
She scanned the surroundings of the old downtown area where the heist was rumored to take place—thanks to the tips that had poured in over the last few days. A decrepit warehouse lay ahead, its walls crumbling, yet it held tales of the city’s forgotten past. The informant's word had led her here, and Raavi was not one to take chances.
As she approached the entrance, she spotted a familiar face in the shadows. It was Shiva. Their eyes met, and Raavi's heart skipped a beat. Was he involved in the heist?
“Raavi!” Shiva called out, his voice laced with surprise. “Thank God you're here!”
“Cut the small talk, Shiva,” she snapped, her hand hovering near her holster. “What are you doing here? Don’t think I’ve forgotten who you are.”
“I’m not that man anymore,” he replied, raising his hands defensively but without a trace of fear. “I’ve changed my life. I’m just here for work, nothing else.”
“Yeah, sure,” Raavi replied, her eyes narrowing. “And I’m supposed to believe you just happen to be here in the middle of a heist?”
Shiva sighed, the weight of Raavi’s suspicion heavy in the air.
“I heard rumors too, about a crew planning something big. I wasn’t going to get involved, but I came down here to warn anyone who would listen. I swear I’m not part of this!”
The scent of desperation wafted from his words, but Raavi couldn’t shake off the feeling of betrayal festering in her gut. She had seen too many people turn back to their old ways when temptation lurked close enough.
“Why should I trust you?” she challenged, her voice steady.
“Because I’m here for the same reason you are,” he implored, stepping closer. “To stop it before it happens.”
Raavi felt her resolve weaken. There was an authenticity in his eyes, something she hadn’t expected to see. Her instincts strained against the vulnerability he exposed, like an emotional tug-of-war.
“If you’re lying…”
“I’m not,” he insisted, locking eyes with her, an earnestness in his gaze that made her heart race against her better judgment. "I have left all of that behind for you."
Her heart raced.
"You left all of that behind? Just for me?"
"I left it behind because I realized what's really important," he said softly, his intense gaze never wavering. "And that’s you. I can’t keep living a lie with you, Raavi. I’m not the same man who steals in the dead of night anymore. You... you've changed everything for me."
The raw honesty in his voice cracked through her defenses. Raavi looked deeply into his eyes, searching for any trace of deception, but all she found was sincerity.
"But you’re still a thief. A part of you will always be that."
"And a part of me will always be drawn to you," he confessed, his voice steady yet tinged with vulnerability. “I can't lie to you, not anymore. I’ve tried. But you see right through me.”
"Just like you see right through me," she admitted, a warmth blooming in her chest. Her fingers itched to reach out, to bridge the distance between them, but uncertainty lingered. “What are we doing, Shiva?”
He took her hands in his, their fingers intertwining effortlessly.
"Maybe we're doing what we’re meant to do. Maybe we're not just a thief and a cop; maybe we’re soulmates."
A beat passed, and she felt it—a surge of energy, a connection that screamed they were meant to be.
“You really believe that?” she asked quietly, searching his eyes for affirmation.
"I do," he said, a fierce determination flashing across his face. “And I know we can’t lie to each other. You’ve known now for a long time. Every time our paths crossed, it was the universe nudging us closer to this moment.”
Raavi squeezed his hands, a smile breaking through her guarded exterior.
Shiva leaned in, their foreheads touching, breaths mingling in the cool night air.
“Let me help you. I choose you, Raavi. Will you choose me, too?”
A comfort washed over her, the tension of her duty held at bay by the reality of their connection. With her heart laying bare, she whispered, “Always.”
"But you shouldn't have come here. It could be dangerous." She said cupping his face.
"Let me help you."
Hours passed in a haze as they worked together, piecing together the puzzle leading to the heist. As they collaborated, she began to believe in the goodness he claimed to have found.
With time running out, they arrived at an abandoned lot where the heist was set to occur. As they crouched behind a dumpster, suddenly the air around them shifted, and they felt an unsettling presence.
As they turned, they were shocked to see a group of men with knives. Panic surged through them, and fear gripped their hearts.
Shiva clutched Raavi's arm, his eyes widened.
"What do we do now?” he whispered.
"Stay close to me,” she replied firmly, eyeing the group as they closed in.
Damn! Why isn't her team here yet?
"We have to distract them." Shiva said.
Raavi, sensing the gravity of the situation, nodded slowly.
"Kiss me." She whispered.
"What??" Shiva’s heart raced, not just from fear, but from the thought of kissing her in such a perilous moment.
Before he could register what was happening, Raavi pulled his collar and crashed her lips on his, meeting in a soft but urgent kiss. It was a moment suspended in time — the dangers of the world dissolving into the sweetness of their love. The men, caught off guard by the unexpected display of affection, halted in confusion, glancing at each other with bewildered expressions.
“What the…?” one of them muttered, momentarily forgotten in their quest for valuables.
They heard some sounds and pulled apart to see that they were surrounded by policemen.
Sighing in relief, Shiva pulled Raavi closer. It felt surreal, escaping a life-threatening situation, their hearts still fluttering from the kiss that had seemingly saved them.
____________
"That was the craziest thing I ever done!” Raavi said as she sat beside Shiva in her house.
Shiva chuckled, shaking his head in disbelief.
“I can’t believe that actually worked. Who knew a kiss could be so powerful?”
Raavi smiled. Shiva pulled her close, his heart swelling with affection.
“Do you think I always need to be in a dangerous situation to kiss you?"
"No."
Their lips met gently at first, but the spark that had been simmering between them erupted into something much hotter. Raavi melted into the kiss as Shiva’s warm hands cupped her face, tilting her head slightly to deepen their connection. His lips moved against hers with a perfect blend of urgency and tenderness, igniting sensations she hadn’t expected.
Her heart raced as his fingers slid to her waist, pulling her closer, grounding her to him as the world spun away. She found herself kissing him back with an equal fierceness, every ounce of desire pouring into that moment. It felt intoxicating, like they were the only two people in existence.
As they finally pulled back, breathless and wide-eyed, Raavi rested her forehead against Shiva’s, both of them savoring the heat of the moment.
“Wow,” she breathed, her cheeks flushed.
“Yeah, wow,” he echoed, his eyes sparkling.
In that moment, surrounded by the beauty of early evening, they both understood that this was just the beginning of something spectacular.
"I love you, Shiva. You have stolen my heart."
"I love you Raavi. You have imprisoned me in your love."
He leaned down, capturing her lips again, this time with a sweetness that spoke of relief and the promise of many more stolen moments together.
