Part 3

New Journey

She grasped the knob of door tightly and had taken a shaky breath stabling her composure before slipping out the washroom. Though she was trying hard to appear confident and less nervous but inside her heart she knew how much it was difficult for her to prepare herself for whatever was coming in her way after all she was going to share a bed with her husband'she was going to spent the first night under the same roof with her husband who wasn't less than a stranger for her.She had sucked in a sharp breath tying the straps of her night gown titling her head to give him a look who was totally unaware of her presence typing something on laptop and his eye lids were fixed at the screen, he was engrossed in work or pretending to ignore her presence she didn't know? But it irritated her to see him acting like an arrogant, rude person. He didn't even have bothered to look at her side when slowly taking long strides she approached the bed and sank down at the edge clutching her fingers in her hands tightly.

Arnav had felt the movement on the bed as mattress pressed he knew she had been joined him on the bed but he couldn't have courage to tilted his neck and gave look to her.

She had let to fell her hands down to her sides when he had finally thought to give look to her feeling an awkward silence in the room, he closed the lid of the laptop and keeping it aside turned his gaze to look at her.

She had felt her heart leap in her chest to feel his gaze and despite all the preparation she'd done to appear calm and strong she felt nervous and had sucked in a breath.

"Hmm" he had cleaned his throat before parting his lips to face this awkward condition he could see the lines of uneasiness in her face though she was trying hard to cover it with the taut mask of confidence but she was a girl and he could've sensed her awkwardness to share a room with him'surely he was her husband, but how could he forget that he was like a stranger to her and it wasn't easy for her to trust him.

"Khushi'if you feel hesitant---to share room with me or share bed with me you can tell me'I won't mind to shift into another room"

She had heard the expected words from him and somewhere in her heart had taken a long leap before she gasped to stable her breath and then looked up straight to meet with his gaze and in those dark eyes she'd seen the hesitation as she knew why he was saying all this.

"I think we are mature enough to prepare ourselves for every situation'I know what marriage means and what right as a husband you have ---" She had taken a pause trying to recollect her nervous not missing the amusing look on his face.

"As I said earlier I'll perform all my duties as a wife'I won't forget my duties as a wife neither I want you to think ever that I may behave like a teenage girl'I've been saying yes to this marriage because I had been preparing myself for my future life'I don't fear anything"

Her painted lips had slightly twitched into a sarcastic smile as she had seen a flicker of amusement in his eyes she gasped realizing the boldness of her speech but it was necessary to clear she wasn't a coward like a weak woman who would beg for his understanding.

"So you haven't any problem sharing a bed with me?"

He had inquired again with the slight twitch of his lips in a slight amusing smile which didn't reach his cold, weighing eyes.

"No"

She replied firmly though her voice had shaken slightly with the fear what if he announced to use his right on the very first night of their marriage? And he had turned his gaze in other side pretending to keep his watch on the side table As if to give her time to compose herself.

"It's good for us to accept the new change in our lives"

He switched off the lamp and pulled the pillow she gasped realizing it was the end of their conversation. He didn't want to argue or wanted to demand his rights but he was happy the way life was taking turns with its own, letting her choose for what she wants.

He hadn't bothered to look at her after that even when he felt she had shifted her weight completely on the bed and dropped her head back on the pillow he had heard the soft sound of her breath and felt her scent as she laid on her side'closed to him'and he consciously had squeezed himself didn't want her to make uncomfortable.

Khushi's teeth had chattered against the pillow not because of the cold but the nervousness, strange comfortless sharing bed with the man who was now her husband. She had closed her eyes letting the tears to spill and soak into the pillow under her cheek. She didn't know why did she make this decision to marry with the stranger? Why did she let her life take this new turn but now she knew it wasn't an easy way.

Arnav gasped realizing her soft, deep breath she was in deep sleep, maybe be she was very tired and exhausted he had thought giving her a brief look although, he was facing her back but still he could feel her comfortless to see the way she was sleeping at the edge of the bed cuddling to herself.

He had gulped the lump of strange panic and removed his eyes from her. A strange grief captured his heart and he squeezed closed his eyes trying to get some sleep to get escape from the memories of the day'their marriage'a start of new life. But as he tried to get sleep he felt movement beside him and opened his eyes tilting his eyes to her side she was shivering'yes she was shivering'she was sleeping without taking a comforter and the night was cold-- he gulped and then with the swift motion he pulled the comforter and as he spread over her body he felt she didn't shiver again'with the sigh of relief he had again sunk to his side and closed his eyes unaware it was their first step towards their destination.
