I havent mentioned so far about how Roshni was killed in this story...so have that in mind when u read this!

And the update alternates between Sakshi and Arjun's POV and also past and present...I hope u understand the quick transitions!

Part 17A:

He walked away into the house without even a glance at her……

He didn't know why but her response hurt him as well….He too knew that forgetting it and moving on was the best thing to do but it hurt when she said that….and he felt an urge to ask her if it was so easy to forget all that happened but he didn't…..rather he kept silent!

But again, what else was he hoping for from her when he himself had made those intimate moments between them sound like a grave mistake which should have never happened….

Mistake it was for sure but it had changed a lot of things between them which could never get reverted now! They had to get over all their misunderstandings and equal their planes….perhaps time and togetherness would act as a catalyst and do that for them….

It was nearing dawn yet the night looked long…..it was the darkest longest night of their lives…or perhaps the deeply hurt souls felt so!

He was in his room….sleep evaded him completely….He took Roshni's photo in his hands and hugged it to his chest as if to forget all that happened between him and Sakshi……as if to reinforce and instill Roshni's trust and love back in him……

He was trying to forcefully thrash away all those memories of the passionate moments…no they were mere lusty moments…a weak moment when he had slipped away into another woman's arms….though he tried his best, even the thought that Sakshi was the other woman in his life hurt….He thrashed all those and slipped into the memories of Roshni and their life together!

His mind pondered back to the day when he had brought Roshni to this house for the first time like how he had brought Sakshi today…..he hissed and smacked himself at why Sakshi surfaced again in his thoughts….

It was just before he had taken up this place for them to live after their wedding…He wanted to show Roshni the place and get her consent before finalizing it!

She had loved the place…….she had sprinted around suggesting how she would decorate and fill up the entire house and make it a home….She had become an interior designer all of a sudden that day!

The Roshni whom he had first met that late night and who had trembled before him had slowly got replaced by this new Roshni who was deeply truly crazily in love with him……..Yes, he was the first to fall in love with her…It was more of a love at first sight for him but she had taken her time to get to this…..

His direct proposal had stunned her for sure but then she composed herself and took some time to decide what to reply to him…..She didn't turn up for college putting him in dilemma but then he waited because he knew that she liked him as well…

From the responses and expressions she reflected for his talks and gazes, it was sure that she had also taken a liking for him….and yes the cop was right in his prediction………She came back soon and told him that it's a yes from her side too!

He considered himself the happiest luckiest person when he heard her saying, "I love you too Arjun"

It was a quick romance there after…They met daily and their bond of love strengthened swiftly and they both never knew what they had become to each other….

Even a day's separation seemed impossible for both and that's when Arjun decided to take the next step in their relationship…...Arjun met her family and asked her hand for marriage…

Though her family was a bit reluctant to agree mainly because of 2 reasons….one reason was that they were apprehensive because he had moved away from his family…..and the other was because he was a cop and according to a middle class simple family, a cop's life was always in danger and risks lurked around his family always….

Their love was beyond all such beliefs….Roshni believed that death was better than a life without Arjun….She pleaded, protested argued and fought with her family to win their consent!

They got engaged in a simple ceremony….and wedding was fixed at the earliest date too…..

That's when he fixed the deal to a new house…their love paradise as she termed it where they would build up their dream family…..How happy they were…….

But the family's fears came true…it wasn't a wrong belief…it was true to the T! Roshni's death was enough proof to that! It was the standing evidence to that very truth! And he couldn't save their daughter…..he couldn't save their daughter whose hands they had entrusted into his hands!

He sighed as he was forced to think, "kaash maine ROshni se pyar aur shaadi hi nahi kartha…shaayad woh ab bhi kahi zindha hoti!"

A tear rolled down as he clutched Roshni's photo closer to himself……and he voiced, "kyun kiya mujhse pyar Roshni? Kyun?"

But at that time, their love was at a point from where they had no return….they believed that a life together was the ultimate thing they would ever want…..

What better than a fairy tale wedding could be the happy climax to their romantic journey……Little did they know that it was literally the end of a fairy tale and the beginning of a tragedy!

Sakshi's intrusion had caused some disturbance in between but it was nothing when compared to the love they shared…..Atleast to Arjun, it made no difference and he felt that Roshni also had taken it in its casual stride and assumed it as a immature girl's infatuation and attraction to a hero like handsome brave cop!

But now he felt that Sakshi's love for him was not so trivial as he had thought at that time…and he also felt that Roshni realized it before…

In those passionate moments in the evening, he had seen Sakshi's love sparkling in her eyes….She had surrendered to him without a word of resent….Only a person deeply in love could ever do that….No protest….not a want of assurance or commitment…..just plain acceptance of whatever he did….And that had deepened his guilt…..He was just about to take advantage of her vulnerable state of mind or was it her heart that weakened because she loved him so deeply…….

He didn't know or was rather confused if he knew it…….No…he knew it…. He could see it…..he could feel it! She loved him then….she loved him now…she had loved him always!

He snapped out of his thoughts and wondered why he was thinking about Sakshi even when he was thinking about Roshni!

He had started with Roshni's thoughts but ended up in Sakshi…..What was he heading to?

He closed his eyes trying to drain out his wandering thoughts…..

In another room, another heart was weeping as well…..She was in no better state…She knew that her indifference had hurt him somewhere deep…..Hurting him, posing indifference to him was the last thing she ever wanted to do…but she was compelled to do it…..perhaps it was required for their mission…for her dad and for him…….No…all those were silly pretences….she had done it for herself….Another heartbreak was unbearable!

She knew she can never take Roshni's place in his life….….Roshni would never want that to happen either….

"tum plz hum dono ke life se humesha keliye chali jaao Sakshi….dont even look back after that…"

Roshni had shot at her the day Sakshi had met her and asked her apology for having caused troubles in their life…but Roshni was almost hysterical and behaved rudely with her..She hurt Sakshi with her sharp words…..Words which were powerful than a bullet and sharper than a knife…..

Sakshi had pleaded, "Roshni, mujhe patha hai ke maine…."

Roshni snapped her, "mujhe patha hai ke tum kya soch rahi ho aur kya karna chahthi ho……mere Arjun ko mujhse cheen na chahthi ho na? aisa kabhi nahi hoga Sakshi….Arjun sirf mera hai aur humesha mera hi rahega……so for god's sake leave us alone, will you? Agar tumme ab bhi kuch sharam baaki hai toh dur chali jaao….Arjun ke saamne kabhi matth aana…."

Sakshi: but Roshni..main toh bas…

Roshni: [almost screaming] tumne suna nahi maine kya kaha….tum aise nahi maanogi….If you don't promise me that you will keep away from me and Arjun, I will kill myself! Aur usske zimmedhar sirf tum hogi Sakshi…sirf tum!

Sakshi snapped out of the trance…..her words pricked her heart and it bled so much that she could feel it in her eyes……Hot tears rolled down her cheeks making her feel pale and weak than ever!

Yes, Roshni had started feeling insecure after realizing Sakshi's love for Arjun…..Though initially, she had felt that it was just plain attraction, she realized it was much deeper than what met the eyes…..She feared that Sakshi's presence in their life or even the mere casual meeting between Arjun and Sakshi could make her lose Arjun!

But she kept her insecurities and doubts to herself and never once discussed it with Arjun! Arjun wasn't aware that Roshni had such a complex issue with Sakshi's existence near them!

She pretended to Arjun that she was all cool and casual…And also told him that she had talked and made Sakshi realize her mistake!

She even told him that she had invited Sakshi for their wedding and she herself would introduce him to the girl who was playing a love game of hide and seek with him so far….She had laughed a lot and made the entire thing sound like a casual joke to him!

He also was eager to meet the girl….the immature girl needed a SYS session from him, he had thought in his mind back then…….

After their wedding, the first night when they were together in this room…he had casually enquired Roshni about Sakshi's absence in their wedding…Roshni had frowned for the first time hearing Sakshi's name and replied, "Arjun, aaj humaare suhag raat hai…..dont you have better things to ask?"

Arjun had brushed it off aside and replied naughtily, "of course…yes….I have better things to do rather than ask"

Saying that he had leaned onto her and kissed her passionately……..their first kiss was magical and in that magical moment, he had forgotten everything else……He had just melted into her arms and started their wedded life together!

Sakshi wiped her tears….and told to herself, "shaayad main bhi aise hi karthi….jisse pyar karthe hai usse khone ka darr toh sabse bada darr hai….koyi isse bacch nahi saktha…..Roshni ne jo mere saat kiya woh sahi hi tha……."

And even at that point, she had no hard feelings for Roshni….and she had decided to move back to Delhi leaving behind everything here!

She never had the idea of a return but destiny had planned it the other way!

She had read in the papers about a bomb blast in Mumbai that killed many people……

She was in tears and felt shattered when her eyes fell on one name…

"Mrs Roshni Arjun Rawte"

She could swear before anyone that never once she had cursed Roshni or wanted her death so that she could take her place in Arjun's life….Never!

But even then when she knew that Roshni was dead, she felt guilty for no reason….She felt that perhaps it was her dark shadow that snatched her away from Arjun! That very guilt feeling kept her away from Arjun for so long….She had longed to come to him, be with him, support and console him…But she didn't…..

Her closeness with Arjun and her entry into his life would only mean that she was waiting for her chance…but in her deepest of the heart, she knew that it wasn't true……..She had loved him…no she loves him even today but never wanted him lose his love so that she would win his love!

She never wanted that win……..

She had justified reasons for her coming back…her dad…her mission to get justice for him so that he would rest in peace..and she knew that Arjun and ETF were the only safe and trustworthy places for her…..But that was not all…..She had another time bomb mission in her hands……Yes….there was another hidden agenda as well…..And this time, it was Arjun's mission as well!

Sikandar! It was high time Arjun knew about Sikandar!

During her brief stint of her investigative journalism, she had dug out some long pending cases and thats when she came to know about the most dreaded criminal…a criminal who has no face so far….Did he really exist? Or was it just a name? A false mask to hide someone else…..She had leads to many of those questions…..

She had found out that the bomb blast which claimed Roshni's life was actually an attempt to kill Arjun and that revelation hurt her like hell…the very feeling that he could have been killed devastated her...Though it appeared like a normal blast to threaten the government, it wasn't that…

It was a preplanned attempt to kill the most brilliant dynamic officer in the police department ACP Arjun Suryakanth Rawte because they feared that his life means the end of them and their illegal business…..But the plan failed!

Due to some unforeseen reasons or perhaps a luck or ill luck, it was Roshni who got killed….

Sakshi had thought over it atleast a million times if she wanted to tell all this to Arjun…If she said this, he was sure to plunge into it without any forethought….

She knew him well enough and understood that his anger would literally burn down everything..

She knew that the crime racket they would have to deal with was dangerous….most deadliest and nothing less of a death trap from where there was possibly no return!

It would be a big risk to Arjun's life….did she ever want to push him into that circle of death! So far it was a no which came up in her mind but today when she saw the broken man who wept and mourned his wife's death even after so many years, she felt that he had the right to know the truth!

She would have told him all this someday but today, she decided that she would tell him this very soon….

It was a bright Sunday morning and from past few weeks, he had been busy all through the days…Roshni had been behind him to take her out and he relented…….They had planned a shopping, a lunch and a film…..And Arjun had planned a romantic candle light dinner on the beach side restaurant as well…..

But he now wished that he hadn't planned anything at all….They were in a shopping complex when Arjun had got a sudden call…he couldn't hear anything due to the noise inside the shop….So he walked out leaving Roshni to select whatever she wanted….

It was a call from the head quarters about an intelligence report of a possible blast in the city that day…But before he could finish the call, he heard the blasting sound from the direction where he had left Roshni…….

There was chaos and panic everywhere…He ran to the shop which was now on fire……He screamed and tried to venture in only to be pulled and pushed back by some people…………

"ROSHNI……" he screamed as he snapped out from his short nightmarish trance……He had once again seen her death in his nightmare….

For the first time, he felt restless…he felt that he had missed out something….What was that?
