Trying Times.
"So you're challenging me?" Randhir frenzied.
"I'm not challenging you. You yourself know it as well. Being on a date is meant for boys who are sweet in nature. And trust me someone like you? Can NEVER, I repeat NEVER be on a date" she said with ease.
Randhir's heart fell. "Okay. So here's what. You and I? Let us forget we're enemies" Randhir wanted to seem reluctant but hell, who was he kidding? Anticipation built within him with every passing every second.
"Come on a date with me", he said. Finally.
And Sanyukta couldn't speak. Her brain that is otherwise capable of solving the toughest of sums suddenly betrayed her. Her eyes widened and she tried her best to avoid her jaw from dropping.
"Pehle tha main tanha,
Main tha awara lamha,
Abb tham gayi tujhpe duniya meri,
tham gaye nazare"
"Really Randhir? Really?" Sanyukta faked a laugh.
Randhir couldn't make out. He hadn't expected such a reaction. Well, he was still not able to decipher out her reaction. What is she trying to do?
"Randhir! Remember what I had said? Even if you are the last man left on this earth, I would not go out with you. Never, Randhir!" her eyes darted at him.
Randhir cringed his forehead. He called himself names in his mind. What did he think? She'll go out with him? What if she asks him to give one good reason why she should? What would he say? What had he just done? What would happen to his bubble reputation now?
"I'm sure you wouldn't have refused if I were Parth!" Randhir spoke to her retreating figure. He tried to keep the fury on but damn, he had never been so poignant before. He hoped it was not showing.
"If you were Parth?" Sanyukta stopped to speak. "That doesn't happen. You can never be even half of what Parth is", without turning back, she tried her best to remain stern. "And," she continued."Why not? I'd have definitely gone out with Parth!" she spoke before she stormed out of the scene.
Randhir's eyes brimmed with tears. Hope, hope, hope! Hoping is fine. Just fine, until expectations step in.
Randhir went back to his dorm and climbed into his bed. He was too broken and enervated to punch his punching back. Vardhan sir was right. He is finished. Wrecked, washed up, lost and completely out of the frame.
Delhi summers, I tell you. The heat made him sweat like never before, but he made sure not to let down his blanket. After all, what would it look like to his roommates if they saw him cry? He is Randhir. He doesn't cry. At least not in front of people who have already judged him and taken him to be someone who is as ruthless as the word could get.
She stood in front of the window staring at the moon. Serene as it always is. She knew what she had done. But was there a choice?
"Why not? I'd have definitely gone out with Parth!" - Because I don't have to fear falling for him if I go out with him. But with you, I can tell I would. I would fall for you and that would destroy me. I will be the one falling for you and for you this is going to be just another petty challenge of your life.
" You can never be even half of what Parth is"- Because you are one of a kind, Randhir. You're the exact amount of bitterness I have been missing; the endeavoured bitterness that can never be reinstated by some nonchalant sweetness.
Your reaction
