Chapter 28
The holi function got over and everybody departed to their rooms with heavy heads. The afternoon was never so silent. Kaustuki and Sanyukta were also sleeping. Vidhushi woke up after some three hours. She recollected what an awesome holi party she had. She then recollected Sanyukta's behaviour in the party. She was sure that something was fishy. She looked at the two girls who were in deep slumber. Sanyukta's phone was on the table and slowly picked it up. She thought, "yeh kya carnaama kar rahi hai, iss ka sabot toh is ke phone mein zaroor hoga." She pressed some buttons on the blackberry. But, there was no display. She tried to switch it off and then switch it on. But, still there was no display. She thought, "lagta iss ka phone pani mein gir kar, kharaab ho gaya hai." She kept it back on the table and proceeded towards her book shelf. There were only books to be seen. A book fell from her hand and Sanyukta woke up from the noise. She rubbed her eyes. Her head was paining as though somebody was hitting it with a hammer. She saw Vidhushi and smiled. She saw Kaustuki and woke her up. They spoke for sometime, when Sanyukta remembered about Vardaan. She quickly picked her phone but, it was no use. She tried hitting her phone with her hands; but still, it was not working.
Sanyukta: "Oh no. Lagta hai mera phone kharaab ho gaya hai."
Vidhushi: "Woh tum paani mein giri thi na, uske vajah se."
Sanyukta was surprised.
Sanyukta: "What main paani mein gir gayi thi? Kab? Kaha?"
Vidhushi and Kaustuki looked at each other in surprise.
Kaustuki: "Sanyukta, tumhe kuch bhi yaad nahi hai?"
Sanyukta: "Nahi yar. Ab bataa bhi do."
They narrated all the antics that Sanyukta did at the function and were laughing too. Sanyukta held her cheeks in astonishment.
Sanyukta: "Sachi? Maine itna pagalpan kiya?"
Vidhushi: "Pataa nahi tum sab ladko mein kise imagine kar rahi thi?"
Vidhushi tried to study carefully Sanyukta's expressions. Sanyukta had no control on her blush.
Kaustuki changed the topic sensing Sanyukta blush.
Kaustuki: "Guys, kal Vardaan Sir ne test rakha hai. Hume padna chahiye."
Sanyukta: "Umm...ha. Main fresh ho kar library jaati hu."
She badly wanted to call Vardaan. She couldn't even recollect his number properly. She asked Kaustuki whether she had his number. Even Kaustuki didn't have his number. She could have asked other students. But, she didn't want anybody to get a single doubt on her. Already, she had created a huge mess in the holi party. She headed off to study.
Vardaan came in her class and was looking for her. He was tensed as he had no clue about her for more than twenty four hours. He saw her giggling with her loser best friend, Randhir'. He once again angrily called out to her, "Ms Agarwal, I think I've made it pretty clear, that if you want to giggle, you may as well do that outside the classroom. Else, I myself will have to throw you out of the classroom. And you, Randhir, are you the new gossip girl in town? Come on, change your position." Randhir looked at him with fear in his eyes. He again yelled at him, "Come on damn it. Just get up from there." Sanyukta was scared and confused. Though, she knew that he was very strict when it came to discipline in his classes. But this was something new, she hadn't witnessed at all. His eyes had gone red. She gulped her saliva and dared not to look at him. Her gaze was fixed to the ground. The test started. She was able to solve four questions and was stuck at the fifth one. She was trying all permutations and combinations to solve. Vardaan was walking in between the rows when he stood behind Sanyukta, carefully looking at her answer sheet. He came near her bench and snatched her paper. She shivered at this action.
Vardaan: "Look at this. What are you trying to do Ms Agarwal?"
Her voice trembled and she managed to say, "Sir, I..."
Vardaan: "Guys, how many days back have I taught you this chapter."
The class looked at Vardaan.
Vardaan: "This is not some Arts paper. Your first two sums are right. But, look at the third question. You don't even know the formula for Economic Value of a Company? Terminal Value? And Peg ratio? Class, if I am not wrong, I've taught you all these concepts in the very first lecture. And look at the condition! Ms Agarwal, I think your focus has now been shifted on something else."
He just took her answer sheet away.
Sanyukta: "I have more to write."
Vardaan: "Really? OK, tell me the formulae I've just now asked you. At least one of them."
She was blank.
Vardaan: "See, this is what I am telling you guys. If you all don't know the basic formulae, don't attend my classes. You may please leave my class miss. And if anybody else, wants to join her, he or she may as well please."
Sanuykta was not able to follow anything. She had tears upto the brim of her eyes. She took her bag and was out of the classroom. She ran to the washroom and started crying.
Sanyukta: (Thinking) "What the hell does he think of himself? What was that? Why did he insult me? I could see anger and rage in his eyes? Was he angry with me? But, why?"
She washed her face and was in the library looking for the answers for the questions he had put to her. His lecture got over and she went to her class. Her eyes were swollen and everybody could make out that she had cried. Kaustuki pat on her shoulders asking her if she was alright. She nodded her head. Randhir came to them.
Randhir: "What's wrong with Sir? Sanyukta and I were chatting before his lecture commenced. I don't understand how did that affect him so much? And what a showdown? It was not all needed. There are students who were not able to solve even a single sum. He didn't say anything to them. Bloody attention seeking loser prof!"
Sanyukta got furious hearing that. She screamed.
Sanyukta: "How dare you Randhir?"
Kaustuki instantly held her hand back, reminding her to not say anything too much.
Sanyukta: "He is just a professor and he is doing his duty, for which he's been paid for. It will obviously affect him if his students don't even know the stuff he had taught in the first lecture. I am a student. And I am clearly not doing my work properly. I think I need to focus my attention to studies. May be that showdown was necessary, for me to get a reality check. "
Everybody stared at her. Kaustuki added that she agrees with her. Her classmates did not sense anything fishy, except Vidhushi of course.
She didn't meet him the whole day and neither she wanted to meet him. She was just too sad to even question him anything. It was 8 PM and she was still in the library studying his subject. She looked at the wall clock and decided to go to her room and study. She issued the necessary books and headed off to her room.
She got pulled by somebody on the way. Needless to say, it was Vardaan. He pulled her inside the lab and latched it. He held her by her waist and angrily looked at her. Sanyukta was equally in fury. She tried to free herself. He had held her real tight.
Sanyukta: "Leave me. Just leave me. I am warning you."
She said looking straight into his eyes and raising an index finger towards him.
Vardaan: "What the hell were you doing with that loser? You find him interesting, huhh?"
"Oh, so this is the reason", she thought. "This time, I won't budge", she thought. "I don't find it necessary to answer you. You are not my father. And for your information, even my father has not questioned me in this way", she replied back. He gripped her waist tighter and she winced in pain when she was pushed closer to him. "Ouch, that hurt", she cried. He could see anger in her eyes. There was something else too. "Did she cry?", he thought.
Vardaan: "That's not my answer. Don't you dare back answer me! Yesterday, after the holi party, I tried to contact you so many times, but you might be very busy with Randhir. So didn't find time to call me back. I did not sleep even for a single minute last night thinking about you. I come running to the classroom, just to get one glimpse of you and I see that you are having a good time with Randhir. Whenever you are with Randhir, why do you forget everything else? Why the hell do you forget me?"
Sanyukta was dumbfounded listening to him. She couldn't believe that he just did not trust her at all. Sanyukta freed herself.
Sanyukta: "I told you that I am not answerable to you. You think whatever you want to think. I don't care. Just because, you are possessive, I can't break my friendship with him. I am now tired of telling you that he's just another friend, like Kaustuki. Even you talk to your to your female colleagues. Have you ever seen me getting jealous about it? I thought, you are mature enough to understand? But, no, you are behaving just like a teenage boy."
She was heart broken. Tears fell from her eyes.
Sanyukta: "Listen to me. You have to take a call. You just can't assure me that you love me so much, and on the other hand, not trust me at all. Till then, don't even try to talk to me."
She felt as if she's been hit by a sword. She choked while saying these words. She wiped her tears and proceeded towards the door. He pulled her from her behind. Her dupatta fell from her shoulder. He held her flat belly and kissed the nape of her neck from behind. He turned her around. Sanyukta smiled thinking that he would now apologize to her. He crushed her against his chest and questioned her.
Vardaan: "So, he has become so important to you? You don't mind breaking up with me too, for him."
Sanyukta looked at him stunned. She said, "you are impossible!" She was a lioness now, trying to free herself from his clutches. She hit his chest and he pulled her closer to lock his lips with her.
Sanyukta: "Don't you dare do that! Else, I will shout."
That provocation was enough for him. He immediately locked his manly hungry lips with her soft, tender ones. She tried to scream, but all she could manage was, "ummpp, ummppp!" He started licking and sucking them. She started moving back, trying to free herself. But, he had held her tight. She collided with a wall. Vardaan lifted her one leg up and was grinding himself on her. She scratched him with all her might. But, hell she had cut her nails yesterday itself; after the colours of holi were visible on her nails. She cursed herself for cutting her nails. She started hitting his chest. But, her strength was nothing compared to Vardaan's. She just sealed her lips tight. That was her only weapon. Even she didn't knew how long will she be able to do that. He wanted more. His mind constantly played the image of Randhir and Sanyukta laughing together and hitting hi-fives. He felt as if some wire inside his head had been short-circuited, a very irresistible urge to commit something regrettable. His tongue thrust on her lips, forcing her to open it. She did not budge at all. Nor did she stop struggling. He bit her lips hard and she was not able to take it. She screamed, but she was again made to shut. Blood started oozing from her lips. It was painful for her. She tried to move her head back. He clutched her head and her hair from the back, furiously pulling it. He threw his tongue into her mouth. She had rolled her tongue deep inside till the limit the human anatomy permits. But, she was unsuccessful. He sucked her tongue and his devilish mind was still playing those images; Randhir lifting her up by her waist at the holi function. He got infuriated and pinched her waist. It hurt her the most. He raised her one leg up and grinded his body more into hers. The intensity by which he was sucking onto her tongue was in proportion to the intensity by which he was grinding her. He bit her lips in all angles. Sanyukta was about to collapse when she felt something hard hitting her a lil below her stomach. She shot open her eyes comprehending everything and pushed him with all her might. But, she forgot that there was just no escape. She tried to kick him with her other leg, but he stood on her other leg. She started talking to herself sarcastically in her mind, "Wow, my first s*x, with my boyfriend, who is...who is...who is trying to rape me!" She started crying thinking this. She did not have any energy left in her to struggle. He felt something wet on his cheeks. It took him a while to register that she was crying. Whatever, tricks or games his devilish mind plays with him, but whenever he witnesses her in pain, his heart always directs him in the right direction. He realized what he has been doing. He left her at that instant and got away from her. She just closed her eyes still crying, unable to meet his eyes. She felt her entire body go numb. Slowly she tried to cover herself with the help of her bare hands. But even that was not needed now. She felt that her most precious and private moments had been completely violated; by none other than, the man whom she loved the most. She had no strength to stand. Slowly, she sat on the floor, resting her back on the wall and still crying. She folded her legs at her knees towards her, held them with her hands and was crying like a baby. He took some two to three steps towards her and she screamed, "Just leave! For god's sake, just leave!" She couldn't find solace even in his presence now. Tears fell from his eyes as well. He knew, he had let her down, in the most inhuman way possible. Infuriated with himself, he left from there.
